So I was looking at it. I wanted to find the numbers of rushing both of these items on AP Ezreal. Here are my numbers:
Base 58 AP(Masteries, Doran's Ring, and Runes)
Lv9 Ezreal (Q-Lv1, W-Lv5, E-Lv2, R-Lv1)
LICH BANE (3000G)
138 AP
Q Damage: 160Phsyical, 134Magical(Lich Bane and Arcane Blade(Mastery), 294Total
W Damage: 360Magical
E Damage: 229Magical
R Damage: 474Magical
Full Burst: 1197Magical, 160Phsyical, 1357Total
RABADON'S DEATHCAP (3300G)
231 AP
Q Damage: 187Physical, 12Magical(Arcane Blade), 199Total
W Damage: 435Magical
E Damage: 298Magical
R Damage: 558Magical
Full Burst: 1303Magical, 187Pshyical, 1490Total
To note: I understand you lose the ability weaving for Lich Bane's proc. But, is AP Ez really all about that? I believe AP Ezreal is mostly about trying to blow the enemy team up fast as you can.
As you can see, giving up 100damage on your Q, gives you about 100damage on all your other abilities. Giving you more burst and more aoe. Which AP Ezreal is all about.
I'll leave it to you all to see if it's worth or not, for yourself. However, in my opinion: The way AP Ezreal plays he should rush Deathcap then grab Lich Bane. This gives him more bursty kind of style in early team fights, especially around Dragon where his ult can hit the enemy team super hard due to no minions. However, you do lose that mana and movespeed. What do you guys think?

No one besides Fizz should rush Lich Bane imo. It's much better after you get a different AP item, whether that's Morello's or a Deathcap or w/e. As a fellow AP Ezreal player I never rush Lich Bane, typically I go double ring into Deathcap depending on the matchup and how the game is going.

I mainly play AD Ezreal, though I thought about AP Ez's playstyle and wondered why I see so many AP Ezreal's build Lich Bane first. So I ran these numbers.

Usually if you play AP Ezreal you get Sheen->Deathcap->Lich Bane, or Sheen->CDR/mana items->Lich Bane.
Sheen makes your Q relevant and makes farming easier (since W, your primary skill, doesn't damage creeps), and upgrading to a LB isn't useful until after at least 1-2 AP items.

Yeah, I played him a bit and settled on sheen dcap lich as well (I also used to grab tear sometimes but thats worse now). The sheen passive is almost as good as full lichbane in the early game when you have no AP compared to your base AD, and costs 1200g. Early on AP ez is not about blowing people up either, its about farming and surviving until you hit 2 item timing. You are quite weak early and rely on your Q to poke people down into burst range and farm from far to avoid getting blown up until you are stronger.

Double doran ring? I usually find way more success starting out with doran blade and transitioning into sheen ->Deathcap with lucid boots.

@holyinferno I play him a little weird though, I play him like an ap Assassin maxing e after w and leaving q for last.

Thanks for the math, man! AP Ezreal's the only champion I enjoy playing anymore... tested a whole bunch of things. Lately I've been going for Lichbane first, just for the heck of it. It's certainly not bad and I often max Q first even with AP Ezreal.
I also start d-blade first, easier last hits. I can't see a reason why not as the lifesteal is useful all game and it helps with your last hits AND it scales with your ult.
Confession: When I don't get to play Mid, I lie to my team and say I'll go ADC. But then I just play AP Ezreal botlane. I'll throw in a gunblade and nashors to pretend.
Also, I find I really don't need any mana items at all. Anyone else? I'll take Nashors over chalice anyday of the week!

I think sheen is a great first item on AP Ez but I would rather complete some other AP items ( Morello's or Deathcap) before completing the Lich Bane. I think its a great 2nd or third buy on him, but doesn't give you the raw ap damage that ap ez needs.
