Don't know if I could be a regular but I would be interested in playing less known custom games (UMS or melee) on a semi weekly basis. There have been events like this before with mixed success: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/3657438794#9 Don't know if anyone has managed to get a weekly thing up before.

Like i don't aim to be in the "top" custom map, i guess i will just give up. Maybe the "1.5 patch" you're talking about will make me change my mind

Part of the problem with getting random people into your game particularly for games that are more complicated is what I like to call the "hospitality factor" of the other players. If Nexus Wars were ladder, I'd be pretty high right now, but every so often I'll check out another tug-of-war kind of game or I'll revisit Desert Strike, and quite often the people who are there expect you to have absolutely everything figured out about the game. There are some out there who will try to give some instruction or tips, but most of the time people will rage because you seem to be doing something out of the ordinary and non-optimal. I would say this general tendancy is quite off-putting and is probably part of the reason why it is difficult to get new people into some customs. I think one thing that ought to be available is a quick guide feature, and maybe this thing is possible already with the editor, but there needs to be something more accessible then something to be programmed (or copy pasted) into the triggers for each map.

Usually I just find friends from school/team to play with, usually I can steal 2-3 of them.

What pisses me off the most though is the fact that the top games aren't that good. They're good, but not Page 1 material. I want epic tower defenses like in WC3 or SAT Control where there's a lot of innate fun no matter how much you play. Usually I just find friends from school/team to play with, usually I can steal 2-3 of them. Tower Defenses were a product of limited map tools and limited mapmaking ability. There are far shinier gems hidden in the mountain of concrete than a good TD.
