Yeah, it was very apparent what Hai's strengths and weaknesses were. I mean Regi retired and TSM didn't bomb like this, actually the opposite. @Sufficiency: kind of two sides of the coin imo. Can't say he wasn't important when C9 imploded without him.

same, maybe not "realize" but I certainly underrated his role and have no problem admitting that I was among the "bench Hai" camp. I still think it's ridiculous that the guy never bothered to learn any zone ap mages when they were meta and at any point of his career had a champion pool or max 3 but to be honest it was hard to see just how crucial his shotcalling was to c9 because all we have is those sounds of the game/Mic check snippets and the people that may have had access to whole voicecomps only came out after his retirement to say that his shotcalling was world class.
Hmm, I recall him playing a little Ori/Gragas/Lulu but it was nothing very memorable, compared to his Zed/Kha'zix. Can't remember if he played anything else of that nature.

I disagree. It's not so much that Hai was important, but that the entire C9 team failed at adapting without him.
I am not saying Hai is not good; but I refuse to believe that he is so important as to be irreplaceable.
It's not about his skill. It seems like C9 was a rather dysfunctional team outside of the game for quite some time now. We have Hai talking about a "strong divide" in the team last season and Link mentioning similar feeling. The team managed to function at a reasonable level in spite of this due to his ingame captaincy. Now without that glue holding them together, all the issues they haven't resolved over the months/year are boiling over.
He's not irreplaceable but the team didn't fix any problems while he was on the roster so once he leaves it all falls apart. I guess in that sense he is "irreplaceable to that C9 team" as he allowed them to kind of ignore the issues.
edit: Some players are just that good due to their captaincy. Legends like Xiao8/Puppey make basically any team they go to world class. LoL may not quite have that yet but the precedence is there in other games.
I love how people like to shit on a team when they're down. It's like beating a dead horse and then they say, 'oh yeah, they were shit players to begin with,' which is ridiculous. It's not even hindsight. There's just very little truth at all in it.
Meteos is a good player. It's a shame things aren't working out and Hai is only a temporary replacement. Nothing more or less.

they were falling apart even with Hai's wrist issues. Just couldn't see see it considering how much worse everyone else was doing.
I mean, we 'know' a few things. Hai micromanaged, Hai didn't carry games, and after he was gone, C9 died. That pretty heavily implies that a lot of the rest of the players' strengths were wrapped up in Hai.

Exactly. When you're doing well, the majority can't say anything to you cause it may seem as mindless hating, but the minute you're down they just strike with this intense viciousness. I feel like Doublelift sums this up so well
I don't really see the hating? One guy called Meteos overrated, rest of discussion was about "the best" vs "one of the best". Balls has legit been awful since last year so it's not like people suddenly saying that when they doing badly, people been saying that when they were in finals.

Who's hating? C9 probably has the least haters out of any lcs team and I'm sure most people are sad that they are so bad now. 1 guy calling meteos overrated is an opinion and he was the best lcs jungler (eu+na) at some point but now he just looks mediocre without any gameplan at all. It begs the question if his dominance was tied to Hai but contradicts statements like Link saying that he wasn't allowed to tell Meteos what to do.

They're questioning the player's ability and his decision making i.e. Meteos taking farm to be more fed when he's subbing in lane.
As for your last sentence, Hai was a strong shoutcaller. No one would deny that and c9's rotations and objective control was much more fluid. People have to keep in mind that Lemon was helping make the calls as well when it came to objectives. They had a system in a dysfunctional group and there is no real leader in the team right now. If some of you ever tune into Hai's stream you'll get a little flavor of what his calls would be like in a LCS. He's a taskmaster.
To be clear, Meteos is not leaving Cloud9. He will very much remain an important part of the team and will be working on another yet to be announced capacity. We also recognize that some of the language used so far mentioned an “emergency” update so we want to clarify that thankfully there is no health or family emergency. Meteos and the team very much appreciate the community’s concerns.
meteos was still good last split but apparently he can't play + shotcall at all because he was nonexistent this split. no presence on early game junglers and no presence of mind lategame on tanks in teamfights. other junglers pretty much did what they wanted on the map.
it was like watching cloudtemplar getting played every game right before he retired. difference is i still think meteos can play, just on a team where someone else is handling all the shotcalling.
