I started playing around dreamhack and found the commentators really informative and helpful, but even now after only 6 months you can really tell the difference when a player does it. Ocelote at Cologne was good, Chaox doing the CLG RS king of the hill match (mainly the third game( was absolutely incredible.
If anyone is a football fan, it is like listening to a post match summery from Jonathan Wilson or Michael Cox compared to alan shearer. The later says what you can see, the former say what is behind what you can see. http://www.solomid.net/videoplayer.php?v=768
People who play are usually more than competent at following the action, map awareness and suchlike. Hence people like the more in depth stuff. The balance would probably be one play by play commentator, joe and deman for clarity, phreak and zenon for their enthusiasm (I dislike rivingtons commentary so I will leave him out). Then a competitive level player for analysis.

iem, why are you still reruning? :C

pro american rules football uses 1 player and 1 color commentator or 1 coach and 1 color commentator for most of the games, except MNF which uses 1 coach, 1 player and 1 color commentator.
the pregame and halftime shows have mostly players and coaches with a few other guys who are good broadcasters who tend to moderate the discussion.
NFL football has more money to blow in a week than all of progaming has spent over the last decade. They literally can have anyone they want and that is what they chose to do.
of course there are some stinkers there too. I guess the football equivalent of phreak is John Gruden.
watching IEM reminds me very effectively why I want dota 2 to come out soon though. these matches are stale and for the most part uneventful and the only time you see lots of people dying is like sk vs clg game 2 last night where CLG just gave up.
I hope that having a game that can actually compete with LoL for player base and prize money will push Riot to focus more on the competitive side and quit removing every mechanic that makes baddies cry. It should also push them to get the basic **** we've needed for so long like replays, spectator mode, more bans in solo queue and stop making a new champion every 3 week so they can sell 2 skin bundles.

Check out fnatic games - bodies were pileing up since like 3 minute mark.
And about new champion picks in tournaments - i think it's good sign that they are not overused. Only way brand new champion can be very popular in tournaments is by being overpowered as fuck.
Situation when some of them are started to be picked is optimal. Would you really prefer new champs to be just better than old ones so everyone who wants to be competetive has to buy every new champ? That d be worst case scenario imo.

About to go live with sypher vs clg.
Honestly? I think CLG have this. I want Sypher to win but I don't know if they got what it takes.
As for the caster discussion (and thanks for the kind words ), we are moving toward Replays. A LOT of the work we've done for spec mode got us very close to replays. Let's get spec live and then focus on replays.
Personally, my skill level is going to drop SO MUCH once replays go live. I'll just be watching stuff all day long ;P

Stream started, interview with someone from Sypher now, didn't catch his name.

Pyrii. Also the chat on twitch is atrocious just insulting the guy for speaking something over than his native language. Rather disgusting.

God, if I was interviewing a player, I'd always want it to be Elementz. There's no better interview partner than him, really.
|
Lol @ both Elementz and the caster not remembering Rocksolid/Dignitas

Jiji was on Ashe and Chauster was on Kennen before Sypher.Skyart dropped out. Eh?
|
I can see this going either way. Sypher has a ton of stuns to protect Kog'Maw, but CLG has Ashe, Kennen, and Nidalee to go destroy him.
