I'm really curious why this scheduling is done this way. What's so good about having all of a group get their matches out of the way in one day? Is it so that they can prepare for the next part of the World championship with more time? It will be a real gauntlet/challenge for these teams. We might even see a team tilt/crumble during the process. It may be entertaining for the viewers, but it MUST be ridiculously difficult/stressful for the teams/players

Viewership numbers. If they continue the schedule as in the first week, then the later days would contain more meaningless matches and they would get bad viewership.
By doing it group by group, it makes every day exciting.

It's also so they can organize tiebreakers easier. Lumping all the potential tiebreakers into one last day in the worst case scenario can drag out times to ridiculous lengths, not to mention if there's more than two teams involved in a tiebreaker to boot. Not only that, times to rent venues only go so long so in the worst case scenario, if every group has a tiebreaker, then it's better to have them hosted after each group's respective day instead of all at once in the final day.

Would be a chaotic clusterfuck otherwise.

On another note, I also wouldn't be surprised if in Days 5-8, a complete turnabout from the first days of groups happens and the Chinese teams start dominating again and Origen/C9 suddenly implode. Seems like a possibility just due to the extended time to rebound between the two stages.

LGD is essentially out of the tournament. OR nead to beat only TSM to be ahead of them and I don't think KT can go worse than 2-1 the 2nd week. If miracle happens they will be tied to go out of group. The best they can do is scrim with EDG and iG for their benefit.

iG is - on paper - in slightly better spot but I still think they C9 should at worst squeeze through while Fnatic looked stronger so far.

EDG of course will be at least 2nd but their group is fairly clearcut.

It woudl be extremely funny if Fnatic, ahq and iG would finish 2nd round robin with 2-0. That would be 4 way tie 3-3 and tiebreak would be madness.

That wasn't fun. This will be fun:

CLG < KOO
pain > Flash
KOO > pain
CLG > Flash
KOO > Flash
pain > CLG

This will end up with
1. KOO 5-1
2. pain 3-3
2. CLG 3-3
4. Flash 1-5

re: edg sandbagging, that word is pretty loaded and stretches what they did too far.

what they did was not specifically preparing for that game, and not studying their scrims with western teams enough to figure out the laneswap and dragon stuff.

neither constitutes sandbagging in the exaggerated sense the word is often used.

in this light they just were not very prepared, generously this does not indicate one way or another about their later adaptations. but to be sure they did not gain any advantage from losing in this way. what they gained was stuff skt already knew, namely the laneswap and dragon stuff.

as for players twitter responses, entirely fluff.

I think all the group B results will repeat themselves, except KOO will win against FW this time, so:

KOO 5-1
CLG 4-2
Pain 2-4
FW 1-5

I'm wondering if I shouldn't just blindly say the blue side will win, since doing that in Week 1 would have been better than actually trying to predict the outcomes. Blue seems stupidly OP in this tournament with a 66 percent win rate (and that's even with the BKT-SKT/H2K-EDG slaughters bringing the statistic down).

So fuck it, I'm going blue for all potentially close matches:

CLG > KOO

FW > Pain

KOO > Pain

FW < CLG

KOO > FW

Pain < CLG

KOO 1st and CLG 2nd seems more likely, but a tie between CLG and FlashWolves would be cool too

Why wouldn't tie between CLG and Pain or Pain and Flash wolves be cool? I mean Pain Gaming are underdogs who are not out of the tournament yet.

According to this: http://www.thescoreesports.com/lol/news/4215, the Chinese teams - besides EDG - are failing because they have bad practice culture, eg Rookie and Kakao were on vacation in Korea before worlds, and I've also heard separately that Imp and Acorn also weren't practicing that much.

But then again it's from a LPL talk person and we all know how they rated China before the tournament.

This tournament pretty much confirms that xPeke is the all time greatest among the greatest three EU mids. The skill ceiling is higher compared to past, and xPeke is still performing on this level.

In other hand, Froggen cant go further than 7th place in LCS, and AlexIch is just back to LCS in NA l o l.

Why are you equating individual performance with team performance? Xpeke is showing up but then bashing Froggen and Alex based on their team placing seems rather dumb.

I feel like the China proponents are the biggest homers. Talk up the region constantly, come up with a million excuses if they don't live up to the hype. Namei, LGD, IG.... there's more excuses here than CLG at their peak of excuse making and when Link wrote his manifesto combined.

I mean Froggen cant even perform likes against SK when it matters. Do you really think that he'd perform at Worlds against Nagne, godv and Bjergsen? l o l.

If you actually want to watch good individual performance, watch pre-MSI Bjergsen.
