I often try to save my maps, but when I open it again the changes are not saved, or there is simply no file to be found.
Right now I am simply using File + Save As (User/MyDocuments/Starcraft2/Maps), but it is resulting in the problems stated above. Is there something I am missing in the process? Note that this happens for both melee and arcade maps. When you save as User/MyDocuments/Starcraft2/Maps the file will be saved to that directory. You can then make a copy of the file yourself for your own back up purposes. Then if this problem occurs you can open the backup file using the editor. This hasn't happened to me for a long time but the editor used to not save my maps properly. So I would be editing a file and saving regularly then the next day go to load the file and would have lost several hours of work because there was some bug in the editor when it came to saving. This has been reported by many people since SC2 first came out but doesn't seem to happen to everyone so there are people doubting the problem existed and saying "oh, you just forgot to save" but it has happened to me (and others) many times. I got around this by saving regularly, making backup copies of the file and every hour or so I would restart the editor. It's a pain to have to close the editor and then load it back up again every hour but it solved the problem for me. But like I said, this hasn't happened to me for a long time so I figured it had been patched.
Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure if people even read this thread anymore, but is there really no interest in the idea of modding maps to improve FFA gameplay? I've read a thread where a fellow made a few requests for a bounty-system / spectator mode, and someone made the mod for him, but it didn't really 'take off' or anything.
I'm guessing mods are just a massive waste of time overall in StarCraft 2. I really want someone to say "No you're wrong", but I keep seeing projects where people get 6 dudes logging in to play and talk every half-moon at best, and simply bashed / ignored at worst. I guess someone famous has to go on a rant about it or something...

i have read every post in this thread (some twice) and glanced/read all threads on this glorious sub forum (+ Show Spoiler +recently ignominiously relegated to the strategy sidebar, rrrr ) , so while not an expert on anything, i have this to answer:
"No you're wrong"

ffa is a weird beast, 1v1 rules on this forum ( )
after having produced 20/30 melee maps for 6/8/12 players (indeed all playable in 1v1 too) .. i feel there is both a lot and few things to say
yes many people have downloaded them (from various sites).. so they must be doing something with them...
no they are rarely commented on .. on tl, or indeed anywhere else (1/100 ratio up to 1/1000 ratio)
mods are absolutely not a waste a time, but it all depends what you hope to get out of it (fun, recognition, new play partners...) ...?
for instance, i play photon cycles .. and the thread is sinking in the depths.. while no one posts, many new players (for more then 2 years and right now) have had their attention drawn to this game (mod) by that thread
so.. any "mod" or ffa map destined to the ffa crowd might not be greeted with much and still make lots of players join or use them on sc2 or galaxy...
open source is humanity's salvation
and sc is bigger than tl
glhf and don't be "low".. go for it and it will be worth it .. trust me
ps:+ Show Spoiler +do not kid yourself, this IS the best thread on tl, thank you Empyrean and thank you to all the posters who have the good instinct to help out people posting "constructive" stuff in this thread

Hi all, total newbie here. I have been making some maps and have finally become confident enough to ask for feedback and direction. My quick question is this, the map I have made is a basic Melee map (uses standard layout and units etc), however I have added an environmental effect where if units enter the waterlogged area's they lose health slowly and get a corruption buff. I suppose it's similar to the lava death type maps. Would this still use the [M] tag or should I use [A]?

I would personally use the [M] tag, since you seem to be describing a map that is intended to be played as a melee map. I think that the [M] tag as described in the guidelines is a bit restrictive (New Polaris Rhapsody, which won the Red Bull TLMC, would be classified as an [A] map under a strict interpretation of the guidelines, even though the map is intended to be played as a melee map; classifying melee maps with some UMS properties alongside general UMS maps seems counterproductive to me). I would suggest [M] [UMS] as a tag as it will inform readers that the map is a melee map with UMS elements. This is just IMO.

[M] seems fine if you are looking to have people talk about this particular classification issue
[M][UMS] seems fine if you want to avoid said discussion
[A] is ridiculous in all acounts
thank you for asking, thank you for producing such a map

Which "pro" player would you want to do a melee map for?
+ Show Spoiler +personally i'm lobbying to get catz on "galaxy" and i wish qxc and nony would get someone to do one with their ideas showcased

Where do i get a working map analyzer? I didn't find a single one that didn't bug out on "can't read file" or something

If this bugs, it is sugested you post in the thread with a link to get ahold of your map.. maybe it might work on another computer.

Question. Yesterday I played a number of 2v2s on my map, Blood Bath (ofc), and I have a trigger that upon loading randomizes colors for each player. This has worked great and is really cool. However, yesterday 2 games in a row placed 2 of the players with the same color (or maybe it was slightly different?), it was the brighter purple color. It happened when the players were enemies as well as as an allied team iirc.
I'm pretty sure part of the trigger is supposed to check if the color is taken before it chooses the color, so what's the deal?
=== Also, some of the player colors are hard to see on screen or in the top right player race/color dialog box. Is there a way of like outlining the texts with a contrast to read them more easily? Like for example black, brown, white, dark green/blue can be difficult to read.

I don't know why your trigger doesn't work. I've never seen it before.
But if you are willing to show them to us we might be able to give you some advice on why it doesn't work. Or if you are lost and want some advice I could tell you how I might solve the issue. Like with most things in life there are multiple ways you could go about it.

Don't know where to post this question I hope I'm right in here:
Does anybody know how the custom map I think from Red Bull Battlegrounds 2012 was called?
I think it was 2v2v2v2 and the minerals were all in the middle, there was some crazy worker micro going on.
Would be happy for an answer ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
EDIT: Nevermind I found it, it is "Chaotic Arena"
