Since I only really see thors against Zerg, what is the cannon for? Stunning ultras? I could see in TvP stunning colossi being a good idea but probably not worth the investment. Maybe if he went coll instead of HT because you got ghosts you could stun them long enough for your bioball to do its magic.

Thor cannon no longer stuns. But it does own Ultras.

pretty sure you can't stun ultras anymore. you could stun another thor though... as far as I can tell though, it's just so they can be feedbacked.

Wait, I thought Thor cannon still stuns, but Ultras were immune to stuns and mind control?

EDIT: Not a terran player, but isn't the cannon also good against buildings? Like with a thorship you could drop and annihilate a building then pickup and leave quickly?

I'm pretty sure the cannons still stuns units. It just no longer stuns Ultralisks which are immune to stun. I wonder if it bypasses immortals shields though.

NO, you CAN'T stun an ultralisk. It is immune from stun.
Cannon is used to take out core structure/key tech buildings quickly and to get rid of enemy thors/colossi etc.

Regarding cannoning colo, the cannon of thor is out range, so unless you can catch the toss off-guard, it is unlikely to hit colo. but once you hit it, it is a sure kill since colossi have low HP while the barrage dealt 500 damage over 6 seconds. but you got disabling colossi as well.

its a spell so it does, and I have tested it in beta. No reason it would be dif now.

Thors are good for lots of things. Using 250MM cannon is an easy way to snipe tech or even nexus/hatch. If you drop some thors you can destroy buildings with cannons.

The stun means you stop dps. I wonder if it stops PF from firing...

canon insta pops immortals which is nice, though usually regular thor shots are just as fine.

I use them to destroy main buildings fast, aswell as killing big units.

Also they stun buildings too, including PFs, hatches (from spawning larva), any building from producing units or researching. Nexus from chronoboosting, Orbital commands from scanning, ect.

ever since they have required an upgrade ive never used them.

it does seem as if they only have it so they can be feed backed. there is no real point to EVER upgrade it.

I always get it vs Zerg if the game gets that far, but it is a pretty useless spell other than being used on ultras imo. If they lower damage and add splash(like the Odin), I would always incorporate it into my play, HINT HINT BLIZZARD! Maybe like 150 damage over 5 seconds.

In the latest Blizzard Q&A Dustin Browder said that he knows that the cannon isn't very used, except maybe on those ultras but he said that not everything in the game needs to have a use and that the cannon stayed just as a bonus.

It's not like it takes something out of the game and some of the more casual players can use it for the cool effect.

and they could become good anti casters in the future with more expansions and casters being added because of their high HP and ability to stun+ kill at range.

They're great at giving Zerg players 2-for-1 discounts on dead Thors with every Neural Parasite.

Literally never research them vs Zerg, since Ultras don't get stunned.


I guess....maybe you could use them to take out Immortals and poorly positioned Colossi, but it doesn't seem like a good enough response to merit making Thors and researching an upgrade when you could just get Marines and a few Vikings like you were going to anyways.

What he says, the only use thor has was versus ultra now its not even useful versus uktra since if you kill uktra while the cannon duration is on you are losing dps so blahhh. And also if you research it and get NP you are screwed. Versus toss when are you every going to use it? if toss has mass immortal ghost emp would be much better. So yeh i think the only reason terran has that ability is for thor to have energy so they can be FBed.
