Hello,
Training your micro against only banelings is pretty easy, but actually you almost never face banelings alone, there are always zerglings too, so training to split against banelings seems pretty pointless.
Here's my problem, when I face a banelings+zerglings army with marines (and maybe some tanks), what should I do? Split marines to lower the power of banelings(but obviously increase the surround of zerglings) or keeping them boxed hoping banelings don't connect?
Is there any good solution to this? Are the tanks absolutely needed?(in the early game, when the number of glings isn't too high)

Siege up tanks run marines behind them is ur best hope for banes to waste on siege tanks
|
So what you're saying is that you can't beat zgling-bane without tanks, even in rather low number? that's sad.
|
The most common response is to have tanks sieged, targetting banelings, and to run your marines behind the tanks and then split them.
|
Tanks are absolutely necessary in this matchup unless your playstyle revolves around never giving your opponent a breather, such as the new(-ish) slayers style. Even then the follow up is marine tank, you just can't win without good tank placement.
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=237869 <- this map is great for all kinds of micro practice, the challenge "TvZ timing push" may be what you're looking for.

Watch GSL 2 with MKP against Kyrix, he does it against ling bling with pure bio. You will absolutely need medivacs sooner or later though along with stim. Best solution imo, is split your marines just enough and run them behind the tanks while target firing the banes with your tanks too

Well mass marine can beat zerg bane if you outnumber them enough. But this again isnt a game situation

Thank you all for the answers, unfortunately you confirmed what I thought.

ehh, happened to me. You can go pure mass marine, and with good upgrades and medivac coverage, then you can fight ling/bling head on pretty easily.

Not sure what sort of level you are looking at for this. But for me in Silver, I find marines plus hellions (getting blue flame too) deals with zergling/baneling with just a little bit of micro. As long as you keep the marines away from the banes (which I find usually end up going for my hellions more than marines), you should be ok. Hellions can kite banelings pretty well (off-creep) and the marines can deal a fair amount of damage when their not running for their lives. Target fire the blings first and then your hellions will easily clean up the zerglings left over.
|
I find that if I have pre split the marines before the battle I have far more success against ling bling + infestors. Tanks are totally necessary and frankly I cant understand why you wouldnt want them they are a fantastic unit.
another solution is to go tank helion like TLO - its much better I think

If you're micro'ing against exclusively banelings (works on and off creep) using patrol after stim will cause marines to be slowly in range of the banes, thus spreading themselves out. Try rebinding your patrol keybind to something more convenient like Q.
The sequence would then go something like this: 1 - T - Q - Click opposite the banelings.
***This will NOT work well against speedlings as they get in range of the secondary rows of marines much more quickly than banelings, especially on creep.

As other stated, this.
Just run once the marines behind the tanks. Don't stutter step. Instead, use your APM to target banelings.

You absolutly need tanks. They are not only good they destroy zerglings and banelings. With a good tank count and presplittet marines you dont even need to split your marines. Just choose your tanks and spam on the banelings. You really need to spam on them !
Spread your tanks out so you will always have ways where you can run only when he would come at you from 4 sides. Just make sure he dont catch you when your tanks are unsieged. Simply frog your tanks forward and kill the creep.
Edit: If you dont like tanks you should consider to change your race because tanks are the unit thats makes terran really strong and you absolutly need them in tvz and tvt.

Watch SC vs Losira on Terminus :D
Anyway, with perfect micro you can't lose if you play mass marine. Just look at the Automaton 2000 bot and that other bot
Just get tanks tbh.

Yea as others have said; just use tanks. They are so good. Even with perfect marine splitting, infestors will eventually own your bio.
