It seems Terran has pretty much figured it out, yet I still see players winning with it in tournaments. It's really easy to counter if they know it's coming. On the maps that you'd want to do it on, good Terrans will expect it. Therefore I can see you losing with it a lot. You have to be tricky if you're doing something like this. Make them think you're doing something else. Or deny their scouting aggressively. You can even throw down a dark shrine in front of the scout to make them think it's DTs and then cancel and Blink allin.

There comes a point where you can only lightly harass because they're turtling too hard, and when it comes to that, just expand and get a robo or forge. There's almost always buildings/units to pick off constantly, just keep them contained by doing that while getting your expo up. Make sure you're getting up chargelot archon or colossi in the meantime, because as soon as their stim and medivacs finish, they're going to push.

Quick Q. PvZ i went FFE into robo first. My opponent stayed on 2 bases until like 7 minute mark with a bunch of speedlings and then went immediately into muta. Once the muta were out I was pinned on 2 bases. He took a 4th behind this and went for mass Hydra. I tried to push out before it was too late but 12 Hydra finished right as I got there and I got wrecked. What should one do against this style of play? Muta/Ling is so mobile and pins me in my base..

Against mutas you need phoenix, what kind of tech were you building? You either have to take a third and play really defensive against muta/ling or hit a two base timing before or as the mutas pop.

(masters) Depends on what exactly he's doing, but you'll need some mixture of Tempests, High Templar, and Immortals. Don't bother making Zealots/Stalkers/Sentries in your main army (you can use Zealot harass at his bases). Use Storm to push back Vikings/Widow Mines and Tempests to hit everything from out of his range.

Is there ever a use for Void Rays when going mech? It seems like if I were P and saw a bunch of tanks, my gut instinct would be to get a stargate before a TC. Or are Void Rays too weak to mines and thors?

I have a friend who only mechs TvP so I have a lot of experience playing against it. You need a few VRs to hold an initial push before they get BOTH vikings and Thors in high enough numbers. As the game progresses you want less emphasis on VR and more on Tempest/Carrier with HT for Storm and Feedback, Oracles for Revelatino, and Observers for detection.

any unit works against certain mech compositions blink stalker immortal (vs reactor heavy openings) charge immortal (vs tech lab openings) stargate w phoenix or templar without storm (vs banshee openings) these will allow for an increadibly strong agression while letting you get high economy --------------- midgame you want to add more robos. templar are too voulnerable and i feel not worth it too much make archons if you really need to - even with a few ghosts a high immortal count will still kill him ( because one ghost costs almost as much as an immortal) colossus can be added or voidray. you try to deny his 4th and fifth. stay away from armor ups ----- lategame . transition into tempest cannon templar with some archons. its about vision and feedbacks and microand denying bases, you will face bc raven tank ghost viking, PF

in the entirety of the midgame, terran has 2 options: either go heavy econ/slowly expand or push with tanks on 2 or 3 bases. if they go econ you won't be able to attack well into him, so it's best to go some form of immortals(if you have robo) into a stargate based army as explained before. If he's going for an attack in the midgame, you should just abuse his immobility. just be on his side of the map and contain him(deny expos) so that if he unseiges to attack then you're going to attack him and he has to return to his base. if he has to leap frog his army to your base, then it's really really slow and you can try to attack his weak points while building up a stargate army. the goal should be to get stargates off at least 3 base imo

The thing is i was pretty much sure that stargate is the onle possible way to counter it, but what makes me doubt that is some pro and semi-pro games i watched (and also lot's of threads) where P don't bother doing anything special vs mech. Adding a 3-4 immortals to the army is the only response and it actually worked! I recently watched a few Elfi's games vs Strelok. I just don't get it: Strelok pushed with Tanks and hellbats from 2 bases on 12:30 and elfi denied it with 3 immortals and few gateway units (including sentries) catching him offguard (unsieged) while Strelok made his way to elfi's base... And this is after a failed DT rush. That seemed so pathetic.. I mean, either strelok is bad or elfi is a god (both of witch i doubt), because i can't believe u can rely on such things (forcefields/opponent mistakes) playing vs MECH terran. Actually i never saw goody's games so i cant say for sure if everyone on prolvl plays PvMech like that, because few times that i actually watched (not many though) from Strelok's pov - protosses seem to do standard builds vs him and win! And i'm always like: WTF?! It just doesn't work for me this way. Ofc i got no exp vs mech and my micro is my weekest side but not to such an extent (i hope) cause mech army LITERALLY CRUSHES my gateway compositions (w or w/o immortals). Mech terrans seem to either push from 2-3 bases with tanks/hellbats/thors and some airsupport or just occupy the whole map and tech to viking/thor/ghost/raven limit. So the only actual response i've thought of was stargate + immortals and it worked (inconsistently). But still it bothers me is it just me or there is a miraculous standard gateway+immortal play that destroyes mech like lot's of ppl out there say? So. You can fight Mech while it's small with your standard PvT army. But when it gets to a large enough size and sieges up, it's pretty much impossible to kill. That's why I don't risk it and just skip ground units altogether against mech. I make some Immortals to tank for my High Templar.. that's about it. Otherwise my army is a few Void Rays, a whole bunch of Tempests, and 1-2 Oracles for revelation. Ocassionally I'll add in some Stalkers with Blink to help fight the Vikings if they get too close. And maybe 1 or 2 Colossus if he is going heavy on widow mines (just to kill them fast as they charge you).

Also to add: if i see an opportunity i'd rather rush for carriers and cut tempest. With a decent meat sheild their DPS output is awesome. + They /rofl on pdd that nullify tempests in late game.
