Hey guys. I've written a thread once upon a time about a "Double Hotkey" setup, found http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=266862
But I can't edit that for some reason, so I've just decided to make a new thread on the subject instead, since it is a new edition, and many changes have been made. I've noticed I change my hotkey setup every few months lol. I also recommend you read the other thread because it has most of the concepts in there.
So my qualms with the last one was lack of army control, since 4, 5, and 6 was a bit far. So with that in mind, I simply moved a few things around, and added the HotS units in.
But first, a quick tip.
For snipe and things of that nature, when you're trying to repeatedly cast spells without shift clicking [since shift clicking screws up the AI], just hold down the button of the ability and click like mad. Like if I were trying to cast snipe, and snipe were on D, hold down D, and just click on all the units you want to snipe. Last time I did this was a few months ago, but it worked fine for me, and I have yet to try it in HotS, but I'm sure it works.
Anyway, just a quick refresher, the Double Hotkey setup is a setup that is focused on placing one function onto two keys so that they can be pressed twice as fast, so if you only need to build 6 marines, you don't overbuild them, but you can do it in the time it takes to make 3 marines. It's weird, but it works.
The setup has been revamped with a few changes:
Changes
+ Show Spoiler +
-Control function has been moved to Alt, since Ctrl+W, Ctrl+ E, Ctrl+4, etc requires a wrist tilt, which is uncomfortable. I might scoot the pinky down to control+click sometimes, but it rarely happens.
-4,5, and 6 have been moved to 2,3,4, since 456 were too far away from wer for me to actively use them lol
-Attack has been given an alternate hotkey of B, because 2b3b4b is really easy to press if ring is 2, middle is 3, index 4, and thumb is b.
-HotS units added lol
-Some stuff moved around to compensate for the shifting of the 2,3,4 keys
So place your hand on the left side of the keyboard like you're about to type "we fight"
The ring is on W, the middle on E, the index F, thumb on spacebar, and the pinky on shift. That's the resting position. Now just reach up slightly. Now your fingers are on 2, 3, and R. If you move the index up a bit more, then you're on 4. Feel how easy it is to transfer between these...that's the biggest change I've made. So here we go.
Control Groups
-W: Command Centers [I'm debating whether or not I add Armories and Ebays to this; someone told me SeleCt did this or something and it's a really good idea haha]
-E: All production.
-R: A scout, or really intense micro. Basically whatever I need to place extreme attention on; if this was Brood War, shuttle with Reavers
-2,3,4 : Army
-Caps Lock: Some SCVs that build Supply Depots
-Tab: The current hotkey that has my armories and ebays
-` [Tilde]: An added hotkey in case I need one
-Q: Something important, like what I'm currently waiting on to finish. So it might be a Tech Lab with Stim, so I can see when to push, it might be another harass, something there for you to spam.
Now, to bind these hotkeys, I have Alt+ W, Alt+E, etc...the exception being Tab [lol Alt+Tab], so that one is Ctrl+ Tab or Shift+Tab. I usually Shift+Tab, since I never really have to remove anything from that Hotkey, though I'm thinking about simply putting Ebays and Armories on W, and leaving that for even more harass.
I don't use my idle worker key, but:
Idle Worker: 7
Next Subgroup: Spacebar
Screenkeys: Z, X, C, V, F1, F2, F3, F4

Zerg and Protoss are pretty much the same, though I still haven't worked out a good system for injecting.
I'll be uploading videos for hand placement and things of that nature, because some of these might seem weird. I'll also be posting videos on hand placements for Standard hotkeys and other stuff like that.
Hand Placement
+ Show Spoiler +
I'm using a laptop because my keyboard's in my dorm and I'm in the library, but it's the same essentially
Here is the hand in the resting position.

Same, but farther so you can see the wrist orientation.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/NRo47n2.jpg)
Here's if I were to hit Ctrl+W. Look at that uncomfortable wrist tilt!
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/0YwFVLc.jpg)
Even though I'll only hit it once the entire game, it's still uncomfortable.
Here's me hitting Alt+W. Look how much easier it is! And no wrist tilt! The wrist doesn't even move! The thumb just has to scoot in a bit, and a bit of supination does the trick.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/GxAQhoP.jpg)
Here's me hitting Alt+2, a hotkey that I use a lot, since I need to constantly rebind my army in different places to different things and whatnot, or if I'm deselecting a guy because I told him to go to the watchtower.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/vXdcQx9.jpg)
Here's how I used to hit Ctrl+2 in Brood War. I must say, it's more comfortable than the other.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/rvRx1Do.jpg)
Here's the other way I used to hit Ctrl+2. Those are the only two ways without pinky bending IN THAT POSITION. If you put your wrist over spacebar, it's easy, I know.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/1do1FL8.jpg)
A very slight translation of the wrist puts us in the "army control" position, in prime to hit 2b3b4b

In the meantime, here it is. I'll be updating regularly.
