Lets max plants first on Zyra cuz Q and E are hard to hit.

There are plenty of skillshot dependent champs who max their skillshots first because their usefulness is just that much better than the alternative skills. You'd never max E first on Ezreal.

Rupture only gains dmg, W gains silence duration as well.

Yeah it is more practical but that's not everything.

I just max W and Q and put a pt in E for utility. Liquidpractice terror Nami here before she even got her buffs. I agree with Yango that Q levels are incredibly underrated. It chunks really hard. I still max W first though for the easier trade harass.

that's even more reason to max Q first, if you miss there's a shorter opportunity for the enemy to punish you.

The thing is, W's mana cost scaling is just disgustingly bad. +15 per rank is really rare these days--the mana cost almost doubles going from rank 1 to rank 5.

Trading well isn't just about coming out ahead on health. If trading is strains your mana really hard, it still won't work out for you in the long run, especially since people bring health sustain to lane but typically not as much mana sustain.

There are a two points in the game where Nami simply reigns supreme right now: level 6, and level 9 with Q max. With W max, Nami doesn't have nearly as powerful of a scaling, is EXTREMELY mana dependent unlike Q max, and has less crowd control.

Simple: With Q max, you decrease her dependency on mana, which gives more flexibility in her rune and mastery choices (zero mana regen needed) AND it gives her a very powerful 10 second cooldown big nuke that not many enemies can deal with. Instead of trying to win my attrition (I believe Nami loses in this department anyway because of how aggressively her W's mana cost scales), you just fking manmode with her base mana and offensive rune and mastery set ups and trade them to death that way.

The problem with Q max Nami is it's kinda dangerous to not clutch Q, I'm a big fan of E max for that reason, but Q max has it's place (I like it with Ashe)

Missing a rank 1 or 2 Q at level 9 is a much bigger problem than missing a rank 5 Q at level 9 or even earlier levels. You're trying to get more mileage out of her slow to hit a rupture-like skill, but is that using Nami properly? Even if it hits, it will have low damage and cannot properly pressure for a longer period of time.

WIth just a rank 1 E, you're pretty much guaranteed to hit them at least once (340 BASE movement speed + 30 bonus for 1.5 seconds soon to be 40) and that will significantly increase the threat of Nami's skills with an extremely high damage skill, and with a lower cooldown, AND with flat mana costs across the board unlike her other two spells. Even if you miss, the cooldown is 4 seconds lower and by W'ing your AD or yourself, both of you will have +30 (+40) movespeed to disengage and rethink your plans. And when you HIT, a 10 second engagement is an entirely different story compared to a 14 second engage, not to mention the differences in damage potential.

Tried looking for a Lissandra thread, and figured I'd ask here (even though we shouldn't be asking for item builds here).

Should I go for D-Rings -> HG -> tanky AP items (Abyssal/Rylais etc.) or something like RoA/Athene's/Morro's?

I find myself favoring the former.
