Models can have "variations" not sure if what you wish is a "choice" or an upgrade you get from "x" (points/area commandeered/whatever) event?
i suppose it is a "level" reached that triggers it?
if the unit is to remain the "same" you have to set up a "unit model" with variations and get how it works / set your model with the different "variations" in the proper order (variations get an incremental id i believe (original is 1)
then make a trigger that sets the change: ("unit has 500 kills" "unit enters area "51" "game time is "33:33") .. whatever event and action: set model variation on unit to "xyz"
something like that

okay, thanks for that overview. I want players to have a choice from a menu that then checks if they fit the requirements. Hardest part is changing the models. I'm not sure what trigger command to use for that.
Here's a really simple question: How do I make it so specific players can't use the attack command on allied structures(like photon cannons, bunkers, and spine crawlers)? edit: nvm silly me, found it easily in the weapon's target filters

When i run my map in custom games my map is in a strange mod ( called SUPER MOD 3 ) with 300 max pop custom unit etc etc instead of a standard melee mod. I played a game 1 day ago and it was standard like always, i didn't change the map at all, i did nothing and suddenly the map run in this SUPER MOD 3 ... am i alone with this bug ?

You are under the "mods are cool" bug influenza.
To play YOUR map and reo-btain near vana, search for it in the search window and do not select the "recently played" or "my uploaded" say "thank you" to the coders involved (whoever they are.. wow maybe the person responsible for the mod, maybe blizz themselves! wow again!) for the time you took typing, the time blizz took to find it
and then create game and it should deliver YOUR map
not your map with someone's pesky mod unto it.

The model change occurs when the player gets the upgrade. what you could do is create an upgrade for each model you want to use, and then have a trigger to grant the research of that upgrade.

I'm struggling with making Ghosts able to Snipe from inside a Bunker. I'm using the Redirect from Stimpack and have made it possible to EMP from inside the Bunker, but I just cannot get the Snipe thingy to work. I tried to give Bunkers the ability to rotate and it didn't work, I think it must be something in the way that Channel Snipe works, mb it cannot create the dummy or maybe the Ghost is not getting the buff? Any ideas?

Did you give the bunker a snipe redirect ability?
edit - hmm, been tinkering with this and can't get it to work either. I would try creating a new snipe ability from scratch and then creating a redirect for that spell. It's weird because I've gotten this exact thing to work with much more complex abilities.

I have a problem where I can't access certain assets in the editor. For example when I try to place the doodad ZerusLogBridge I get this error message:
[10/25/2016 11:32:49 AM] Warning: USER: [ 4d3 1] CActorDoodad[ZerusLogBridge] Model created via Cache; ModelLink[ZerusLogBridge]; Failure to initialize.
The doodad is placed but invisible. And I get one of these error messages for each doodad whenever I load the map.
Anyone know what the problem is and how I solve it?

I play zerg at level top master 1. I was playing vs mech and ghost compositions. I am almost color blind. I can not see "red" dots from ghost's nukes on the ground... Is there any solution to that? Instead of red dot there should be same nuke image as from terran's point of view.

I have WoL and I am interested in playing around with SC2 modding. Can I do that with LotV assets, or is it necessary that I buy LotV first? Thanks.

Models themselves are not suppose to appear when you select them directly.. you are suppose to be placing a unit with this model...
If there is a problem beyond that, .. depending on the model, it can be obsolete (blizz took out something to do with the model and forgot to reset it or delete it), it can have had a change of name (as in it is accessible with some other model name) or other. In most cases it is asking for bugs to go against those (as in erase it from your map or possibly down the line you might forget about it and it might come back to haunt you). Some models do not function on all tilesets, again nothing to do but select another model. Sometimes the doodad/unit is "broken" and you can fix it (there i'd go to mapster to find out ) but that is more like an exception to the rule i think, sorry. Making a unit yourself with this model as its actor model might work easily if the problem does lie within the unit/doodad.
As for error messages themselves .. who cares when it works, and cool having the info when it does help identifying the problem (alas it usually does not. The cache bit might be helpful.. if it is i would suggest changing the way you set up the use of your sc2galaxy (allowing it more memory etc) and saving at every step (particularly when going from data to other workwindow/module.

I don't suppose people still use this thread... but I'm trying to make a change to the Hydralisk so that the projectile model it shoots changes after grooved spines is researched. In other words... In the same way Infernal Preigniter changes the hellions flames from red to blue I want the Hydralisks attacks to change to green after its upgrade. I am planning on using the Locusts projectile after the upgrade. If anyone could show me how this is done or link me to a tutorial I'd much appreciate it. I am an absolute beginner, so the more dumbed down the better. Thanks!

Hey guys, I have the starter edition and the Test Map button is (of course) unavailable. However, how can you run the map at all from inside the game? And if you can't what's the point of having the editor?

But how do I see the damn maps myself? I don't wanna promote them, I want to see the in-game result of what I made in the editor. And I can't find a single option inside the game to play the map I just made.

What is the content of your sc2 folder? Sorry i bought all three so i don't know...
IF you have an editor there should be a test map button..if not, maybe you can drop "your" map on the sc2editor app to open it on local?

Well I can open and save maps with no problem, and they show up in my folder. The editor has a Test button, but when I press it there's a message saying I have to buy Starcraft to use the button's functionality. Which I thought would be just a minor inconvenience (not being able to test the map right out of the editor). But, as it turns out, there is no option in the game itself to run my map, so I really can't see what I've made in practice.
