Day 2 Puzzle solution Two things are very important in the day post. The inscription (Revelation 6:8) and the filename of the image (findthecreators profile). People figured out quickly this means my profile which contains a link to my blog and the word MPHSTPHLS. This will be important later. ![]() Are you looking for something Clicking "are you looking for something leads here. ![]() gossipgeisha.tumblr.com/dead The 8th D contains a link to a pastebin. Also relevant is the clue below. what are the numbers where you read it there is NOTHING to find here. The numbers were you read it are 6:8. The inscription is Revelation 6:8, so this is signifying the significance of those numbers. NOTHING is a clue that is relevant later. But going to http://gossipgeisha.tumblr.com/nothing provides an additional clue. So the pastebin is where everyone was stuck. falltoyourknees 1 dontlookback 2 getoutwhileyoucan 3 itsnotsafe 4 stop 5 runand 6 youwill 7 prayformercy 8 you will find the URL The numbers you need. 6 and 8. Combines to create runandprayformercy. This is not the solution. Look at the bottom. "you will find the URL". this is a URL for another tumblr. runandprayformercy.tumblr.com ![]() A password? Ah. Well I imagined people would try things such as "death" "palehorse" "runandprayformercy" "nothing" etc. However the keyphrase is indeed....MPHSTPHLS, the cryptic and seemingly irrelevant phrase in my profile. ![]() It is the same business here is the clue. What did we do on the last blog? We went to /dead, so we do the same here. ![]() When referring to numbers we know we are talking about the verse of the inscription. Going back by three takes us from revelation 6:8 to revelation 6:5 which describes the SCALES that is held by the rider of famine. That is what he is holding. So we go to /scales ![]() A mediafire link! Download the song. http://www.mediafire.com/?4n97gu4d3l0tcpk DIDYOUFINDNOTHING.MP3 At this point the player is supposed to recall the reference to nothing on the first blog and go to the /nothing page which tells you to look closer at the music. The ID3 tags of the song contain the solution, HELEL spelled in a simple alphabet code. Perhaps that was a bit too much...haha

That's like Notpron level stuff, and each Notpron level took me like a week or so to solve after the easy stuff. In this game, solving puzzles and riddles will be vital to the parties progress. This is not a typical game of mafia. It's a mafia game, but people signing up already knew that there would be a strong emphasis on riddles and puzzles. I don't see too much wrong with that. :p It's also funny, because I actually had the first two puzzles mostly solved. I had a notebook I brought camping with me, and it probably looks pretty weird if you didn't know what it was for, because the first page is full of codes and stuff, haha. I had "Inno a", but didn't know what to do with it, because I couldn't really search stuff easily, and then I did the second one with just LvithN instead of Leviathan.

I think the difficulty level might have ramped up a little too quickly though, it went from simple cyphers to extremely complex url hunts, I suggest increasing the difficulty more gradually, especially with limited time/tries to solve the puzzles. (I will be... upset... if I haven't made the time to play mafia by the time Haunted rolls around)

The sick stench of blood and gore pervades the halls as our assailants seek us out. Entering this castle was our worst mistake, for we had entered into the seventh circle of Hell itself. My companions stare wild eyed, some unbelieving that I would take the time to write this piece in our short reprieve. We hide now in one of the rooms, but there is no way out. We are trapped, the sounds of the beasts prowling outside more terrifying than anything I could have imagined. And I harbor a secret from my companions. The small bite on my thigh, hidden carefully from view. What I first dismissed as merely a glancing wound seems to be so much more. I can feel my blood clot as it thickens, and half my teeth have already sharpened to fangs. Thoughts of cannibalism enter my head unbidden and lately it has been ever harder to dismiss these thoughts. But I suppose it couldn’t be considered cannibalism anymore; I am no longer sure I am even human. The urge rises but only my writing can distract me. But it is becoming so hard…so hard…just a bite can’t hurt. Just a taste of that sweet flesh. I thirst. I hunger. I can resist no more…but I must, I must, I must, I MUST, I MU To try to get everyone to lynch Coagulation. Blood clot = Coagulation get it? Ha ha ha... kitaman didn't even post it. Grrrrrr. lol sorry. I actually didn't catch on to the blood clot clue. I just figured it was flavor text hinting at a second vampire themed recruiting role. I didn't want to post anything immediately because the only thing that would do would discredit any of the people who came out looking pro-town after the day one lynch. Instead I was going to wait and see if anyone had a drastic change in playing style or happened to mention a vampire related role. Also, apologies for trying to get you killed last minute. However, it was clearly just a ploy to trick bum into outing himself as scum :p Thanks for hosting DrH. Looking forward to the real thing ^_^

Survey What did you like most about the game? What did you like least about the game? If you could remove something from the real haunted game, what would it be? If you could add something to the real haunted game, what would it be? Do you think this game was imbalanced in favor of town or mafia? Were the puzzles too easy or too difficult? I didn't really like how difficult the puzzles ramped up to be. They were reasonably easy day 1, but made the jump to unsolvable far too quickly. I'd remove the weak mason because I don't see a real use for it, despite it being a great opportunity to roleplay. either that or Jaedong dying. That was a little too intense for me I'm not sure if I'd add anything, actually. If anything, possibly an item which can cause one to become corrupted (making them scum) if used too much. that'd be cool and fit the theme well. I think it's relatively balanced, as long as there aren't too many blues (ppl with items). Were all items used? Puzzles were good except for the last one.

What did you like least about the game? Having to scumhunt, I know its a game of mafia, but I have difficulty focusing on two things at once, I can either find mafia or solve puzzles, not both, and I found I had no reads because I was more interested in guessing possible urls than in figuring out people's alignments If you could remove something from the real haunted game, what would it be? Recruiting mechanics, just have peoples alignments be predetermined, having one player pick his team seems sort of unfair, I can only imagine what would happen in the real game when the mafia team consisted of BC, RoL, Ace and LSB If you could add something to the real haunted game, what would it be? PM's. I feel like people being able to discuss the puzzles privately would be a *huge* addition Do you think this game was imbalanced in favor of town or mafia? Honestly not sure, leaning town, as I feel that they may have had a little too many PRs, but that could be in part influenced by their loss of the Cult leader day 1 Were the puzzles too easy or too difficult? too easy at first then too hard in the end, a better balance between the complexities would have been helpful, or more time to solve the puzzles Additional Comments: <3 awesome idea, and I'll be sure to play in haunted ^_^

On August 09 2011 07:59 DoctorHelvetica wrote: What did you like most about the game? The flavor text was probably the best I've ever seen in a mafia game here. Great job with that! The puzzles were fun and the second one was definitely challenging. What did you like least about the game? It ended too quickly ![]() If you could remove something from the real haunted game, what would it be? One problem with the puzzles was that it completely shut down discussion for actual scum hunting. It worked out in the end for town, but the day one lynch results would have been a nightmare if Amber flipped town. Arguably, discussing the puzzles could be considered a mafia tactic, but perhaps removing the puzzles from the day phase, and instead putting them in a puzzle/night phase would make it seem more like a mafia game. If you could add something to the real haunted game, what would it be? If you plan to continue the theme with the items, maybe more variety than the standard medic, vig, dt roles. Also, needs more Vampires :p Do you think this game was imbalanced in favor of town or mafia? Clearly imba for town since we had Meapak. I liked that both scum was recruited on night zero. The biggest problem with recruiting-like roles seems to be that its much more difficult to scum hunt when the player thinks they are town for the first half of the game. It also is more of a headache when your most pro-town player could likely end up as scum the following cycle. Were the puzzles too easy or too difficult? The biggest problem was it was sometimes difficult to tell what was being asked. For example, with the leviathan puzzle it wasn't really clear that a number solution was needed, but maybe that was the intention. The second harder puzzle was interesting, but it seems like everyone got stuck at the same point. Something like the puzzle clue item might come in handy as a safeguard against a complete standstill. Additional Comments: Ty. It was fun ^_^

What did you like most about the game? The day/night posts. They were very well written and I thoroughly enjoyed reading them. The puzzles were also a lot of fun to think about even though I weren't in the game. What did you like least about the game? - If you could remove something from the real haunted game, what would it be? The weak mason mechanic. I don't think it serves any purpose. Also, I kind of agree with GM that the recruiting function can be a bit imbalanced, but I still think it fits the game theme very good so I don't know if I'd like to have it removed. If you could add something to the real haunted game, what would it be? - Do you think this game was imbalanced in favor of town or mafia? I won't comment on this one since I don't know jack shit about setup balance. Were the puzzles too easy or too difficult? The last puzzle (with the pastebin and all that) was too hard in my opinion. The other ones were okay (or perhaps a bit too easy).

I liked the fact that we all got separate flavor pms. What did you like least about the game? I don't really like recruitment as a mechanic tbh. The problem was that people were recruited n0, so it was obvious recruiter would have just recruited the best players :/ If you could remove something from the real haunted game, what would it be? recruitment. If you could add something to the real haunted game, what would it be? maybe add clues to the pms we all get, so as a town we have to combine our pms to solve the puzzles. Do you think this game was imbalanced in favor of town or mafia? It was fine, I just think it hurt losing High priest day 1. Were the puzzles too easy or too difficult? The First puzzle was perfect. As the game progresses I think puzzles should get harder. Day 2 puzzle would have been good for day 3/4 in a small game, but the learning curve was too high. In a larger game obv puzzles should be more difficult from the beginning. Additional Comments: Sucks that scum got so owned was looking forward to more flavor text/puzzles.

What did you like least about the game? YOUR GODAMN BLOG. Please put a NSFW warning next time, I opened your blog to your gory background in class and was lucky as hell I happened to be sitting in the back row. If you could remove something from the real haunted game, what would it be? Once again NSFW pictures or put a warning if you have to use them. If you could add something to the real haunted game, what would it be? Longer days. It's very hard to put your attention on clue solving and scum hunting at the same time, especially if everyone is just discussing clues. Maybe make 48 hour deadline to solve the puzzle, after that another 24 hours of day just for discussion. Do you think this game was imbalanced in favor of town or mafia? Fairly balanced I think, Town needs to be a bit stronger than usual because not solving puzzles seems like it'd have bad effects. Were the puzzles too easy or too difficult? I think you really have to judge your player base. If you have a game full of Mr. Wiggleses, you can make them as complex or whatever as you want. With the player base in this game, where half the people didn't even put in effort to solve puzzles, definitely too hard. Additional Comments: Thanks for hosting! Seriously though, NSFW WARNINGS PLZPLZPLZ.
