If you havn't seen this map climbing up the ranks in the custom maps, you obviously have been playing 1v1s or something trying to get into GM league, but i assure you this is such a great play!
This Map is made by Dark Revenant, and is a spin off map of Epic Mafia forum game.
http://www.thecouncilofmages.com/forum/index.php?topic=35.0
What is Mafia? Mafia is basically a faithful rendition of the party game of the same name, which you can learn about at http://wiki.epicmafia.com. At a basic level, Mafia is like Survivor With Guns. At night, the mafia elect to kill someone. At day, the town votes to lynch somebody. The mafia win when the town is dead and the town wins when the mafia are gone. Of course, that's the simplest possible setup. There are in reality many roles and variations that can be used; my rendition of Mafia tries to include lots of options, but it is impossible to include all of the possible house rules that people might want (I'd be working until the day I die and not make even half of them). For this reason, my Mafia will include roughly three dozen roles, many of which are familiar to veteran players, but some of which will be fairly unique. There are many options, but this is still my interpretation of the game; I have optimized the experience and game mechanics to work best with the battle.net service and playerbase. What are the features? Many combinations of options and role setups Lots of custom UI, including a full-feature setup screen Customized chat system Dynamic tutorial system (optional) Carefully-made game mechanics that flow smoothly and react dynamically Lots of polish, including a natural day-night lighting scheme and several execution methods A lot of other crap that you could find out by playing the map What is done so far? There are currently 9 roles (with about three dozen in total planned) and countless combinations of game options and role setups with more to come in the future. Beyond that, all of the game mechanics are finished. I will also add more execution types later on when I get bored. Where can I play Mafia? Play it on North American or European battle net, under the name -Mafia-. You can organize matches in the Mafia channel; this is the preferred method because the players are much less likely to leave mid-game and will be more knowledgeable about Mafia.
This map is so great and really gets you thinking. Dark Revenant also updates it every day and has his settings for each day. Not to mention, ive played with him a few times
Give it a shot, post your feedback here, i love this map, hope you do too. *i'll post SS when i get on my other comp*

This is an amazing forum game, so I assume it plays like that but faster?

Except with more trolls and a lower general intelligence, yes.
This game is not only well designed in terms of trickery (unless the host chooses stupid rules at the start), but it's hilarious with custom names and the 'last will' that is read off when you die.
Really nice game.
I like to play Mafia IRL and the sc2 is nicely done
I absolutly understood nothing. Absolutly nothing. Can anyone here explain what is going on the map? Nice cinematics by the way.
Nice game :D played it last night
I've been playing this game like all night last night. yet I have never been mafia... Still love it though.
Game is a lot of fun, but a bit overwhelming at first. My first time playing I was the Godfather and I was too worried to type anything strategy-wise at night because I wasn't sure if it was going to be sent to everyone, or just the mafia.
Only minor complaint is there often seems to be periods of time where nothing is happening and everyone is just waiting for the timer to run down... still lots of fun though. If you like the party game, definitely try this mod out.
Funniest fucking customs game I've played in SC2.
Literally, the imagination of people on BNET is absolutely amazing.
The general Bnet populace really sucks at mafia. You get lynched for asking questions, lynched for voting, and vigi'd if you talk a lot. I'll stick to TL mafia, thank you very much.
A real game of Mafia takes time. TL mafia works on a 48/24 hour Day/Night cycle. This mod's got 30 seconds for each. You've got no time to figure anything out at all.
I tried it today, its damn funny i agree, just to relax and "roleplay" a bit

This map is fun, I was playing it the other day while procrastinating on studying chem. It gives imbalanced setups sometimes (2 medics and 2 detectives and I got mafia T.T), but its generally enjoyable, even when you lose horribly/get lynched for no reason.
Tangential yet strangely on topic, you guys know TL has a Mafia sub-forum, right? If you find you enjoy playing on bnet, playing on the forums is even more fun.
Linky!
haha I love playing mafia irl, I'll definitely check this out once I get out of class.
fun game, a lot like irl mafia
i love the map; Too bad points get reset all the fucking time
Definitly my favourite custom game , its incredibly good. Especially fun playing with friends. Can't wait till they add more roles.
I've been having really good inhouse games with the Mafia chat channel peeps. Join pub at your own risk though.
this is the most fun i've had in sc2 for some while now....
The strategy is generally low but the comedy is pretty high.
It's also annoying when dead people throw information out in the lag chat panel.
i REALLY like that game. i just wished there was more RP involved in public games.
This mod is cool but only when u are playing with normal ppl, not like on bnet. Whoever gets first vote rest is instatly voting same guy for no reason.
I'm playing this mod now for 3 days straight and I must say that even with just like 8 different roles for now there are SO MANY situation possible, each game you must to think who is what and not be deceived it's really interesting when played properly.
this game is so great, best custom game BY FAR
im having such a great time with this MOD, it really play you, so much lie xD just Awesome!
I find that if you use names like Charlie Sheen, EGIdrA, Justin Bieber, Rebecca Black, etc you tend to get lynched first just because of your name. Then it turns out you were a doctor or something and everyone goes "ooops" Well this is what I've seen so far lol
I really only play to leave last wills.
"To my darling Esposita, my cherry woodcuts."
Also, I like defending myself by stuttering in chat in and typing *sweats profusely*. For some reason I get hung whenever I'm on trial.
Mafia is a really fun game irl, hope this is just as good , gonna download it now or later.
everyone is so bad at this game..
Is the best game for practice you lying skills lol.
Edit: Lying is bad, dont practice it ! Just do it for fun!
Tired of noobs sheeping on lylo?
Then try SC2 Mafia Mod!
Where the noobs will sheep on every lynch! :D

LOL are you serious?! Every lynch haha ><
TL mafia should organize a series of games and/or bo-someoddnumber, with the winner being the person with most "points" determined by certain positive actions. :D
This is a pretty fun game but it's pretty annoying if you get taken out in the beginning just because you decided to name yourself HUGE BLACK DUDE. I love that the accused are allowed to make statements on their podium as well as last wills (the best I came across was "do these pants make me look fat?") although I wish there were more styles lynch deaths (only saw electrocution and fire squad).
Maybe the map would be better if dead people could perhaps control an NPC in the town. The action phases during the night also seems kind of long sometimes and there's not much to do.
Oooo, havn't played Mafia in years!
Super glad this was added!
I think it's way too hard to win as the Serial Killer unless you get the special can't be killed at night and/or the shows up as innocent if investigated options. You're basically a solo Mafia member without any special abilities beyond killing..
this game is sooooo addictive!
Lmao this is awesome, I was the last mafia as a consig. The other 3 left were a vigilante that had used all his kills, a serial killer and a prostitute.
I managed to persuade them that i was an investigator and we killed off the serial killer. I then managed to put the other two against each other, I sided with the prostitute and we both killed the vigi xD and I thought consigliere was gonna be boring
I love mafia games but IRL they are so much better. The best part of it is seeing how people behave differently in different situations, how they lie and try to convince other people, the bodylanguage behind it.
Aren't there more Politically correct names for them?

According to the post it hasn't been shut down, but republished with renamed roles. That was also posted on the bnet forums, so it's very likely to be crap anyway. Does it really matter if hooker is now lady of the night or something?

Mafia was removed, but it's back already. DarkRevenant fixed the names really fast.

Awesome mod ^____^ Keep up the work on this map, Dark rev!
playing with random pick ups can either be the most fun or a rage fest, some of them are SO dumb
But most of the time its just a trollfest, and tons of laughs are to be had in these games.
A must play at least once :p
One of the best sc2 maps out by far. I've been in some pretty epic games, one time where there was 1 mafia left and 2 good guys left. Real tense. There was also a game where the host made most the ppl witches lol. Most retarded game ever. Overall, I think a really well designed map, with lots of diversity in the different types of ppl and strategies. And the stupidity of some ppl is frikken hilarious. lololol
I'm so glad there's an alternativ to just joining and hoping. The shortness of the days means that trolling can easily completely derail a town (which I will do if mafia*). You can get good groups sometimes and then it's like a lightning strategy game.
Overall, it's a nice fun mod. Any chance of P or Z themed roles/optional models? I loved the variable execution methods - especially the sniper.
*Using 4chan memes as your sole form of communication is a valid playstyle when trying to shut down discussion.
Well i think the game is great. WIth some more feature and improvements will be even better soon. Sure it is a "short" Mafia Game if u compare to real Mafia... but it is a SC2 mod... no one wants to play days in a mod ^^
Only problem with the game are the peoples... To many people just random lynch someone - just to have lynched someone. What makes it worse is that a lot of peoples go for it & vote either for the guys who was voted first or the guy who voted first. Also a lot of bnet ppls just dont know how to RPG just doing some fooling around and dont care... ruins a lot of games unfortunately. My favorite is Vigilante... most of em just random shoot someone first and second night... and are happy as 5 years old chidrens who got bought a lollipop if they hit a bad guy by mistake... at least 80-90% of the times they hit an innocent - twice.
Also they are ppls who abuse the game by skype/ts to share infos or ruin the game. As u have access to your chat/f-list u can easily exchange infos here too... AT least a way to play the f-list/ingame chat... should be implemented if possible^^
So... if the game is not as awesome as it can be... it is just a players fault... If u have a good crowd... and want to play a Mini-Mafia... its epic game.
Watcher and Trackers now in the game. Watcher is ridiculously overpowered for town though.

I have to say, the SC2 Mafia cannot possibly be compared with the game on epicmafia.com. The amount of stupidity on SC2 Mafia is incredible. I see the following dumb acts in almost every game on SC2 Mafia:
1. Sheriff calls a player guilty by mistake (probably due to bus driver, etc.), that player claims doc, becomes uncc'ed, gets lynched anyways. 2. RL lands on vig, vig claims, gets lynched anyways. 3. Insisting on RL on mylo situations. 4. Player A claims Sheriff, Player B ccs, Player B gets lynched.
Ultimately each SC2 Mafia game has way too many players. It's way too crowded. The graphic is nice, of course, games on SC2 Mafia cannot be won through tells, only investigations. Maybe overtime the skill level of the general population will improve, but for now, I stay away from SC2 Mafia and play exclusively on epicmafia.com.
In fact, the creator of SC2 Mafia DR still play on epicmafia.

This mod becomes extremely good when it is played completely inhouse (only mafchan), at least in EU. And how much fun it is depends a lot on the host, because you have to have either a good setup or a crazy one. For the time being, it depends a lot on powerroles instead of deduction and logic and this will not change completely due to the shortness of games, but generally it seems to me like the general level of games is rising. Just don't play public games.

Well, both short and long mafia games can be good. I'm relatively new to the game (I knew the party game a little bit before I came to SC2 Mafia) and haven't played forum games yet. But I think I can see your point, longer games give you more time about what you do yourself, how to find out who's lying and stuff like that, which generally (but not necessarily) will make for "higher quality" games. On the other hand, faster paced games like the mod can be a lot of fun as well. Having a lot of powerroles who can always change the course of the game makes for an maybe extremely different playstyle (I suppose) and you have to deal with the pressure of having to decide things fast and if you're not able to do so you might just die. Essentially, forum mafia and sc2 mafia have a different emphasis regarding gameplay. You might like the one or the other or even both. But everyone who hasn't tried the mod yet should definitely do so

Could someone give a quick guide on how this game works.. I tried it but have absolutely no clue what the heck is going on.. are you supposed to like... roleplay in order for this to be fun?

Once, a jester claimed to be a veteran, which I was, so I said he was lying, so they lynched me ^___________^ Actually, he voted to lynch me, everyone followed like sheep, and when voting came, only the jester vOted. He voted guilty. So, basically, a jester lynched me by himself. I learned two things: 1. Town is stupid. Also, the mafia wisely killed the jester, and the serial killer won. 2. Everyone except the town is mysteriously smart. Unless i'm mafia, in which case the mafia is really dumb and I end up ordering everyone around.

Use all information possible. Do exactly what your role says. Your rolecard is in the top right of the screen. Maximize the top left screens to see what roles are possible and not possible for everyone. Use investigative role to the best of your ability. If you are a killer, proceed cautiously. 2. Play. You won't get it at first. Once you get almost every role, you will understand everything that anyone can and can't do. You will understand hi-tech strategies and be able to execute them. You will be a master of communication and deception. 3. Understand that 85% of players in the mod are idiots. You must adapt to the irrationality of fellow players. You therefore must use logic very carefully or not using it at all. If you can not outwit the masses, become them.

Quite fun but most people act like retards and seem to believe the trolls. Trolls are mostly mafia. If you clean up the trolls in the first two days you can finally start thinking.
Too many of Mafia games lag, probably because the more people are in a game, the higher the chances of there being someone with slow computer/internet. I've seen a guy who keeps joining and lagging games, and I don't see why he would do this except to troll.

Unfortunately alot of trolls play Mafia :p

If he didn't push hard enough for his lynch targets (And he should only really be pushing one maybe two at a time), then of course they aren't going to die. :p

They might have been skype cheaters trading wins who seem to be quite rampant these days. |'ve had it worse before. I was an investigator, just found the godfather, and told the town about it while giving my evidence. Nobody got lynched that day. I kept saying the same thing the next day, but still nobody got lynched. The following night, the jailor jails me and executes me without saying anything. I made sure to leave in my will who the godfather is just to remind the dumb town again. After my role as an investigator is revealed and my last will is read, the godfather guy goes "alright guys, let's kill [some random town guy]. He's a mafia" and the town immediately follows his vote to lynch the town. The maf wins without losing a single player. Hard to believe that they weren't cheating.
I love mafia but like mentioned the cheating has gotten a little out of control lately. I'd find some in house games or start playing TL mafia, but I really only play it to take a break in between laddering sessions or while I'm drinking/eating.
skype cheating can't be prevented in any way....
but if you are lucky and have a pretty good setup..... you can have a fun game....
still even in a fair game, random lynching and some trolls (had a troll investigator once) can ruin pretty much everything. And as a side note bus driver should be neutral cause in the last 3 games i played he fucked up some investigations by random swapping and the investigator missed the mafia lots of times......

This mod is a casual version of the mafia forum game. No you don't have to role-play, it's just about trying to figure out who is part of the mafia team and who is not.
But really, you guys who like this game, should consider playing the real thing, available on these very forums.
