I totally respect what you're doing. Do w/e works for you. However "It works fine" is not really asserting anything. Any layout works fine once you learn it.

![]() i have the following issues: the walk command is mouse right-click; atk command is button (atm T, using grid) followed by mouse left-click. i want to change my atk command to mouse wheel-up/down, so that i can do kiting with one hand. (i use my mouse-wheel in nearly every game - who the fuck needs to zoom out and in?) moreover, i would like to scroll through my production buildings with the mouse-wheel. basicly: if selected target/group = unit { do atk command } if selected target/group = building { select sub-group } maybe i should download the file and look into it with notepad :D than i have another question: there is no possibility that you have one specific unit on a group-button by default? u always have to add the units first or create a new group, right? aaaand, u cant add buildings to a group after giving the command? u always have to wait, until the production of that building starts? so annyoing, rly... so much time wasted there. another time waster: i want to build a full row of units(eg. 6 marines with 4 barracks, 2 reactors), i have to click 100000 times for a single row? is there no command for "build one row"? if there is no such command, i would probably want to have the hotkeys for building a unit on [unit-button + mouse wheel-up], cancel on [mouse wheel-down] (and select sub-group on [mouse wheel-click]) anybody can answer my questions? maybe there are even options for doing your hot-keys like this? or do i have to do some "scripting", aka open the hotkey-file with notepad and hoping it works :3

Unfortunately you can't have attack and next subgroup on the same key, so you'll have to pick one for that. Also, you cannot have a certain until automatically bound to a control group like in dota2. The closest Sc2 gets to this is the "select all army" button. However, you can add buildings into control groups while they are building, but not while the worker is en route to the build site. There are some exceptions to this when you hotkey a drone that is going to build a building. (doesn't work in all scenarios though). You cannot build one row of units, you must press the key the number of times for the amount of units you want. You can hold it down, but that can lead to over queuing which can in turn lead to QQing when you lose because of your bad macro. You can't use the mouse wheel for production across the board, but you could use it for a single unit like a marine. Keep in mind, if you do this you cannot also have scroll wheel bound to a global bind (like next subgroup), but something like attack-move wouldn't be a conflict. A lot of these are cool ideas, but blizzard has yet to implement them. I know of no hotkey tricks that would change the above answers.

is that possible? or is it not possible to bind production to a key-combination /edit: in that case it would not even conflict with the atk move command. here the list: atk command: mouse wheel up patrol command: mouse wheel down unit production: unit button(q,w,e...) + mouse wheel up cancel command: alt + mouse wheel down select sub group: mouse wheel click

It works, and it doesn't change anything other than patrol, so it's something that can be incorporated. I won't claim it's optimal- it's just what the keys were several months back when I had last played SC2. If you still think it's worth having optimized camera creep spread in the Zerg layouts, I've got the next two days off work, and I'm willing to experiment with some other potential suggestions/changes and give feedback. As I said a while back, the one thing I'm certain of is that both setting and recalling cams should only use ctrl, because toggling between ctrl and ctrl+shift is an awkward intermediate step that slows the process down.

I think Beedebdoo has been working on it. You can take a look at TheCore Archive in a tab called "Key Use Overview" which should have the current 1.1 ideas. EDIT: Also, one of the biggest criticisms of TheCore has been that it changes too often. So we'll be taking a while before releasing 1.1 It could be anywhere from 6 months-1 year since the release of 1.0.

![]() I do agree with you. However, by taking longer to release and update, we can ensure that more time is spent developing that update than communicating it every step of the way to everyone. For example, the Protoss version for 1.1 is pretty much finished. However, as we work on TheCore Lite and the remaining TZR layouts we notice mistakes and oversights in the Protoss layout that we fix. If we were to stop now and release the Protoss 1.1 it would significantly delay the other layouts from being released as more and more of my time would go into communicating the layout instead of developing it. I think in this particular situation, our best path forward just happened to align with what many potential users/testers wanted. After all, if no one is using/testing the layout, than what's the point. I imagine its a bit of a slippery slope, but I think this decision is a pretty solid one for the time being.

I never thought about it until trying out this setup, so it's hard to say precisely, but I think I mostly used it for jumping to "your units are under attack" notifications. My thumb was always on the space bar anyway with the default setup, so it was faster in some cases than clicking on the minimap.

I can see why that would be useful, but in my experience a lot of the time when you try to jump to the alert you instead find yourself staring at your barracks where a marine just got trained. Maybe I was just too slow back then, I dunno ![]() ![]()

Maybe I was just too slow back then, I dunno ![]() ![]() I don't remember having that problem with the default layout, but I totally did when I tried a new key with the core. Maybe having my thumb on space always ready to go was the difference maker, or maybe it's just not being used to the core yet adds the extra critical response time. Whatever the reason, I think I'll try to make due without it. Should L2P and watch minimap anyway ![]() I've actually found double tapping control groups to be somewhat unreliable. I'm not sure how the precedence works but sometimes it jumps to units rallying across the map instead of on the action. Maybe it tries to calculate the median unit location or something, and when you have a small army with big reinforcements it would focus on the reinforcements... I think that's generally the case it happens to me anyway, so just a theory.

I learned about TheCore yesterday, installed it last night, did a lot of reading and video viewing--nice new YouTube Channel, Jak--and started to work on getting to know the hotkeys. Today I made a couple customizations, yanked a couple keys off my keyboard and started doing drills. This evening I started playing against the AI. Here's the result: my APM last game was 43. That's a 40 percent gain in one day! And here's the thing: when I was at 30 APM on grid I felt like I was going as fast as I could. At 43 on TheCore, one day in, I feel like I'm just getting started. I may actually get to a reasonable APM with this layout. I've played Starcraft since before Brood War came out; not hours and hours a day, months on end, but it's always been my favorite game. And now, for the first time, I feel like I might get reasonably good at it. Thanks, Jak, and all the folks that helped make TheCore available. It's been terrific!

![]() In other news... Introduction video is out for TheCore Lite! EDIT: In other other news... I'd really like to start tracking how many people are downloading TheCore and stumbled upon this article: http://www.blastam.com/blog/index.php/2013/03/how-to-track-downloads-in-google-analytics-v2/ Anyone have the skills to know if this or something else will work to track how many times a file in TheCore folder of my SkyDrive is downloaded?
