'The team that wins the mid season invitational will stand alone in the spotlight for the rest of the year' No, they won't. 'If TSM is able to get Bjergsen going they will be able to crush the competition' No, they won't. 'The EU LCS is defined by it's ability to develop long lasting superstars' That's why the split's best performers were rookies. 'The LCK is surgical, clinical and unforgiving' I don't even know what this is supposed to mean. 'The team that wins the mid season invitational will stand alone in the spotlight for the rest of the year' This is the most significant and most visible international tourney until worlds. The best teams from each region are there. The format is such that we can definitively call the winner the best team in the world and we'll likely refer to this tourney whenever gauging international strength at least until worlds rolls around. That's what the spotlight means. Nothing wrong with this. 'If TSM is able to get Bjergsen going they will be able to crush the competition' Riv put the emphasis on 'will' which makes this sound a little too strong, but otherwise its a perfectly fine statement. The point of power for most of the best teams at this tournament is the mid-lane. If TSM can put Bjergsen ahead against the likes of Faker and Pawn then it definitely opens up an opportunity for TSM to win. Obviously EDG doesn't *need* Pawn to win, and lately SKT has gotten a lot of power from Bang, but Riv said "will be able" which implies the opportunity to win, not something like "going to" which implies certainty. Nothing wrong with this. 'The EU LCS is defined by it's ability to develop long lasting superstars' Accompanied by a shot of Yellowstar, one of League's longest lasting superstars. Nothing wrong with this. 'The LCK is surgical, clinical and unforgiving' It means they're precise, play a good strategic game, are excellent at closing games and will punish nearly every mistake. It's not cryptic in any way. Nothing wrong with this. The problem isn't the hype quotes The problem is the closeup of Quiksh0t's ugly mug.

It's easy to say that certain players looks dominant in the competitive region they play, but it means nothing when the level of their competition isn't high. The representatives at IEM aren't close to being the same as the ones at MSI. I'm looking forwards to EDG vs SKT - I'm really interested to see how the laners match up. The level of competition in Korea has definitely decreased, but by how much? And which local teamfighting style will come out on top? The lineup of MSI is literally the same as the one as IEM plus the number 1 Chinese team instead of WE. The fact that so much talent left Korea has already and will continue to prove pretty fucking devastating. It's the main reason I'm so confident that they won't win MSI. I'm not even sure what "teamfighting style" means, they are playing the same game guys, it's not martial arts. Your argument works only insofar as raw talent is what decides success in eSports - in which case, the loss of 80% of LCK's best players to other regions ought to create a devastating loss in competitiveness - eventually. But there are other explanations. Quoting myself from another thread: A few hypotheses to keep in mind: H1. Korea's eSports infrastructure is what keeps Koreans ahead in eSports. Projected outcome: LCK ~ LPL at MSI, LCK > LPL at Worlds, with previously second-tier/third-tier Korean players trumping the Chinese imports by the end of Summer. On average, the Chinese imports' skill level drops and eventually converges to the Chinese average the longer they stay in the scene, such that by the end of 2016, there is little difference between all-CN and CN+KR teams. H2. Raw talent/not exportable culture, to a greater degree than infrastructure, is responsible for Korea's success. Projected outcome: LCK ~ LPL at MSI, LCK < LPL at Worlds, due to SKT being the only team with talent equivalent to those on LPL teams. The tier 1 Korean players eg Deft, Imp, Pawn, etc. end up dumpstering the tier 2/tier 3 Korean players in LCK, while at the same time staying ahead of their Chinese teammates. There is a permanent and insurmountable skill difference between the CN+KR teams and the all-CN teams. H3. Exportable culture is responsible for Korea's success, to a greater degree than both talent and infrastructure. Projected outcome: LCK ~ LPL at MSI, LCK ~ LPL at Worlds, due to both regions converging to the same exportable cultural attitude towards eSports as a result of LPL importing Korean work ethic & coaching. In this scenario, Chinese players on CN+KR teams, especially those with Korean coaches, gradually improve to tier 1 LCK level, and there is no longer a skill disparity between them. The smoking gun for this hypothesis is an all-CN team with a Korean coach becoming the best team in LPL. For eSports theorists, exciting times are ahead. Also, MSI isn't the best avenue for testing, because while LCK lost a lot of top talent, they still had enough stay-behinds to make 1-2 top-tier teams. MSI only has the best team from each region, which isn't affected to the same degree by quantitative loss.

If anything, TSM vs. Fnatic is gonna be much more interesting and will stir up some shit no matter who wins. TSM is in an upswing, Fnatic/EU in general seems to have headed down. EUvNA at the moment is so heavily NA-sided objectively at the moment that TSM winning won't be a surprise. Of course, if Fnatic wins, hell yeah, shitstorm for days. SKT and TSM are rivals because they're converging (TSM headed up, SKT/Korea headed down is the consensus at the moment) and Bjerg has an unkillable hype machine. SKTvTSMvEDG is this tournament's only storyline unless Fnatic makes something happen out of nowhere.
