Hello, I was in the same predicament and have been experimenting with champs lately as well. I just recently bought Lux and love her style. Here are some similair champions (skillshots, supportish, high range, poistional):
- Morgana (Support just like Lux with a couple of differences - this has been my main for a while) - Malzahar (can be played AP or AD) - Ezrael (similair to Lux but is an AD carry) - Ahri (I didn't like how squishy she was but is fun)

Most champs can play against him with no problem, but it requires a specific mindset and playstyle in and of itself almost. I can't think of a single support that you have to pay attention to and know the cooldowns as much as you do Blitz. Some people don't know how to play against him, and others don't like doing it because it's annoying.

To be able to play ranked properly, you should at least be able to play 2 champions for each role, as you will never always end up in your favourite lane. Currently you can only play 2 mid lane champions, so try to diversify by playing different roles with completely different champions. Try a melee bruiser type for top lane or something maybe? You could also go for a multi purpose champion like cho'gath. You can go top, mid and jungle with him, and even the occasional support role can suit him. He's also completely different from your current set of champs, so you get to learn the game in a different way!
I believe Lux can go mid or bot support

Honestly it sounds like you prefer poke champions since that's practically all Lux does and Ahri excels at poking too. Someone suggested TF but for mid lane you could also consider Xerath and AP Kog'maw. Assuming you like to play champions that excel at ranged poke Nidalee and Jayce are two good options to consider for top lane, Caitlyn and Ezreal might be good options for AD carry, and you could pick up Sona for support (or even learn to play Lux support). There really aren't any junglers that I can think of that do long range poke.
I'm just kind of assuming you like to poke people down from range since Lux and Ahri happen to be my favorite mids and that's kind of the same play style that I like.

syndra is a pretty easy transition for a lux/ahri player, i think

I give you: Miniguide to top lane tank Gragas: 0/21/9, some combination of tank, AD, and CDR runes (hybrid pen and attackspeed are also ok), Flash/Ghost and your choice of Ignite, Cleanse, Exhaust, or even some more niche summoners like CV. E>W>Q the way it was meant to be (seriously, ignore Q until you have to take it). Bully your lane with beefy body slams and stupid AD. As long as you only hit one dude with your slam, you do stupid damage. Press the assault with autoattacks or just back off afterwards. Core items are Warmogs and Spirit Visage, with an optional Tear at some point. From there get whatever makes sense - good options include Frozen Heart or Iceborn Gauntlet or Trinity Force, Atma's, Randuin's, Crucible, Locket, or anything that gives you tankiness and utility. In teamfights you can use your bulk to peel for your carries or scare away your enemy's carries. Try to barrel the enemy AD - 40% less aspd is huge. Use your ult disruptively; it still does crazy damage even with no AP though. Keep quaffing your booze whenever you can. (Bonus: if you hit EW really quickly, most of your drinking channel will be covered up by your dash animation).
As an aside to this body slam procs furor boots no matter how many targets you hit with it.

I disagree with you about the building philo thing, but that's because I stopped considering shurelya as a priority buy long ago so now that the regen was nerfed I don't get it at all anymore.

That's an accomplishment. You should be proud.1600-1800 is WORST elo by far. There are random people who shouldn't be 1200 and random people who should be 2k lol and that makes about 50% of the elo.

What would be the best approach to getting out of this elo?

Duo q or just play enough games.Solo ranking in team game is just dumb in my opinion(not to mention you get same elo for carrying or getting carried which is also stupid) so you'll just have to get a lucky streak or just play enough games to get out. Most times I gain elo(and I am sure others as well) they get a really good streak and go up like 200 elo in 2 days and then stagnate again. But who am I to talk I've been at 1810-1860 for like 2 weeks now and it's just troll/flame fests mostly XD.But then you get 1 good game with normal human beings and think "wow that was actually fun" so it's not that bad.

Be better than everyone else at that elo.

I found at that ELO nobody knows how to jungle effectively so yeah just stomp the other jungler and be more useful than him and you have a good chance of getting out
Oh and take timers, you would be surprised on how many people don't and always ask WHEN IS DRAG? WHEN IS BARON?

i got bored of destroying people with normal Elise, so know I'm trying out AD elise
Maxed out without items she has
about base 100ad 5 spiderlings which deal 40 physical each, 200ad 140% AS steroid for both massive gap closer Free AR and MR % health damage Q which isn't entirely useless when you go ad
So with some Ad items and like tri or mallet to stick on people she can destroy anyone in seconds. I crapped on a few top lanes with her, and then lost pretty hard to an ap yi mid because I got bored and tried to kill him, which is not possible in lane.
Seems pretty good though, not sure what to build. You want CDR because spider abilities are free and spiderlings get your Arpen , so probably cleaver, then maybe just BT or maybe rageblade....you could buy nashors on her....
I'll keep trying it
