What is the diff between colossus builds and council? Is it just personal preference, or colossi are good to kill roaches, lings and hydras; and templars are better killing mutas?

Cuz TBH I don't like templars, the only plus that they give is a free blink upgrade. Which leads me to the second question:

I'm always confused about what protoss can afford, for e.g. blink, immortal and 6 gates off 2 bases. Is this affordable and a viable build in all matchups?

4gate Robo Immortal/Sentry/Stalker -> Third Base/Colossi when playing against styles that don't involve Mutalisks.
6gate Blink Stalker -> Third Base/Templar when playing against styles that do involve Mutalisks.


If templars or colossi are the best to begin with really depends on your initial build, your opponent, and the map. Colossus are great on maps where there are opportunities for exploiting cliffwalking while templars are great with storm for choke-heavy maps and for breaking force-fields and such with archons. If your build involves an early robo it's often quicker to go colossus, but otoh if you intend to get blink or more than +1/+1, you need that twilight anyway.

You can't give a clear cut answer to questions like this as so many factors matter, and no matter which path you choose you'll eventually want both, and you'll start teching towards whatever your initial choice wasn't fairly soon after you start producing the first.

Hey guys, I've got a couple of questions regarding the 7 gate blink with +2 attack all in PvZ.
1. Should I do the 4 gate zealot +1 attack at the Zerg's 3rd? It seems Zergs these days have gotten a lot better at sniffing out proxy pylons and being pretty prepared when it comes to this timing. Or should I just go forge, nexus, gate, cycore, twilight -> 6 gates?
2. What are some tips to prevent or reduce a Zerg's scouting effectiveness with the new Ovie speed?
3. Should I delay my push in order to get out a single observer and/or a warp prism?

The answer to all of those is, it comes down to personal preference. MC regularly does 4gate zealot into 7gate blink, while other people (genius vs drg in the gsl finals on cloud kingdom for example) go straight for blink. There's advantages and disadvantages to both builds.

If you go for the 4gate pressure it's highly unlikely you will deny scouting since your units will be on the map trying to secure a proxy pylon spot, rather than in your main searching for ovies. If you don't go for 4gate zealot, then just watch where his overlords are placed, but your initial 2 ranged units close by and the twilight somewhere they will have a hard time reaching.

Again, depends. If you go for 4 sentries, the warp prism helps because you can blink into the main, ff the ramp etc. With a pure blink stalker allin, not worth it imo. Same goes for obs vs no obs; the only thing you get is you can deal with burrowed roaches.

I hear it on incontrols and whiteRAs stream. They have this squishy sound for when they can't warp in units. Where do they get this from

This comes with the game, the sound happens when you press "w" while all of you warpgates are on cooldown.

You are pretty much forced to get robo even if you want to get twilight tech. Without observer you will die to cloak bancheese, DT, Borrowed roaches with tunnel claws, also you wont be able to scout and remove creep. Ofcause you can use halucination for scouting. But my point is just that robo is such a core tech that it is forced allmost every game that goes beyond 1base

Yes, but depending on what you scout you may not need it immediately. As I said, you'll want both eventually.

Going to bump this question, really struggling to sourceExample of what Im talking about an answer.

When WhiteRa is warping in units at 9:50 you can hear that warp in sound which is different from the normal warp in sound.


Just listen to when he selects warp gate.

Lately I've been trying to improve my macro PvZ play, which I'm not very confident with. I just played a practice game against a mighty foe (the very easy AI) attempting to execute Puzzle's fast robo build from Monk's macro PvZ thread. I thought I did pretty decently, though I think my probe production was a bit lacking, and I ignored things like unit positioning to deny ovy scouts and paying attention to my obs. I was just wondering if there are any other notable flaws in my execution of the build that I could work on.

This anti-Protoss tirade on TL is tiresome. But now within the Protoss Help Me Thread? (It's Iike walking into the Citadel and spitting at the Conclave.) I follow this thread pretty closely, and as a low level Protoss learn a lot from reading it. Strangely enough, I don't think "just 1A more" has ever been offered as advice.

Categorizing a race as imbalanced or easy makes people feel better about themselves not being good in a matchup. In reality it doesn't do anything for them other than hampering their ability to improve. Their loss.

7gate you probably going 1-1 with zealots and a few more sentries.

Really? I guess I didnt know that because I use a custom grid set up.

Then why doesnt the sound work for people who dont use W to warp in ??

I've checked the "read this second thread" for BOs for beginners (one against each race), but they are all very old (newest are six months old).
Are there other highly recommanded BOs for beginners out there? Preferrably ones with a fast Nexus.
