It's Not Themed! + Show Spoiler [Important Posts] +
Introduction: Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia.
The game is typically very active, so the thread will get big quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play. I will not compensate for ignorance.
Rules: Cheating: Cheating includes (but is not limited to): 1. Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information. 2. Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town. 3. Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role. 4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles. 5. Posting screenshots of your inbox. 6. Posting or sharing any PM you receive from a host. 7. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip. 8. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts. 9. Betting items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits. 10. Sharing accounts with other players unless cleared by the host in advance. Otherwise, only you may post on your account. 11. Breadcrumbing the specific phrasing of your role PM. Do not compare the phrasing in your role PM to prove your alignment. You can claim the abilities you have, but you can't use the specific phrasing of your role PM. Cheating is not tolerated here. The punishment will be severe.
Posting: Mod Font: This is mod font. It is reserved for moderators. Please do not use it.
Rules specific to this game are also shown in blue text in this thread.
Question Font: This is question font. Use it to ask the moderators questions about the rules. Please do us a favor and read the rules before you ask anything.
Activity: You must post in this thread once per day/night cycle every day while you are alive. If you fail to do so, you will be replaced.
Let this be your warning that I will replace for inactivity that falls under this rule. If you are obviously purposely trying to skirt around this requirement you will be replaced as well. If in doubt, PM me if you will have to be inactive for some time period that exceeds 24 hours. My goal is for no one to be replaced this game. To prove that you have read and understand this, please add "I will not be replaced" to your /in post. Any /in post that does not contain this phrase will not be counted.
Modkills will only occur under very extreme circumstances.
Smurfs:
On April 26 2011 13:22 mikeymoo wrote: Smurfs must PM the host because TL doesn't allow multiple accounts otherwise. If the host is unaware of smurfs, you (and/or your smurf) can be banned for having multiple accounts.
Spam: I don't care if you spam. If you think it will help you win, by all means go ahead. (this is within reasonable limit; if you, for example, create a script that floods the thread, then ofc your ass will be grass and I'll have the weedwhacker)
Editing: Editing is not allowed for any reason. Editing will result in a warning. After that, you will be modkilled. This is the one part of the site where it is okay to be double posting, even triple-posting. While I ask for everybody to post as concisely as possible, post again if you have to edit anything.
Inappropriate posts: If you want to post something insulting or inappropriate and know the TL mods would have a problem with it elsewhere, don't post it here. If you do, a host will warn you or modkill you and request that you be banned from future games. The hosts have the final say on what is inappropriate. If you do not like how someone is talking to you, please PM a host, Flamewheel, or Mig before involving the TL staff. If you are unsatisfied with how the situation is resolved, then you can appeal to the TL staff normally.
Reporting posts: The report button is a nice feature for regular TL, but not for this forum. We prefer to deal with things in house if possible to avoid confusion among the TL staff. If you have a problem with how someone is posting, talk to the host, co-host, Flamewheel, or Mig before using your report button. Please do not use your report button for anything other than inappropriate posts which you feel are not being dealt with adequately.
Ban discussions: Please wait until this game is over to talk about modkills and bans resulting from this game.
Play to win. This means you play your best to help your team win while you are alive and in the game. However, this does not mean that you should try to win by being a jerk to the other players so they all want to quit playing.
This also means that you cannot leave the game without a good reason without a ban. These situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis. PM your host if you need to leave the game.
You have been warned.
Out of thread communication: It is common for mafia (and town circles if PMs are allowed) to use a medium outside of TL such as QuickTopics or IRC to communicate during the game. Please be mindful that other players may be more tech savvy than you and they may attempt impersonate members of your team or attempt to infiltrate your chat. You use these media at your own risk.
Voting rules: 1. Voting is done in this thread. Please keep votes here, and only vote here. Do not PM me your vote. 2. Please vote in the following format: ##Vote Qatol. Votes not done in the correct fashion will not be counted. I will update vote counts whenever I get the chance. 3. No conditional voting. 4. You may vote for yourself. You may not vote for anyone dead or outside the game. 5. In the event of a tie the person with the most votes first is lynched. 6. Voting is mandatory. You may NOT abstain. 7. Players may vote for a no-lynch by posting ##vote no-lynch. 8. This game runs on an extended-majority voting system. In other words, the person with the majority of votes (number of players alive divided by 2, plus one) will be lynched at the end of every day. In the case of no majority, a no-lynch will occur.
Signups: This game is open to anyone (with preference for committed and active players). Signups will remain open until (all 13 spots have been filled).
Game-specific rules: Modkills: This game follows the TL Mafia Ban List. If you are modkilled, your punishment will go beyond being eliminated from this game. Please refer to it for questions about your punishment. If you want to use this game to sit out your ban, please PM Flamewheel or post in the Ban List.
Replacements This game uses replacements.
I will make exceptions only on the basis of extraordinary circumstances, but if you are replaced I will request for a 2 game ban. In such circumstances, it is the player's responsibility to find his or her own replacement and I will consider each individual on his or her own merits.
Clues: There are no clues.
PMs PMs are not allowed in this game.
Time Cycle: This game will follow a 24 hour night/48 hour day cycle. In case I am not able to post around deadline, any votes after the 48 hour mark will not count and the game will be put on halt until the night post is up. Currently the deadline is 22:00 GMT (+00:00), but that is subject to change. Actions/votes will be accepted up to and including the posted time, but not after.
Credits: Thanks to anyone who has ever hosted a game. This list grows ever longer. Thanks to everyone who helped balance this game.
If you have not read all the rules, go back and do so. I will not compensate for ignorance.

Setup Information
Overview:
The setup is a semi-open setup for 13 players; that is, all the possible roles are given but the number of each is not known. Not all of the roles will necessarily be present. Some of the roles may have limits on the number of times they may be used. This will be specified in the role PM. The game is inherently balanced for both sides depending on the types and numbers of roles that appear. The mafia win when they outnumber the town or they reach a scenario when this becomes inevitable. Town wins by eliminating all mafia members. Mafia kill power is always 1. Assuming I don't get lazy the PMs will be in starcraft flavor. You'll all be little RTS units!
Well, almost all of you.
Terran/Town Roles
Marine (Vanilla Town) + Show Spoiler [possible role PM] +You are a simpleton marine. Your job is to rid the planet of all aliens, but you're a pussy marine so all you can do is huddle with the other marines. To start with, you have to eliminate the intruders into your base camp who are picking you off one by one. Most of them are disguised as fellow Terrans! You can vote to kill one "person" per day. You're also seriously badass.
Infested Terran (Miller) + Show Spoiler [possible role PM] +You are an infested Terran, but you retain your mind and body. You look completely normal on the outside but you have a parasite from a recent Zerg bite. You know about this, and so appear alien to all investigative checks. You have one vote and win with the Terrans, by killing all the aliens. That way you can hopefully find a cure for yourself.
Marine Squadleader/Coleader (Mason) + Show Spoiler [possible role PM] +You are an officer along with (playername here). You are both Terrans. You may communicate with each other privately by any means you wish; a QT has been provided for you at (linkhere). You win with the Terrans when all alien members have been put under the ground.
Scientist (Cop) + Show Spoiler [possible role PM] +You're a stud nerd. As such, you may check one person (once/every night) with the xenomorph scanner and you will receive back either alien or Terran.. You may vote once per day and win when you have eliminated all the infesting aliens.
Quarantine Officer (Jailkeeper) + Show Spoiler [possible role PM] +You're infatuated with locking people up and throwing away the key. As a crazed quarantine officer, you have the power to lock someone away and then molest them. You may choose one person to jail (one night/every night) and you will protect them from 1 KP and stop them from performing any actions, including night kills. Neither you nor your target will be informed of successful hit blocks. You may vote once per day and your goal is to rid the base of the aliens who wrecked your vulture.
Neutralizer (Roleblocker) + Show Spoiler [possible role PM] + Thus, (once at/every) night you will be able to shoot your target in the neck with a paralyzing dart, preventing them from doing anything or going anywhere until the crack of dawn. Your target will wake up the next morning not knowing what happened, but at the very least will be aware that he got nothing worthwhile accomplished.
Ghost (Vigilante) + Show Spoiler [possible role PM] + As one of the elite few, you've been dispatched to this planet under a very covert and special mission. However, this mission cannot continue until you are ensured that there are no aliens amongst you. You must kill them all. You have a high powered psionic sniper rifle with X bullets and you may shoot if you so wish at night. You are never refunded a bullet under any circumstances. You win when all the aliens have ceased to breathe.
Zerg (Mafia) Roles
Zergling (Goon) + Show Spoiler [possible role PM] +OJadklshglATH;kjadsblkiDYSRLTJ QT link: (here) ASD:LJASLHGgnad;f: (player names here)
Hydralisk (Roleblocker) + Show Spoiler [possible role PM] +DON'T YOU GET IT, STUPID TERRAN? YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND ZERG SPEECH
BLARGHARgAHRAGRARHGARGH
Overlord (Godfather) + Show Spoiler [possible role PM] + more unintelligible Zergtalk
Defiler (Framer) + Show Spoiler [possible role PM] +
Third Party Roles
Zealot/Dark Templar (Serial Killer)
+ Show Spoiler [possible role PM] +En Taro Adun, <playername>
The stars have aligned on this night for the cleansing to commence. You must go forth and rid the base to the northeast of the alien menace. The Terrans may yet be conniving and persuasive in allowing you to spare them, but you must listen to them not. Spare none. Remember that the cleansing must take place over a period of days. To cleanse more than one life force per night will defeat the purpose of the ritual.
We have crafted a specifically designed uniform for you if you decide to go openly. It will make you prominently visible, but you will be protected from grievous harm at least initially. Otherwise if you choose to go with the old ways, with what you know, you will be as silent and dark as the shadows. Make your choice.
(you may choose one shot bulletproof passive ability or passive investigative immunity. You may kill one target per night. You win when you are the only one left alive or there is nothing stopping this from occurring.)
Notes
If two roleblockers target each other, they are both informed.
Masons who are roleblocked will not be prevented from communicating with their partner(s).
Masons are confirmed town to each other.
One person on the mafia team may carry out the kill each night. The mafia can choose not to kill. The mafia can kill each other. If the mafia member chosen to kill on a particular night is roleblocked, no kill will occur.
Millers are self-aware.
There are no hit notifications in this game.
All roleblocks will result in the target being notified.
If a serial killer is present he/she will be able to choose between investigation immunity and one shot bulletproof when the roles go out and before day 1 starts. If no choice is sent in then I will flip a coin and choose for the player.

One thing, the vigi role pm says you have 'X bullets.'
Intentional.
Vigis can have 1, 2, or unlimited bullets.
On July 12 2012 04:09 austinmcc wrote: Can we know what system you're using to roll the setup?
It's loosely based on this:
Click for C9++ Wiki page
However many of the roll chances have been modified to reflect the strength of town usage of power roles on TL being greater than on mafiascum. I.E, the chances for vigilante and mason in particular are drastically reduced while the chance for roleblocker is increased.
Also the mafia determiner has been changed to include framers and reduces the possibility of a 2 man scumteam (though that is still possible)
At some point if I am convinced that my determiner is balanced I will release it. However I've been tweaking it game to game and examining all the setups that it generates. Luckily I haven't had to throw one out yet so chances are strong that almost any version of the randomizer I've used is reasonably balanced. I just want to find the most balanced one for use on TL.
If there are any questions about the setup, they may either be PMed to me or posted in the thread in bold green text
There will be post-game analysis and potentially other types of recognition from me. Stick around after the game is over if you want to do the post-game discussionings.

Player List
In the case of high demand, I will consider a randomized system to pick from the signups, pending approval. Thus, sign up as you will and I will announce how the slots will be assigned in a day or two. The only preference will be given to players who are not playing in other games concurrently. Otherwise, everyone will have the same chance of getting a slot regardless of when the /in is put forth (pending approval).

/in I will not be replaced
Regarding the SK role: If you select the survive 1 KP option, is your check return always the same value or is it random? Does Lynching count as 1 KP or would that kill the SK regardless of option selected? Does town have to eliminate the SK for victory? (Since he could potentially keep killing people and win.)
|
SK who chooses 1 shot BP will always return "guilty" to checks, whereas an investigation immune will return innocent
Lynching does not count as KP, a lynch will kill anyone in one shot.
Town has to eliminate all non-town, including SK.
(this is all assuming SK is even in the game, I haven't rolled the setup yet)

It would be awesome if I was SK this time around Although I still need a lot of work to my town play so more games where I can improve it are better. I guess being scum is not that bad, it's just a little bit more stressful but you waste less time (than if you were town), so it wouldn't bother me (I don't really need to improve my scum play that much though....although it's been some games since I was scum so I don't have to lose practice >_> )
Well, let's see, whatever I get it will be awesome anyways (since it's a mini and mini's are awesome)
If I'm town I better have a blue role though > : ( (I'm never blue when town....and when I am the VT roles are better )

gonzaw, even not in-game you talk a lot <3
Edit: also, of course I will not be replaced!

I'm glad the signups are actually still progressing relatively quickly given the number of ongoing games.
Bodes well for the state of mafia right now
