W/1/2/3 = Middle A/Q/Z = Ring S/X = Middle D/4/E/R/F/V/C = Index Shift/Control = Pinky Shift/Control were always sprint/walk/crouch in the games I played. Just got used to it, my hand naturally rests there

Also, why is this in sc2 Strategy forum? i dont see how using different fingers for your shift key is related to strategy. Post this in March General discussion or in General forum... or delete this topic at all and just use poll ... nothing to discuss here...

Thumb otherwise. It's a bad habit from wc3 though where you had more "freedom" with where to place and move your hand, but can't reach out past T when the thumb is blocking out the index finger.

As a lefty I'm pretty sure I use my left ringer finger. Edit: nevermind totally spaced. I guess not having a keyboard in front of me screwed me up. Now I see I got it all backwards. In that case I use my right index finger.

If you look at the poll your clearly not. As that's the second most voted finger. Whether that's their reasoning behind it I do not know. But people did in fact vote that they use their ring finger.

The most effective way is thus obviously to use the little finger on shift.

Today I found out my keyboard has a Switch Lock function which allows me to swap the Caps Lock and Ctrl. I think using my pinky to hit the caps lock will allow me to position my hand higher up on the keyboard allowing for better reach to F1 to F4 and also to 7 and 8. What are your thoughts on this? Has anyone tried it? Thanks

![]() It might be a leftover finger location from FPSs, though. I can see using the ring finger being better for ctrl+shift.
