Zion underperforming and/or bad champion picks like that Blitz support when Morg was still an option for Koo. Everything else like Aphro tilt, Doublelift being overaggressive or midlaner being meh are normal CLG things and wouldn't stop them from making it out of this weak group. Don't want to judge Xmithie because while everyone says he's absolute trash I didn't notice him making game-losing plays constantly.
I also have a theory that Lulu + hypercarry comp was the only one they could play decently but obviously I don't have enough insight to be sure of that. They won 2 games with Lulu and lost 4 games in which Lulu was banned.

They could only play one team comp (surprise, surprise): protect Doublelift. Individual players not failing? Aphro/Zion didn't do shit whole group stage.

The second CLG vs Koo game CLG played terrible as a whole and lost to Tahm basically single-handedly because I don't think they even knew how to combat him. The BotRK is fine on Trist, but not as a first item. If Doublelift got it second or third (with first item being IE) then I'd be ok with it because it would let him cut through the tanks on Koo a bit easier, including Tahm.
On a whole I think they just tilted hardcore after the Koo game, and after losing to the Flash Wolves they were just so far gone it would've taken a miracle for them to recover.
They had 3 chances to get out of the group, right? Win any of those 3 games and at worst they force a tie-breaker fight? To me that seems like a team failing due to pressure and tilting than anything else.
I do agree in that they only knew how to play 1 strategy well enough (the early turret-taking hypercarry one), but I think they just tunneled onto that one because they weren't willing to risk their tournament lives on an un-tested strategy (or not wanting to show anything during group stages), and by the time they did decide to shake it up it was too late.
CLG wasn't great even in first week. They got rekt twice against KOO and should've lost both games vs FW, even if they advanced, it wouldn't be better than C9/TSM last year. Tilt or not but when you're losing without standing a chance to like worst CN/KR representative twice in a row and then can only scrap wins while playing Lulu, welp, why are you even here.
At least, it's a good wake-up call and if anything changed in CLG besides results in domestic competition for once, they should react.

They weren't impressive in first week either. Pain: whatever, FW: Kkramer lost solo game, KOO: giant stomp. They aren't good team, it's simple.

NA as a whole could learn a lot from this Worlds, even more-so than the other two, if only because it helps show teams/organizations (in all regions) that you need both strong players and good communication to have a decent shot at Worlds (I'm looking at you, China).
CLG and TSM are in similar situations (strong players, weak team fight/communication) and C9 is the last chance NA has of getting out of group stages at Worlds simply off the back of Hai's shotcalling (arguably top 3 shot caller in the history of League), Incarnation being dunked/forged in the fires of Worlds during his first split, and Sneaky playing out of his god damn mind.

Only 'strong player' on CLG/TSM is Bjergsen right now. Rest aren't even top 5 in their roles in the West.

Communication is overrated, Starhorn says hello, even if they hold 1-6 record against Korean teams. And idk where is it coming from, but Incarnati0n is literally main carry of C9 for last 1,5 months.
Such a shame CLG couldn't do it. I know there are legit reasons why it's a good thing. It's just disappointing. I know the chances were low anyways, but it sucks to have them lose in the way they did. I just wanted them to at least give us some good games. A lot of their plays/decisions were horrendous, and I don't believe any of the players actually played up to their level. They didn't even seem like they had any team work going into it. I wonder what caused them to play that out of sync with each other.
I expected better from them but I also criminally underrated Flash Wolves (apparently) so it makes sense to me they'd go 3rd/4th. Not like they beat a very good team in NA finals either, when was their actual last truly competitive game before today?
and how many games has flame played professionally the last 6 months lulz, they're going to still get dumpstered

It really baffles me that riot decided to finish the groups one a day now. It is WAY less interesting, i have no idea why you would do that (and it's worse for the teams as well)
Makes it easier to have a story for that day.
Well i think it reduces the storyline actually. Right now we wanna know what TSM, Origen, Fnatic and Cloud 9 can do. If we would get a match of these teams each day it would be a lot more interesting imo. But yeah i dislike the whole system quite a lot, so maybe that's just me..
My understanding was that they do the entire group in a day so this way scheduling becomes easier if there are any tiebreakers to be played.
This year's format is by far the best format we've ever had for a Riot tournament. Second only to IPL 5 imo.

It's not about world class players for me. At least not entirely. It's about seeing these players get better/ show good quality games because they should at least be able to do that. They were almost showing it leading up to Worlds, and then they fell apart again as soon as Worlds started. Even if their individual skills are lacking, they should be able to make up for it by team coordination. None of that happened. It was just same old CLG today, and it was disappointing. So so many teamfighting issues. They just seemed ridiculously disjointed with each other today. Even last week was better than how they played today. Which is saying a lot considering they didn't look entirely good last week.
kinda want flame to come in now and just wreck everyone and go on a super run :3 sad thing is they are sooo far behind. Well kt needs to drop games and they are probably the most consistent in that group.
problem is this doesn't solve pick/ban. macro play.
it does solve acorns terrible teleports (hopefully) maybe raise team morale someone other than imp doing everything
which means they still not beating Kt and probably OG.
on clg: Seems like aphro went missing today. Was just getting hit by everything and making mechanical errors. All these teams will probably lose to whoever they get in the quarters though outside of maybe group B. The scary thing is c9 are also have a real possibility of falling apart in the second half. Difference is they have to go 0-3 to not qualify.
