K. This may be a bit weird coming from me, but I am going to attempt to postulate a possible best case scenario that we could TRY to get implimented.
This is based on a few theories.
First: the change is coming. Riot has demonstrated in the past that when they put this much effort into something, they will go through with it regardless of if it is needed (or even wanted), see the S2 jungle.
Second: while the change may be coming for the overall structure, we may be able to influence minute changes by using our connections to Riot (Neo, Moonbear, Smash, whoever else I'm forgetting).
So here is my hypothesis:
Personally, the structure of the new system, while convoluted and complicated, is not the biggest issue. A graphic overhaul of where you rank isnt the problem. The problem is the hiding of ranked Elo. More than anything else, this is the thing I have the most problem with, and I am guessing the rest of you likely share that sentiment.
Therefore, I suggest that we attempt to push back on Riot on that single point. If we make it so that overall Elo is visible, the rest of the system is not that big a deal when the change goes through. The problem becomes how to acknowledge Riot's desire to hide overall Elo to make the system seem more "important" while at the same time enabling those of us who care to view our overall MMR.
The best idea I can come up with: keep the ladder ranking for solo q available on the website, just as it is now. That way, the client can do its thing of promoting the "Im not just a small fish in the big sea" thing, while at the same time allowing for recourse for those of us to still use overall Elo to compare skill.
If someone has a better idea than that, then we should either push that idea or combine a list.
When we decide what to do, we should pester Neo, Moon, whoever, to make sure Riot gets our list and greivance and at least considers it.
Thats all I got. What do you guys think?

All riot needs to do is hide somewhere in the client your elo, and not teach people how to get to it easily, so that people who care can still find it.

This is something that I don't really think is what it will do. I am a very casual player who plays mostly normals with friends and I see the current ELO system as the "small fish in the big sea" it is this big number that doesn't mean much. I know I will never make it to the top or fall all the way to the bottom. If I play a ranked game and lose ELO yea it sucks but its just a mostly meaningless number going down a bit, I am still pretty much average.
I see this new system as a lot of really small seas all in a row. Now if I lose its not that i sink down a little bit in the sea, now I could possibly get kicked out of my sea and get moved to a worse one. Of course that also means that if I win a lot I could get promoted to a new shinier sea. I think this system will actually increase ladder anxiety though also increase the motivation to play ranked since now it seems like there is something to fight for instead of just a number.
Though I do agree with there needing to be some way to see a number, even if it is just something like lolking still being able to get its data, so if I want i can still compare my ranking with friends.

Division one 1500-1570 Division two 1571-1641 Division three 1642-1711 Division four 1712-1782 Division five 1783-1849.
If you are at the top of your division you are closer to the bigger number. If you are at the lower part you are towards the smaller. Consider league points the new elo currency, which you will be rewarded with more for a win. Rough estimate currently they can see a +15 per win. They only time it would be hidden or tough to figure out is. If you are at the bottom of gold and continue losing. Since you won't fall from gold, but will be playing with silver players.
The issue shouldn't be not knowing your elo, but having to play more games to climb rankings.

Don't forget Angry Birds. I really like watching xj9 but I always mute him, put good music on, and focus on the gameplay. I'm probably in the minority, though, because many people like when people talk (i also prefer streams without webcam unless it's someone I like)

Riot, wai change an alright elo system? Probably don't want people too focused on elo.
