Infestors are actually really good, especially if you know how to use them. I usually get 3-4 infestors in ZvZ mid game for the following purposes:

1. Poke into the zerg's base burrowed to scout. In ZvZ detection is quite rare.
2. If #1 successful, it'll encourage me to get tunneling claws for an epic strike.
3. Fungal growth, especially when he is exiting his base so his units block one another to delay his push
4. Fungal growth during an epic fight to PREVENT my opponent's army from getting a good concave by laying down a few on one side of his flank. My army can then make a clean sweep from left to right outnumbering him 3 to 1 while his army is split up and held up by fungal growth. Many have forgotten this attribute of fungal growth. It is not *just* for damage dealing!
5. How can we forget infested terrans?
6. If someone refuses to gg and quit when lost, neural parasite his last zealot kill his own pylon to humiliate him.

Well, what do you use your infestors for?

Increase the efficiency of banelings by fungaling those pesky little kiting marines :D

Destroy 1 base muta with a couple of fungals.

I have destroyed 30 muta at once with Fungals. Opponent was ultra greedy, took early golds, I let him through lazyness.
He had map control, wouldn't let me get a third, could expand freely, all fixed with 3 fungals.
Play the games!

fungal takes banshees and DT's out of cloak for the duration. dont even ever need overseers hypothetically if you have infestors on the field already

Not necessarily. It's quite common for a zerg to get 1-2 Overseers midgame in ZvZ to contaminate the opposing player's hatcheries.

With that being said, I've really been enjoying the infestor play in ZvT. They're also quite fun to use versus a zealot heavy Protoss.

IMO I feel like the infestor is absolutely key in ZvZ because of the ways they can shut down muta harass, using fungals on your opponents maxed army (try to get the hydras), and when you finally chose to engage you can use it to gain a positional advantage and then with any extra energy you have you can throw a ton of infested terrans onto his hydra line and do sick dps.

In ZvT I understand the benefits with going infestor instead of mutas but I still feel that mutas give you better map control in the matchup which I think is the absolute most important thing in ZvT. But Ive seen players like bitter use the infestor combo with a lot of success.

I sometimes use then in ZvT instead of mutas, you can worker harass if they dont have turrets up and they are sick with upgraded lings/banelings vs heavy bio play.

ZvZ i prefer to get faster upgrades and hydras, usually a midgame vs roach/infestor i overpower them because of hydra numbers + upgrades despite fungal.

I just watched a game on someone's stream, and they went mass infestor instead of muta. And it seemed brutally effective. Mind controlling the few tanks in the front, and have them start shooting the clumped up marines you just fungaled.......Talk about turning a losing situation around in a split second. And it basically cost nothing but energy. I honestly don't know why they arent used instead of muta more vs T. Sure, you give up some map control, but mass turrents and 50 mineral tier 1 marines rip mutas so hard it's not even funny. Not to mention thors. Whereas infestors take the terran's siege line and effectively turn it right back on itself. Fungal those marines, mind control a couple of sieged tanks, and you can wreck that dreaded MM/T ball in a matter of seconds. It DOES require better control than muta/ling though, so you'd need a good 150ish APM to really utilize it fully. It's kind of a knife edge battle, with both sides able to annihilate the other in seconds if a mistake is made.

I have been hearing that allot of players on the Asia server have been massing broods and infestors as a late game army comp vs terran, they engage with broods and wait for the units to run up and kill them, as they do they fungal and re position the broodlords to there siege position (afar), as the broodlings pore down and distracts the terrans units, infested terrans are being thrown down while the tanks eat up the broodlings, to help aid in dps, fungals are amazing and infested terran have insane dps.

All terran really has vs brood lords is there reactors on there starports, infestors clean up vikings very easily.

I have been thinking about this more and more each day, It really makes the zerg able to have a cost effective army late game. It costs allot of gas, but its not in any means impossible late game.
Why don't we see who is the wizard and play some one on one, I think you'll find me sympathetic to ya when I've won, It seems you've got the brawn to beat me if this was all it takes, But I've got skills to pay the bills and punish each of your mistakes.
