@Cyan,
Do you find the layout weird because it seems strange to have your hand on the "opposite" side of the keyboard, or do you find it weird because you regularly use your mouse with the other hand for comptuting?
The layout you dowloand depends on which hand you usually use the mouse with. If you regularly use the mouse with your left hand, download a lefty layout (even if you happen to write with your right).

One last thought on free-cams and drops. Using the CTRL-I cam with drops might be slightly faster/more accurate (we are still alternating fingers since you need to hit the harass CG in between) since "I" is also your drop key. I.e. your ring finger is positioned and ready for the drop command because you just used it on the free cam.
Maybe that's over-thinking it.

When it comes to efficiency there is no such thing as over-thinking a solution
Thank you for your post, the free cam seems to be a vital tool I haven't been using. I'll start practicing it and looking over the treads you linked.
Thanks

So I've been trying to use to TheCore (TRM), and it's been very hard to adjust to (oldschool BW player), but I'm starting to like it more and more.
Got one question for now: is there no other way but to remove the keys between Alt and Ctrl? I guess it's too hard to use the thumb on shift if I don't, but I kinda wish I didn't have to make my nice and new keyboard look ugly especially since I don't play SC2 all that much.

Personally, I don't think its a deal-breaker either way. I used a logitech k800 and black widow TE with all the keycaps on and I really didn't have much trouble. My current preference is to remove the one keycap near CTRL:

I think it would make it easier to find ALT if I removed the Fn key, but I usually just use ALT at the very beginning of the game.

I downloaded the TRM version, so I should be using J,I,O,P for hand positioning. But as soon as I load it up, I notice right away that the attack key in key bound to 'N" instead of 'J'... normal?
thx in advance.

thx in advance. Are you downloading the US Qwerty version of TRM? If you have downloaded and installed the correct version properly, Attack will be bound to J.

US Qwerty version works fine, thank you

I have a das keyboard and did not remove the keys. Its not a matter of necessity, but a matter of preference. Comfort is more important than aesthetics IMO, but everyone's got their own style

No, but from what I've experienced when you load units into a Medivac the units inside are unbound. Either that or it was a handful of freak coincidences. If you remove a medivac from a CG, all its contents are also removed from that CG. Maybe that explains what you're seeing? I don't ever have my Medivacs bound to CGs.

Ah. Thats weird, i cant play it like that. I write with my right hand, but i find it easier to use the left hand layout. You can absolutely play it like that. Using the left hand layout will be more familiar to you because it uses the side of the keyboard you are used to, but the biggest advantage of using TheCore is that you have your thumb on shift, with the ability to press ctrl, alt, and / as well. Don't knock it before you try it! hgnkajnvkjlnmji
Left hand layout means left hand layout, guys... I would quit TheCore for Standard if I used the left hand layout with my right hand on the mouse. It's so ridiculously hard to use Ctrl and Shift that it would infuriate me too much to even try to transition.
I know I'm basing this off of myself, but when you have so little information, what else can I do? I can't make such bold assumptions like you did.

@Anty Not even for drops!??!

However, it's still entirely true atm because of TheStaircase.

nice one I hope you are enjoying the new benchmark

Hi JaKaTaK
Excellent work with TheCore. I have been wanting to design my own hotkey layout for a long time. Then I stumbled across TheCore today. I might end up using TheCore or a modified version. But before I decide, I have a few questions, I hope you can answer:
1. Is it allowed in tournaments to remap the positions of shift/ctrl/alt to other positions on the keyboard. I know the program Sharpkeys can do that. 2. Do you think, sometime in the future, that the ingame hotkey editor simply will allow keycombinations like q+w/q+e/q+r. So a 2-keystroke combination, doesn't have to be in combination with shift/ctrl/alt? 3. What about using a special keyboard like the Logitech G13. If you don't know it, It has 22 keys placed in a grid. They can hold macros, but of course also 1-key strokes like shift/ctrl/alt/a/b/c/d/... Is such a keyboard allowed in tournaments?

Hi there
1. No. Sharpkeys is a 3rd party program and is not considered tournament legal (as far as I know) 2. Probably not, but that's just my intuition and experience with how Blizzard has been handling hotkeys. 3. I don't know if game pads are allowed in tournaments, if I had to guess at it I would say yes, but you may want to reach out to specific tournaments and see. I imagine a properly designed game pad is much much better than a standard keyboard.
Hope that helps, let me know if you come up with any cool modifications to TheCore that we may want to steal

I've been using the second free cam for the top of my main base ramp. However, like you mentioned, that location seems to quickly become useless, typically after 23 supply or so. I'm thinking about trying to use it on a good drop location, but I'm not entirely sure how much that'll save me.
With an initial drop, I almost always have to go to the minimap to queue move commands so that I can drop from a safe/unscouted angle. If my mouse is already at the minimap, does a rally cam help me much?
The more useful situation, in my mind, is when you have a medivac safely loitering near a good drop location. In that case, I just want to hit the cam for the target mineral line, select my harass CG, afterburner, and then drop. Ideally, this happens as I'm about to attack with my main army or hit somewhere else with a brand new drop.
TLDR: I'm thinking "loiter target" for my second free cam.
Thanks, that's a pretty good idea. I use CTRL-J for my rally now so I will try using CTRL-I for a drop cam.
