In PvT, what are some good builds to use against a Terran going for a one rax gasless expand?

If you were going nexus first, go ahead as planned. Otherwise your standard opening should be some form of 1gate FE. Do that, except play even greedier than usual. I.E. if you usually get the nexus down after a zealot and 2 stalkers, cut all unit production and put down the nexus the instant you scout gassless FE. It's perfectly fine to get the nexus before your core if you scout him in time.

You aren't really gonna face any early pressure, probably the only thing noteworthy is a naked 4rax push which leaves his base ~7min with ~16 marines. You can either have a bunch of stalkers to kite him with, or a good amount of forcefields. Either are good ways to deal with this push, or just use whatever you feel works vs 16 marines. Note if the terran opts to do this push their stim is usually delayed by quite a bit which allows you to be quite aggressive if you want to be.

Long story short: play greedier than you normally would.

edit: if you want to all-in him you can certainly do so but it depends on the map. Usually blink stalker all-ins are a good way to punish this, but some maps allow for a quick, aggressive 3gate (i.e. taldarim) which imo is the most difficult to deal with because of how early it hits.

Hi

How do I ...... I dont even know what to say.

Whenever I find a good opening for myself, I always get countered by something that I cannot beat...

So basically, if I go reactor expand, I get 4gated and I die.

So....is this normal guys? Then I have to scout and respond to what I scout? So my original plan is to reactor expand but then i scout 4 gate, obviously I have to react by bunker right?

There is no 1 build that beats all, surely?

You have to scout, and react to what you scout. You can't just go for a FE, scout 4 gate, and don't build any bunkers and expect it to go well for you. Also, you can't get the idea in your head that you cannot beat something. Every strategy your opponent throws at you can be dealt with as long as you have the proper reaction. 4 gate is by far one of the easiest strategys to react to, as all you need to do is build 2 or 3 bunkers and put some scv's on autorepair around them at the 6:30 mark.
You must learn to allow patience and stillness to take over from anxiety and frantic activity... The good player is patient. He is observant, controlling his patience, and organizing his composure. When he sees an opportunity, he explodes.

When people refer to pro's having 300 APM in BW, do they refer to what would be called APM in SC2, or EAPM / CPM?

No they still get the speed increase. The reason for this difference is tumours actually belong to a player (and so provide vision) whilst creep itself is neutral and so provides it's effects to any Zerg unit so long as it exists.

BroodWar APM means "real" APM, being all key strokes and clicks. I believe currently the CPM displayed in SC2 is the same thing.

Uhh that's kinda contradictory.

APM = Number of clicks regardless of whether it's spam or not, everything is counted.

CPM = APM with the doubled up actions removed so merely commands given, not how many times you click the keys etc. aka EPM / EAPM.

Also, there a discrepancy vs action per 'real world' minute vs action per 'blizzard in game minute' which APM is currently recorded as in replays.

Anyone know what BW refers too?

Hey all, new guy to SC2 here just hoping for a simple answer!

I've been told a good way to learn is to watch TeamLiquid streams of top players who play my race (Terran), especially those who provide commentary / insight on there decisions.

So my question is could somebody please recommend which Terran players I should watch? Preferably ones who talk about why they are doing what they are doing

Thanks guys!

BW means Brood War, which is the first and only expansion to Starcraft 1.

Surprisingly there still aren't established "markets" if you will for masters league commentary. I'd do it if I had the computer/internet -__-

Anyway, in terms of straight quality of play, you can't go wrong with any of the top level koreans. Forgg, Polt, Alive, Taeja, Bomer. If you manage to catch MMA, Puma, or Ganzi those are good too. Other high level players are kas, thorzain, rainbow, and illusion (though tbh i've never seen illusions stream. (dragon is also quite good when he's not trolling)

In terms of quality+commentary, I think DeMuslim is certainty the most popular, although he doesn't always commentate. Trump use to play a lot, high quality stream and really nice atmosphere, though I think he's experimenting with other games or something? Maxsc was also enjoyable; very clear mic and stream quality, although he's not on very much anymore either. /ucdtbeezy, tbeezy, or tim, is also a fairly good stream; stream quality isn't top notch but the play is high masters. I think he mostly streams during the late afternoon/early evenings, you might be able to catch him when he does the NA playhem dailies.

Hardcore commentary during the games just isn't quite there for terrans yet, it's something I really want to do in the future. But if you just want to watch some kickass play, the koreans stream fairly often, and you can always access the vods.

just finished a z vs z and i am a little bit upset about the fact that 3 times a baneling of my opponent kills 2 banelings of mine (without splash damage, but one after the other). how can this be? it sucks...

Just played an incredibly long ZvZ. I had roaches against his ultralisk infestor until my broodlords came out. I was wondering: how should I micro my roaches against his ultralisk infestor? Should I ball up and kite back, risking the fungal? Or should I split my roaches to prevent splash and fungal against them like one would marines against banelings? I used both in this game, and both were relatively effective. I just don't know which is better to do.

Thanks for the quick response phiinix, appreciate it mate.

Good list of names there, I will watch out for all of those. DeMuslim I have heard of before so seems to be one to look out for.

You mentioned vods, what exactly are these?

So, another "simple question" (I hope!). I've been reading one of the guides on this forum "how to improve efficiently" and it advises to learn 1 build against each match up. I've only been using 1 build against everything so far, it was one I found a video for on youtube by HuskyStarcraft which is a 3 barracks build.

I've looked Here on Liquipedia at the different builds but i'm finding it quite confusing.

So my question is which 3 Terran builds are best for a beginner to learn to have 1 build against each matchup?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any pro Terran players who regularly get the building armor and/or high-sec auto tracking upgrades?

@ Codonbye

won't say regulary, but yesterday at assembly, the terran in the finals did it against the zerg in the finals and was praised for it coz of the zergs ling heavy style in that game.

Think i've seen it a few times against muta as well as a trick build, and in drawon out TvT as a mineral sink.

My question is this
How would you rate the levels of mistakes tou are allowed to make in each division?

Obviously GM is little to no mistakes, but how does it scale down?
GM is top 200
Masters is top 2%
Diamond is top 20% (exclusing masters)
Plat is next 20%
gold is next 20%
Silver is second last 20%
bronze is bottom 20%

Please. Someone? Getting kinda down about laddering atm losing to things where control is an issue.

This can't really be done. The reason being that a player can choose to do a build that highlights certain aspects of the game. There are the obvious examples of people who cheese their way to masters/gm. These players clearly aren't showing phenomenal macro but perhaps have very good micro (or just plenty of time and games).

In general though, macro is the clearest issue as you go down the ladder. I forget the thread title, but some one did an analysis of probe production and showed it is clearly weaker for people in different leagues on average. Another guy did that spending quotient analysis which showed lower league players have more unspent money on average. The different was pretty clear even between gm and masters.

Avilo is another good one. sure he rages and such, but all in good fun and it's entertaining. If you ignore his hatred for toss/zerg, he almost always goes through his thinking vocally, which I find is extremely helpful.

To reply to the other fellow that answered your question, I agree this is something that is really needed for T players, good players streaming with comments on their thinking. As a side note, most of the professional casters are not T for some reason, which is too bad. (except Doa, can't help but get the warm fuzzies when he complains about how annoying probes are when your scv is simply just trying to mind his own business and build a building ) Maybe we would be getting more from watching the casts.

Hey guys,

not really a strategy post, but i dont found it worth opening a new thread in SC2-General: I am watching the MLG right now and wondering about the "blueness" of HuKs buildings. Is it confirmed, that they are using some color patch ?! Since Rob Simpson is there, who is a Blizzard Employee, this means that they know about that and allow this modification of their game. So we can all use this mod, if we want, and refer to this tournament.
