You grab your rifle and head over to l10f's room. You could see it in his eyes throughout the whole day. He wasn't human anymore. Whatever he was wouldn't matter much longer because you were gonna blast its brains all over the walls. You knock on his door. There is a slight pause and he then opens it. You're not gonna give him a chance. You kick his face in and enter the room, slamming the door behind you.

You pull the rifle up to his face. He begins to plead with you but you won't have any of it. You press it closer to his temple. His eyes change shape and color. They become long and black. The flesh melts off his body and he stands taller before you now. Jesus. He must be at least nine feet tall.

He is a huge creature with a dark green and red shell. Three spikes protrude from his chest, changing size and sliding slowly in and out of his ribs. His head looks like a huge green human skull, with eyes that wrap all the way around the side of his head. You feel afraid, but you're not gonna give up now.

One of the spikes shoots out from his chest and hits your gun out of your hand. You roll out of the way and grab it again. Its face isn't more than one foot away from yours with a horrible maw open wide, revealing five rows of teeth that twist and turn like small drills. You lift the rifle up and pull the trigger, blasting the creatures skull apart. It lets out a loud shriek.

You wipe the blood off your face and return to your room. When you wake up your rifle is out on the desk. There is a note attached to it.

"I upgraded this thing for you. It can shoot once now, but it's loud as hell now."

In the void of space, loneliness and paranoia are commonplace. The Antioch is suspended above the planet known by researchers as Selecuia. The research mission on alien archaeobacteria and flora was your ticket to academic fame. But abruptly, the stations navigation and communication systems begun to fail as an unknown biomass started to form around the stations walls and computers. You've lost track of time. Has it been just weeks now? There was an initial pang of excitement, that perhaps the introduction of an unknown living substance would be just the discovery that brought fame knocking at your door.

You didn't know it was malicious, until bodies began turning up covered in the thick red paste of the biomass that is now so commonplace. Thick red spiderwebs of flesh hang from the ceilings and crawl along the doors. Trapped in the void of space, feeling like a fly caught in the web of a spider, your dreams of fame are just a distant light lost in the endless black that surrounds you.

Deaths are getting more common. One of the station cooks was found dead in the center of the crew quarters. His limbs were detached and nailed to the walls by fleshy red spikes and his eyes removed. Judging from the wounds, his eyes were bored through with a drill of some sort. The brutality is calculated. Something or someone intelligent is behind this.

Last night, you were called to a meeting of the crew. It has been agreed that a murderer, perhaps several, exist among the group of you. Moral fibers, transformed by the fear and loneliness of the void, have become moral wisps. It had been decided that one of the crew will be ejected into empty space each day. The deaths will stop by any means necessary and if the innocent aren't killed by the crew, the threat will reach them in due time.

You sleep with some confidence tonight. Hidden in your locker is a plasma rifle you managed to take out of storage before the biomass completely webbed the door shut. You're no space marine, but you're a decent shot. All that training killing rats with your dads plasma pistol back home might pay off.
