~ At what time should I get my Spire, at what time should I aim to get my 3rd hatchery? I think it's respectively 8-9 minutes and 6-7 minutes? ~ in ZvT (LingBanelingMutalisk), when should I start my teching to Infestors? ~ How effective is a 16 ling drop in ZvP or ZvT?

I don't really know what you define as "better". They really map dependent builds I think. On a smaller map 2 rax FE into some kind of hellion build is really nice to just control the flow of the game. On other maps a Gasless expand or reaper expand(I prefer reaper) gives you a nice window later to move out for your third or pressure his with an army. They both accomplish slightly different things so I think there is no "better".

Many people do, particularly with 15 hatching. Since the mid-game is dominated by roach/x play, banelings are seen as a "dead end" tech worth skipping for the extra 100/50 + drone when you can. On the flip side, there are opportunities to use banelings to punish roach first especially in the context of 1-base play. This is because the timings to getting out your roaches off 1-base are relatively tight, especially if you stop for ling speed. So you'll sometimes see banelings as the early game tech choice which forces the opponent to play defensive (either turtling to a critical mass of roaches or getting banelings of their own) while the aggressor puts up their natural.

-In TvZ, I get +1 vehicle damage so tanks can 1-shot +1 armored zerglings, but after that I get armor instead of damage. Good or bad ?

Assume the BOs from the two zergs are the same. You can just line up building times to figure out what the window is (if there is at all). Warren = 55s Roaches = 27s Baneling nest = 60s Lings = 24s So assuming that you can keep the initial batch of lings from your opponent under control (i.e., not in your base), you have about 25s of hairiness before your roaches can be at your ramp. Generally speaking, you'll have lings of your own to parry their aggression but you'll have to cut ling production at some point to afford the 225 minerals for 3 roaches, so you'll fall behind in that respect. This is a small enough window that you'll see wild variations in the successfulness of bling vs. roach in the wild based on each player's individual execution. Furthermore, it's a small enough window that a small change in BO (e.g., 11 overpool/bling) will have a significant impact on how everything plays out. Final point I'd make is that you won't be safe to expand with the threat of ling/bling at your door. You'll need to power out more roaches to plug the hole and guard the front. By then, your opponent should've already thrown down their hatch, so you'll be behind in that respect. But you'll have the advantage of tech, i.e., the threat of running them down with a burst of roaches.

Going from 1 armor to 2 armor is a lot more effective than going from 0 armor to 1 armor. 2. Most protoss ground units have more armor than shields. 3. Shields help buildings and air units, but air units typically are not meant for direct engagements - just harass, so they shouldn't be getting hit in the first place, and buildings... also don't get hit a lot. 4. It's cheaper.

So yeah. You only need +1 attack over zerglings to net the immediate "full benefit", so as long as you keep up with that, armor should be a fine thing to upgrade.

Another thing to note is that banelings don't have a "rush distance" in the same sense that roaches do, for the intial attack. Since the production facility for banelings are zerglings (rather than larvae), you can proxy a bunch of zerglings, and morph them to banes and attack much more quickly than you could with roaches (assuming you make a bane nest or roach warren at the same time) since the rush distance doesn't matter. That, coupled with the possibility for enormous damage and effectiveness against light units is why you often see baneling aggression.

The other reson a lot of players will get banelings is to help deal with the mass ling style of play that can wreck an early roach play or a fast expansion style if not properly defended or controlled. Also, they can be used to put pressure on a FE players because they will primarily have lings for a medium sized timing window

It really depends what "standard bio stuff" is-- how quickly he expos and with how many bunkers, and how much gas he takes, when/if he techs to starport for medivacs are all important. For example, if he does a 1 rax fast expand without gas, has only 2 bunkers and is teching for medivac, a 6 gate timing attack could end the game right there. If he takes a fast third and is making mostly marines, it's possible that a 2 base colossus timing attack will beat him (but be aware, a 2 base stim/+1 timing may shit all over a risky 2 base colossus rush, since it hits during the timing when you've invested 400ish gas and gotten no returns yet). Really, the answer to your question is more based on his build than on your build-- but if he's doing a risky fast expand, a 2 base 6 gate attack should in general take him out. If he has 3+ bunkers then you'll have trouble busting him regardless, and should either tech or take a 3rd.
