Hello fellow TL'ers. I've been away from the game for maybe 1.5 years (haven't played Ladder since season 1) but after being bored to death by D3 I decided to go back to the last game I actually had fun with. I'm not sure if this is the apporiate thread to post this in but didn't think it warrented its own thread.
Anyways, I since I haven't been playing for so long I'm way way behind in the metagame. If someone could help me by giving me 1 solid build (preferably macro oriented) for each match up I would really appreciete it, that way I have somewhere to start. You don't need to give me specific build orders, I'm sure there are threads or liquipedia entries on them, I just want to know a few strategies that are still relevant.
If someone knows any comprehensive Terran guides that would be awesome (preferably videos but posts or threads also works).

I'm in the same boat as the above poster, the builds I used previously were the 1 rax FE, and reactor hellions. Reactor hellions doesn't seem to work for me anymore, but i guess it's just my rusty mechanics. Last played season 5. Is there anything that I should be aware of? (new strats, timings, e.g. currently every zerg is trying to bust me) Platinum league previously.
Also need recommendations for solid TvZ openers, and how to react to a early gas from zerg.

MY PERSONAL TAKE ON THINGS (/anti ragenerd shield) - TvT: 1/1/1 tank vik is a very, very safe opening, and allow to put pressure on greedy opponents. - TvZ: either 2 rax eco, 1 rax expand mass rine pressure, or 1 rax expand hellion banshee, control creep, take third and go for 2/2 max timing. - TvP: Mech/biomech 1 rax expos; see jjakji's or MKP style.
|
I find the two TvZ builds I use work well.
Hellion/Banshee if you're control is good and it 90% of the time kills a fast third and can take the natural if still on just lings.
Blue-Flame openers are also good and can be approached in many different ways. Gas first or 1rax FE or reaper FE.
I personally find TvZ my easiest matchup at the moment because it's still a very easy to understand matchup (past the stupid all-ins that have become popular). TvT is just so dynamic that it takes the most practice to be good at. TvP is my worst matchup and I find it hard to do the incredibly micro/multitasking needed -_-

5. The drop-trick: Press "d" (drop) and select a medivac/overlord/warp prism in movement, and it will begin dropping units without halting movement. Combine with shift-clicks and several dropships, and with some practise you'll have gosu dropmicro.
I got this from the 1000 tips thread. From what I can understand you can D-click medivacs so they drop in movement without looking at them? How does that work ?
Shiftclick pos1,shiftclick pos2,shiftclick pos3,shift D-click medivacs , shiftclick ending position from pos 3 to pos 4 to drop in movement?
|
i just had a zerg baneling bust me at 10:45 with 47 banes and 36 lings when i only had 38 marines so my double wall off and 5 bunkers just died =(
i feel my build wasnt getting tanks out early enough, what do you guys do after a 1 rax FE to survive this kind of all in?

Just like you do when you want to drop in movement while looking at them, but you shift click it like everything else.

Got a great answer about Mech TvT a few pages back. It however missed som information I would like to know!
+ Show Spoiler +"My standard build right now is 12 rax, 15 orbital, 16 CC, 16 gas, 16 depot. Sacrifice some marine production to afford all that as well as geting a reactor after you have started the factory, which you equip with that reactor for hellions. Followed up by another gas and starport for a raven or viking."
The question is; What's the follow up from this? Is getting 2 extra gas, another factory and start siege mode asap a good choice, or is something else prefered?

Yes, because if you don't Marine tank pushes will devastate you, because you just have hellions and a Viking/raven.

Search Storkmans TvZ build on here. you can have about 30+ rines and about 4-5 tanks(with siege) with 3ccs before that time. his build is SPECIFICALLY for this all in and the roach bane allin.

Tanks are very useful against mass banelings-- if they are seieged up they can 1-shot clumps of banelings. Try to keep your marauders in front, clear out creep, and not get flanked as well.
Against Tanks, you almost always need either tanks of your own or to catch him unsieged.

When you see banelings, you usually need tanks. Each tank shot can kill multiple banelings with 1 shot if it is in siege mode.

Tanks will do very well against clusters of banelings. Try to target groups of banelings with your tanks. Also remember to pre-split your marines so you don't have to do it on the fly. In the end, if you can get pre-splitting and good target-firing, a marine-heavy composition is much better than a tank-heavy composition. That is to say, with good splits 40 marines/3 tanks is infinitely better than 25 marines/5 tanks, even against heavy baneling compositions.

Hi silver terran here. Quick question: How do i manage to make sure i get a good concave in a TvP when both armies are out on the map? Obviously this is the difference between winning and losing the match in pretty much 100% of lategame TvPs and at the moment i seem to lose them all lol.
Thanks!

Nooby question on Tank baneling focus fire. Is it fine and good to shift-click with your tanks on multiple banes? Like if I have a control group with 5 tanks, and I click 5 then shift click attack a bunch of banes?
There is no risk of overkill is there? Like they won't all shoot the first one and then all be on cool-down right?
TY!

TY! nope, there isn't overkill for SC2 Tanks.

Guys are there any real big signs of what a zerg may be going for late game. Is there any way i can tell if they are gonig ultras or broodlords before its to late? Do i just have to wait until i see one corruptor and just go balls out to react to it?
