99% of maps will have been designed with racial balance in mind. It is not likely you will find many already existing maps that are designed for a mod that doesn't even exist yet.
There are some maps with wide ramps (see Blizzards scrap station) and even a map with a low ground main and a ramp up to a well protected nat to encourage fast expands. But these maps were created with regular SC2 in mind.
If you are interested in creating a mod then I would recomend looking into how to make the mod first. Making a few rough maps to test it out on will be the easiest part of the job.

I know how to make mods well enough; and I can figure out the balance well enough with some work, the real hard part is getting people to playtest. Ty for reminding me of scrap station and i'll try to find that other map as well.

Other players cant play my map, and the map dosent show up in the Match History either.
Any way to fix this?

Now when i published it, it whouldent work in the same way.
I can play it I can invite others to play on my map.
I cant search for it. It dosent show up in open games even though it says ive opened up the game to public. Other players can check the map info, even bookmark it, but not start it without me (the creator)
Just ask questions if you have an abundance of info.

did you publish it as public?
|
Oh, wanted to ask some map makers something about design of certain areas: Do you think that adding destructible rocks to openish areas will make them more "viable"? I will give an example with a map that I personaly dont enjoy too much: Star Station LE - does adding a destructible rocks in the middle of the open area infront of the natural, to the left of the 3rd so its making this 3 corridor area istead of a large wide open place will help the map? I think it will give this early game security while late game it will not change much because you can just kill them.

The map version that was private, it allowed me to be Observer and Referee on the map. On the other hand the public one didint allow me to be Observer and Referee.
How come?

I had an idea for a map feature: sanctuaries. A place on the map where you are not allowed to be attacked or to attack from. I wonder if it would be broken because terrans would fly over buildings and cause stalemates, but nevertheless, it seems like a fun idea to me.

i suppose that by default the editor gives different parameters as far as what it allows on public maps, ...in this case your mod allows for features that vary greatly from the "norm", so blizz might have a feature that foregoes these
i would go ask people who have succesfully done "obs" and such features how they circumvented it (here or on mapster)

So I have just downloaded starcraft 2 arcade and I don't see any crazy maps with different models like in warcraft 3 is it because the editor is bad or what? I really wanted to play a Dragonball map, something like spongebob ninja slide or some anime DotA. pls halp

Blizzard only just released the art tools they use to put models in the game. That was only about a month or so ago. AFAIK previously it was possible but a pain in the backside.
There are a few games which have custom models but I expect more of them will be apearing in the future.
|
Yes, just wait, you will begin to see more custom games in the future. Up until now it was really only practical to import WoW and WC3 models into SC2. But the floodgates have opened since the release of the art tools in the last few days, we just need willing participants (aka 3DS max users)

I would like to make a an extension mod which forces it to be 1player, removing the loss requirements etc. The intention is users use this mod on standard melee maps. how do I do this?
|
You're saying you want a mod where the game doesn't end when there is only one player right?
Open Modules-> Triggers, find Melee Initialization, delete the line that says "Melee - Set default melee options for all players"
As for forcing 1 player, I think this is controlled by the map itself, but you can change player data under Map -> Player Properties
|
Yeah that's what I'm looking for, however I'm not sure I follow your instructions. It's not actually possible to delete that option it seems.
|
Apologies if this has been asked already, but how do I put down collapsible rocks? I can't see them when I try to put down the rock towers.
|
Units, search for 'rock tower' then add it. If it doesn't appear, then do Data, Units tab, search 'rock tower', right click, view selection, view in palette.

edit - nevermind, it appears when you copy the trigger over into an extension mod the original initialization trigger persists anyway.
