At higher ELO, smiting is down to how much you can predict incoming damage to baron and your own spike damage combined the damage from smite.
Generally, most junglers that don't have %health have one skill that does ~150-200 damage to baron (120 armor/70MR) around baron time in addition to smite (Nasus Q, J4 Q etc) meaning that in order to outsmite the enemy jungler, they have to predict the incoming damage to time the smite+skill within the health range where the enemy can't just use only smite and steal it and where the skill will knock the health down enough for you to smite it dead.
You literally cannot watch the number go below some threshold and then smite since you're pretty much guaranteed to lose it if you do that, you have to see the health, know how much is incoming and time your stuff to last-hit the baron.
What makes champions like lee sin, elise and nunu exceptional at stealing/securing baron is that their combo skills with smite deal more than most other champions, sometimes significantly so since they're based on missing health/massive damage to monsters. At 2k/12k hp, lee sin does ~600 damage with the second part of his Q, elise with no offensive items (golem stone) does ~525 damage with spider Q and nunu does between 750 and 1k damage before smite, all somewhat to significantly more than most other junglers.
Saint is (I'd guess) not particularly good at judging the damage incoming to baron while someone like jiji is godlike at the prediction and that's pretty much all it comes down to.

He's a forum regular so he gets a little leeway, plus he just came back after uninstalling so we're trying to be supportive ha. TL LoL is nothing if not a tight knit community. That said some of the general "LR" type comments should probably take place in his dedicated stream thread for the sake of not clogging up GD for those not watching.

Also; tried to do MF top lane; got dumpstered by Kayle; was like 0-5 in lane; but eventually farmed enough to get BC; then was able to group and comeback. It has some promise; really wished her E scaled with AD, otherwise the wave clear is so pathetic past half way through the game.
Clearly you should go ap mf, since ap mf beneifts from black cleaver too and her ult has ap scaling...=P

New wit's end on her, along with new Nashors, all the magic damage.

AP MF is funny but isn't there a problem that her ult doesn't actually get magic pen or something like that. Obviously the answer is just to get LW and BC on top of AP for hybrid caster MF.

This. You'll see the same posters posting everyday and they've been doing it for months if not years. We dont have many people around here so everyone knows eachother. Some new guy rolled in and did the same stuff, he wouldnt get the same response.
Its the same philosophy TL goes by with its oldies, go look at QuanticHawk's posting for reference. Only on a smaller scale
Well except me, nobody knows who i am i just know them :3

Ugh, people have no idea when to engage and when not to. It's probably the no.1 reason why I'm losing right now. An amumu turns around after we took the opponent's mid inhib and guess what; his ult was on cd. Then they got 2 inhibs and the game was pretty much over from there because they got a free baron afterwards.

Funny how when I watch him stream he is much better at it, but then again he isn't playing against other coordinated pros usually when I watch him.

It just seems to me, from my EXP, that sometimes I will hit a smite exactly, or sometimes I will miss by even an embarrassing amount. The latter usually happens when someone on my team peels. Now, obviously you cannot predict that in solo games, however, I would guess that in a coordinated game your ADC and Karthus should not just randomly peel without telling you.
I don't rage if I lose. I don't rage if I get trash talked, have noob teamates, have trolls, people don't surrender, people surrender too early, whatever. I'm too old and have played games for too long to let any of that shit bothering me. But DC'ing makes me fucking rage. Oh, you are going to win the game, how about you dc for 10 minutes, come back just in time to see your team lose the last teamfight they can have, and you're unable to stop the last 4 teamates and they take base.
G fucking G. Fuck internet connections, I want 2 cans and a string - that shit was stable.
edit for late 2 cents too: Smiting can be harder as people actually get better, as well. People with better awareness begin saving cd's and re-positioning carefully to prepare for being engaged upon by/in the baron pit. Because of this the damage becomes harder to predict. At lower levels, people just keep tunneling hard unless everybody turns so it's easy to get a timer running in your head.
