I'd be more understanding if he was playing teemo vs pantheon or some shit. I doubt you'd still say that once you are diamond and still lose lane frequently to lower ranked players. The whole idea of higher ranked players having so much better mechanics is very far from the truth. Mechanics are just overrated.
It's true though. I've beaten TLers in here and I'm only bronze.

So from what ive been hearing in worlds so far irelia is a pretty reliable top right?
|
In the past when I've played inhouses, most of the higher ELO people tend to pick champions they're unfamiliar with but wanting to learn. They have mechanics going for them but little of the matchup specific knowledge, ex. me picking rumble which I've played a grand total of 0 times in soloQ.
Irelia's a good top but she plays differently from most other tops these days, she's the only top laner that's designed to dive, stick to, and kill a squishy while most other tops and junglers are doing just the dive and stick to portions.
On another note, I played against my first Viktor today. Thoughts so far:
He maxed E, his Q did almost no damage and doesn't shield him for anything significant, just pull a gold and run at him with my MS advantage and trade right back. I was playing TF and with MS quints, it's stupidly easy to avoid the second part of E. After I got boots2+lich, I was untouchable and by the time he got both Q and E evo's, Ianing was over. Probably a poor Viktor but he just seemed rather underwhelming.
Early game, when he's at 700+ range and just farming, Viktor's E is 100% dodgeable. It moves so slow.

E also does damage when it passes through an enemy.

So, Nidalee, wrecked or not? I'm looking to pick up another top laner for yoloq. Currently most FotM tops (Maokai, Nidalee, Alistar) are all ban/first pick worthy. Maybe Alistar not so much anymore after the Headbutt/auto nerf. Were Alistar nerfs in effect for Worlds? He was banned pretty much every game. No Alistar nerfs for Worlds, but tbh even if Alistar nerfs were implemented I think he'd still see a reasonably high pick rate. The few games where Alistar has slipped through he's been played as a support a few times. Alistar's just in a pretty strong place atm. He's easily one of the strongest playmaking and peeling supports post-4.12 when all his shit got buffed. Alistar's weak against poke supports like old Sona, since he can't retaliate w/out going all in and also can't sustain through the poke. None of those are particularly popular or strong atm though. not that he isn't strong in botlane, but i think alistar support being played in that alliance game was probably a result of their opponent abusing wickd's champion pool during picks/bans. i think they were put in a situation where they either had to first pick alistar support or face him top because lol wickd.

Wickd's Alistar is actually his strongest non-irelia champion (which means its like 75% of his Irelia instead of 60%-), partially because of Alistar being OP, and partially because he understands the Sheen-First Triforce timing.

Does anyone else feel like lane J4 is super underrated in soloq? Might just be confirmation bias but when I play against it unless I play Renekton it always shits on me, he isn't exactly that difficult (And his poke is excellent for a melee) and 90% of his dmg is done in a 1.5 sec combo.

Here's something neat:
In early September (September 3-6th), I mined almost every single NA player's soloQ ranking position. About 20 days later (September 23-25th), I did it again. The following picture are NA player who:
1. In early September (September 3-6th), had veteran status. 2. In late September (September 23-25th), jumped at least 7 tiers up (e.g. Bronze V to Silver IV)
You can compare their old and new stats (grey vs. green columns).

Active I can't tell. But I do have a snapshot of most players with ranked records at two timepoints... some websites say there are 1.5 million players on NA with ranked records. I captured around 1.2 mil to 1.3 mil players.

Azir got significant nerfs from his original PBE state where most of those comments came from

Most champions come out around the mean and there are too many accusations that Riot makes champions strong so they sell better when this isn't the case. I'm a huge critic of Riot but this is one of the areas where I think the community is wrong.

Or they're good and just didn't play seriously until now.
Yeah, if you play at like 2-6 AM on NA, it's almost 80% Chinese players in ranked at certain elos. Always fun.
