I am currently examining Ashe, and how her win rate is affected by other champions. The TL;DR version is that Ashe loses a lot to Leona and LeBlanc, while wins a lot against Kassadin (!!!)

I think most people could have told you that ashe loses hard to stuff like leona/leblanc without having to do a statistical analysis though. Were there any matchups that were something you might not have been able to predict?

I like how Riot justifies the changes by saying using Gragas' ultimate can be used to knock people into his cask and its this super cool move but I hadn't even really even seen that done until IEM lol.

Kassadin. Ashe seems to have very high odds against Kassadin. It shows on the table above.
There is nothing wrong with talking about Leona at all. It shows that the methodology is giving us reasonable results, considering I am still in the "experimental" stage. On the other hand, for some champions (Annie, in particular) I couldn't find anything significant.

Most of the time I see people R and then E, but the Q comes out after the E. It's one thing to line up your E along the line of displacement, especially if they get knocked somewhere in your direction. It's another to land the Q on a target who can probably go +-30 degrees even with a good ultimate.

Completely agree. There's so many competing factors that go into how R displacement work that the RQ assassinate Riot is scared of is essentially irrelevant. I mean, it worked in IEM but I can guarantee that there are 10,000 copycatters who failed it and basically threw the game by wasting most of Gragas' damage and letting the enemy team smash them afterwards.

In this case, we are seeing that when Ashe is on one side and Leona is on the other, Ashe wins 92.85% as often (7% less often), after adjusting for overall power of Ashe and Leona. The p-value is for statistical significance. If you know what p-values are you should know what this means. I made the cut-off to be p < 0.01 to control FDR. I have marked the ones with p < 0.01 with an *. What is this adjustment business? Recall, for example, Amumu has close to 55% win rate overall. Therefore, if you stick Ashe against Amumu, you will expect Ashe to lose a lot more often simply because "Amumu is OP", not because Amumu is strong against Ashe specifically. The adjustments are made to minimize this effect; in this case, I am saying after factoring in the power levels of Ashe and Leona individually, Ashe still loses 7% more often when Leona is on the other side - this suggests Leona counters Ashe quite hard.
Out of curiosity, could you do this for Veigar? I know that gragas/zed are considered the hardest counters vs him, and hes considered to counter Ahri, but it would be interesting to see what the data says.

Why does specifically gragas counter him?

his damage reduction greatly upsets people that are meant to delete you in one go. His ult can make you blow flash whenever he wants pretty much with your unreliable method of escape from ganks. lets face it gragas is just a "counter" to a lot right now
