if i play nami i'm going mid. lol
Yeah, the opposite team had one. Turns out philo->pick->grail Lux did more damage to me than twin shadows->deathcap Nami. She really was underwhelming in teamfights because apart from her ult she didn't have much (heal not that useful with Vayne+Fiora+Orianna combo, or just my Leona AoE and my passive on top of Orianna's, not enough healing), and her damage was pretty meh. Also her E was useless because of our cc: if she didn't use it on the right person (Jax/Darius/Cait as candidates, depending on who I dove we generally cc'd two while killing two, with possible overlaping) it did nothing.
So I'd rather see her a support, and her cc's better coordinated with other (her Q is basically a weaker rupture) or with a heavy kiting team, as her peeling seems underwhelming. Her ult goes hella far though, sometimes we thought "hey let's catch X who's alone!" with Nami on another lane, and right after we killed our target a random wave would pop out of the bushes on us.

Zyra's safer because despite the lack of heal she has a much easier time cc'ing people (E OP) and better range too. Her ultimate is also stronger I feel, on top of better sustained damage through her plants' broken base damage.
Not saying that Nami is weak, mind you. But since she isn't straightforward to play I expect her to do badly on release.

She is a kill-lane support that is also squishy.
so is zyra
It's not the same at all. Zyra has two very strong CCs, brings a lot of damage in lane by herself, and has a kamikaze passive.
Nami is mostly about forcing trades with her W, but her ADC needs to play with her well to get the most out of her spells.
After attempting to try it out on PBE, I can say for those that like to jungle every champ that Vi is indeed able to go through the jungle without much of a problem. Started out skilling WEQ, machete/5 with a 9/21/0 mastery and AS reds/AD quints/ armor yellow/ scaling mr blues. Went wolves > blue > wraiths >wolves > red > wraiths and came out with about 80% of my health left and no pots.
Parts of me wish that LoL stay as successful as it is right now, and prove TL wrong to not providing it as much support as for Dota 2. Not that I am wishing Dota 2 or TL newest Dota 2 any bad luck, but yea ^^

I don't think LoL is going anywhere. When Dota 2 is released, it will probably get a lot more users (than it is now), and some LoL people might move over to it, but LoL has a very different appeal which a lot of players prefer. I think both games will be very popular esports titles for the forseeable future. The reason TL isn't supporting LoL in the same way as Dota 2 is a matter of the administrators taste, it has nothing to do with the future of LoL.
although actually with the new items i'm wondering if you can be a more support-like mid. mikael's / shard of ice / twin shadows / sightstone / deathcap. probably because i really like playing janna mid i think of this wacky stuff. definitely wanna try it if i can get enough friends on, then cry about how it sucks much later.

Hahahaha, I got a good chuckle out of that.
Been watching some nami action, feels very powerful in teamfights, but not that great in lane.
first game with a nami support (premade) we won 2 of the 3 fights in laning phase either 2:0 or 2:1. First fight we lost, was a 4 man towerdive, because our jungler was too late. Her kit seems to be made for 2v2 fights, if she lands her stun and ebb and flow there are very few supports which can influence a fight more.
I guess her role is very similar to zyra, but while she has a bit less combat potential, she does bring a heal to the laning phase.
