Hello, I have recently came back form a long hiatus in sc2. I am thinking of making my switch back to protoss right now from zerg.

My question is how strong are protoss right now compared to the other races? Are terrans still the strongest race? How are the matchups for protoss?

Most sensible players will agree that there is not really much difference between the strength of the races. However, the more effort and research you put into your race, relatively to your peer players, the better you will do.

I had a weird PvP today. I went for blink, with my twilight council being delayed about 10-15seconds. He went for 1 gate into stargate and started chronoboosting void rays. Followed it with stalker void ray pressure while expanding, and I simply couldn't break the contain. Even if my build was tighter, I still have no idea how I could have won that game.

Is the best way to handle mutas in mid to late game 3 stargate phoenix + range and eventually getting blink/storm? Sometimes I feel like I have no idea how to counter mass corruptor/muta even if I get a pretty good headstart on phoenix production. It seems like I can never take a 4th or push out while they take the whole map :/. Besides the answer of killing them before they get to a big mass, does anyone have any tips on how to deal with this? I'm guessing I should use my blink stalkers to focus down corruptors when I can while microing phoenixes to specifically attack the mutas?

Unless you're approaching SC2's skill ceiling where diminishing returns in time invested begin to grow exponentially, somewhere in high GM, the strength of a race is pretty irrelevant when you can simply overcome any imbalance by literally just getting better than your average opponent. You'll enjoy this game much more if you pick a race you enjoy. Not to mention, you could pick the OP race of the month, then have it flip and suddenly you're playing the worst race for the next two years.

If you have an observer on or near their army when they push out you shouldn't have trouble defending against drops,
Also where are you keeping your main army, by your third?

It might be.. I used to think 3, now I think 2. Because with 2, you can at least still make blinkstalkers to provide support vs 8+ corruptors, while at the same time having an army that can deal with zerglings & roaches. 2 if your chronoboosting is good, otherwise 3 maybe?
EDIT: if you're already on Blink, that is. Don't get reactive blink generally.


2-3 stargate phoenix + range upgrade and just start +1 air attack and shields
you need to grab a 4th base asap while doing this
just stick to chargelot/phoenix and add on archons and stalkers
then you just pin his army while you move across to kill him
while you are going towards one of his bases...warp some zealots/dts and have them go to another base
mutas are pretty ez for me nowadays

Yeah you should keep your obs in key locations outside your bases rather than trying to follow his army.
I usually have 3 spotter observers:
#1 watches the main for drops
#2 is on the ledge away from the third/nat, watching the two paths coming from the xel'naga tower
#3 is on the ledge away from the nat/main, watching the paths coming straight down/from my fourth base.

Hope that makes sense.

Have anyone try Gate expand ->forge+ 3 gate pressure -> stargate + 4-5 voids -> twilight/another forge-> chargelots/ archon/ ht/ voids combo? ( PvZ)
I used it and find some success with almost no problem hold 3rd and 4th.

Alright, I'm going to make protoss my main race again.

What are the standard openings for each race now?

I'm going to do Rain's 1 gate FE for PvT. I have no idea about the other races. I've heard that PvT is easy for the protoss, is this true?

How is PvZ and PvP now? What are the safe openings?

I tend to keep an obs over the little overlord bitch spot right outside the bar, that's what I was recommending not an obs clicked on their army cuz that'll get taeja'd

Like I said, my build only has 2 Observers before I start making Colossi. As soon as my Colossus Den finishes I need 500 gas (Colossus, Colossus Range, +1 Attack) available and so I literally can't squeeze in another Observer. I would have to delay something and I don't really want that.

I'm not sure where you're talking about, though. So hard to describe positions on a map T_T


Do you really need colossus range that early? Unless you are going for a 2-base bust, you can usually start range after your second colossus and be fine. This would allow for more obs or maybe a faster cannon to help against drops.

I dont have a problem beating the mech but how do I deal with blue flame hellion runbys and blue flame hellbat drops? I tried investing in a couple canons in the mineral but theu still kill a ton of probes.
people say practice is perfect but if nothing is perfect whats the point in practicing?
