Hey!

Map Name: The Hunt For Red Omegalisk
Download: Search for it in arcade (EU only for now. Will publish on NA later today)

I have made a couple of SC2 melee maps for 1v1 and such, but I've never before used the trigger / data editors and this map is a result of me getting to know both!

The premise of the map is rather simple: Find and kill the Omegalisk. The path is fairly linear and it generally involves the player moving along a pathway while cut scenes, objectives and dialogue scenes guide the player along.

So this is not a multiplayer map. It can only be played by one person at a time (other people can spectate the game, but the cameras and cut scenes do bug out a little bit).

I've asked a friend of mine to play through the game while recording, to get a better idea of how someone who has never seen it plays. I should mention he has only ever beaten the single player once and has never really played multiplayer. He still managed to plod along just fine and even worked around an unexpected bug (the blinking part near the end). Anyway the relevance of the story being it took him just under 10 minutes to play through it.

Video:

Known bugs:
Anyway it should be noted in the video that the bug he encountered was a first for me and I'll be looking into it. It was to do with entering / leaving a region messing up. Also at one point he tries to destroy some rocks and the default text of the rocks say "destroy these rocks to open paths" when in fact I have edited them to show a custom message. But again that's minor I guess and I'll see why later.

Some Images:

I kinda feel there are to many cut scenes and perhaps it will run a bit worse on some PC's (unlike the person who recorded the video... who has a beastly computer!) Any and all feedback would be appreciated!

Why use the model of an Ultralisk? Go for the cooler Brutalisk model

Also totally agree that you should cut back on all those cutscenes.

For improvement, make it a cooperation map for 2 players and add difficulties while perhaps lengthening the path a bit. Some sort of linear RPG challenge would fit much better
Comparing BW with SCII is like comparing a beautiful three-master sailing ship with a modern battlecruiser. Both are beautiful in their own way, both perform the same task, but they are worlds apart in how they are built and how they are steered.

i'm sorry dude, but you should rename your map into "A-click in the jungle". It just has nothing interesting.

You need to work on your constructive criticism, if you have nothing constructive to say - its best not to say anything at all.

Doh! I forgot all about the Brutalisk! I'll have to look into making it a 2 player map - I hadn't really thought about it to be honest, thanks!

No worries. That name is probably taken though.

I'm definatly going to play this when you get it published on NA but that is not what i came here to say.

There is a distinct lack of story driven customs! I have been playing with similar ideas for heavy story driven, cutscene bolstered, customs for single or coop play. A story mode experience with fun mechanics! There is definatly a void of these type of customs that I, for one, would love to play. The quality of this looks great to me so i tip my hat to you.

More spells and mechanics is always a great way to diversify gameplay and add dynamics to strategy

Keep it up.

Ah damn... I didn't even consider the lighting causing problems!

Thanks dude! I totally agree with the lack of story driven customs. I mostly just wanted to get to know the editor and ended up adding, what I guess is a rather weak story to mine . There isn't even really a story to this one lol. I reckon I might dabble with some more in depth stuff once I figure out the dirty data editor a bit more. Takes a more skill than what I have at the moment though!

I use a different PC to publish to NA and I haven't been able to get around to using it. Will probably need a little time on it as it seemed to be a bit buggy when I copied it. I think everything I did in the data editor reset.. or at least some things were reset.
