At release everyone thought he was super underpowered (though they were wrong) and the only person who played him was Chauster playing some mix of jungle, top, and roam Lee Sin. It basically took the discovery of the double-E bug, followed by a fix to it + a massive over-buff for him to be widely played.

Shen, Lee, Skarner, Xin, Udyr (maybe, idr), J4, , Mummy, Mundo, Nunu might have been super OP around then as well Pretty sure that if you took away all of Lee's scaling he'd still be a competitive pick, and it would at least stop idiots from building glass cannon on him. It's just the sheer amount of utility he has, same thing with Lulu, Nid, Elise and Jayce, if you give a champ an extra 2 or 3 abilities chances are that they are going to be pretty strong.

You could argue her shield is a little too strong in lane, but if that's your complaint then just go roam

(Oh I know he'd be a huge lany bully in the early levels if his range was bugged because 675 spell ~= 575 aa range so the little wind-up is more than made up for by most aa animations and the 25 range advantage over most champs, but 675 is such a short range for a spell now, even point'n'click, that after the first recall and Tear or Chalice for his opponent he'd be sad.)

That being said I dislike running into god-level Chinese Challenger Orianna who can single handly dictate the entire goddamn game and nullify every bit of advantage I was eeking out as jungler..

Idk about solo queue pick rate, those stats are impossible for me to find. But it seems like after they nerfed aegis a long ass time ago that's where lee sin suddenly became one of the top 3 champion picks. In early S3 people thought lee sin sucked and besides release vi then nasus/volibear were so broken you never needed to pick anything else. Then insec ran a pain train at all-stars on lee and he kind of returned.

yes there is incentive to spend money on the game, but if there wasnt then there wouldnt BE a game because they need money to make maintain and update the game not to mention the pro scene. Would you prefer if you had to pay to watch the superbowl and had to pay to play LoL?

I would say she's overpowered. She's safe, can farm well from a distance, has good poke, has utility in her shield, slow and speed up (which is really overlooked) and her ult is game changing too. She's one of those champions that is kind of underlooked at in terms of how OP a champion is because she's not like Nidalee who can't be caught and throws a million spears for 3/4's a squishy's HP or LB who can 100-0 a target instantly. She's not really flashy besides her ult, it's hard for people to understand why she's strong. People don't pick "balanced" champs in LCS. They play the strongest ones who have the most potential to win the game. What I think when people say Orianna is the most balanced champion is that she is well designed.

20 armour is about as good as 150 hp, so the trade off is quill coat regen/dmg vs 30% flat damage boost to monsters 25% hp vs tenacity (but realistically 25% hp vs 10% auto reduce since mercs is a cost effective way to get tenacity) +a free 1/2 sightstone so thats worth a minimum of 200 gold. with yellow trinket past lvl 9 its basically free sightstone. 15% cdr is worth about 600 gold, 25 resists is worth about 500 gold, so even with just the 200 bonus hp the new ancient golem is already more cost effective than the old one. The clear seems like it would be slower but at least you can spam more, maokai is still gonna be slow as shit probably so he's not gonna be good im guessing. Amumu can spam more in jungle so you can Q camps and you'll still probably clear fast. I think orianna is quite clearly too strong but you can counterplay against her at least. Kayle has no real counterplay she does insane DPS but also counters burst and has a heal against poke.
