I thought this was a keyboard problem, so I tried this with a different keyboard but I'm having the same problem so I'm pretty sure it's an interface problem.
Whenever I try to queue buildings with shift, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, I'd have to let go of Shift and try again until I can get it to work. I have zero problems with typing in Caps or queuing move orders with shift.
Did anyone else have this same problem? It's sincerely bizzare and it started to happen recently. Is this a common interface error? Does anyone know how to fix this?

You're probably pressing shift too early.
I'm pretty sure if you select a worker, press shift, and tell him to build something, what you're actually saying is "finish mining out this mineral line, then go build this object."
What you want to say is "go build this object," then press shift, saying "go build these things after you finish the first thing," and finally (still shift) right click back on the mineral patches.

Don't know if this is relevant but I once had a problem with shit queuing my tanks to siege after moving into position which is the command "shift+e"k. When I would initiate this command, my tanks would not siege at all. What I noticed what was wrong was that I had recently binded new hotkeys for camera hotkeys, I had changed cam 2 to ALT+E to hotkey cam 2, and made it Shift+E to return that specific cam. After noticing this, i restored the hotkey command and everything works perfectly with shift queuing tanks to siege. Have you done this recently? Maybe it's affecting you.

Well you can't shift queue commands if your workers status changes to unable to build (for instance, money being spent, sent inside refineries etc).

When you shift build buildings, the money is auto-spent already so that won't cause him to stop.

No, this is not my problem. Even if you shift queue buildings with workers that are mining, it shows the green grid placement for the buildings. This doesn't even happen for me, meaning the shift functionality itself isn't working

I have that problem too, as a Protoss. It tells me I can overlap build queues for gateways or pylons if I mess up the positioning, and then I can't re-position them unless I cancel the entire chain of commands

Not sure precisely what the problem is but i also had some issues with something similar about queuing buildings. I solve by adopting the technique where you always consciously move command to the spot where the first building will be and then for example b->g and shift next commands... Sorry if i misunderstood your problem completely.

Hey guys. I had this problem and after 3 to for mind numbingly frustrating games i decided i had to fix it. I am not sure how the problem happenes. but the fix is simple.
All you need to do is go into windows and turn off Sticky Keys. Basically something you have done will have turned it on.
For Windows 7 users this is how you do it.
Go into Start -> Control Panel -> Ease of Access -> Make your keyboard easier to use. From here simply uncheck the box thats says - Turn on Sticky Keys.
Hope this helps you guys. As i was searching for hours and no thread or forum seems to the fix. Plus i wanted to post it here as TeamLiquid are boss

from my observation the problem is lag related. while normal keystrokes are queued, the modifiers are not. The state of shift is checked when a queued key press is processed by the game. In case of lag, this can lead to failures, because the key event is processed say 150 to 500 ms after you pressed the key, so you already released the shift key.

Are you, (for example) grabbing a couple SCVs, holding shift, then spamming a bunch of depots/rax/whatever down?
I remember reading a post in this forum about it a while ago, but I can't find it again.
It's a problem specific to Terran (cause other races don't build stuff the same way) and I think it has something to do with how the game decides which SCV is going to build which building. Ravens have a similar problem when setting down a bunch of auto-turrets even in an empty field.
Try looking for that thread, if you can find it.

the only time this happens to me is when the building is interrupted, like trying to play a spore or crawler in a mineral line and something gets in the drones way… or if there’s a wall at my choke and I try to build something outside the wall the SCV/probe just goes the corner of my base and makes a noise at me.
