In a lot of team compositions you aren't going to get blue unless the enemy lets you camp theirs, which makes that distinction more important than a parenthetical statement implies. That said, Mundo and Olaf aren't particularly similar, so the comparison seems odd. slowing skill shot as only gank tool and good clear speed i think is the comparison people are making

It's like comparing Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise because they both have brown hair, green eyes, and are named Tom. Even though they have a few things in common they are fundamentally different.

their cc redux, skillshot nukes and high damage at close quarters due to steroids / olaf's e are pretty good comparisons

If every top player does something one way, probably a good indication that you should follow. Thats just my belief. literally every top player doesn't run a crit chance glyph and that didn't seem to sway you you should at least be consistent with your reasoning, personally I think it's ok to admit to holding a belief out of inertia

I have mixed feelings about the whole mechanical skill argument. The problem is that I can see correlations but I don't feel at all confident claiming causation because I can always think of counterexamples. For example, tf2 is a child of quake. Tf2 has lower mechanical skill than quake. Tf2 is also a worse competitive game than quake. Is that because it has lower mechanical skill, or is it worse for other reasons? It's possible that sometimes the same design decision might make a game less mechanically skilled and at the same time of a lower quality in competition without the first necessarily causing the second, and that we tend to lump these things together.

I think you make a really good point Mogwai. I think part of the reason why people say LoL requires no skill is due to the fact that strategical depth is hard to quantify, whereas APM is quantitative and even beginners can use that as a way to measure their skill level. Think of all the people who only analyze RTS on a superficial level. When SC2 was announced, people who got into Brood War felt that their skill level was measured by APM and build order alone. So we had tons of D level ICCUP players who had 300+ APM and could execute a build order to 150 supply perfectly but had no game sense and no idea what to do once the build order was complete. Such players would criticize B level ICCUP players with things like "Even a D- ICCUP knows how to put a Gateway on top of a Forge in PvZ, this player sucks," and be unable to appreciate the decision making that occurs at a deeper level than someone without gaming experience can observe. I even remember when people on TL were saying how the Chinese player F91 was bad because his ZvT build order was considered inferior to the Korean build, yet he still beat Idra 5-2 in a show match. How do you explain teamwork and strategy to people who can only analyze RTS in terms of mechanics, builds, and things that are concrete and quantifiable? When people watch a LoL replay or VOD, anyone can say "M5 built these items on Shyvana and counterjungled at exactly these times against this champion, if I do this I can easily be as good as M5." But then attempts to reproduce this strategy straight up often ends badly. One might take it a step further and say "If we break down M5's team comp and plays frame by frame, we can just copy EXACTLY what they do and be as good as them." Yet even other PRO TEAMS (TSM comes to mind) who try to reproduce M5's style seem to fail where M5 succeeds. The nuances and game sense involved with RTS take a long time to develop and are difficult to appreciate fully until you've reached a certain level of skill. Even with someone like Jatt explaining all the nuances of pressure and objective control to me, I still feel there are things I am missing beneath that layer that only a skilled observer can fully understand. I think though, that the most skilled RTS players can appreciate the fact that all strategy games require a level of comprehension and decision making that goes deeper than the obvious and quantifiable.

The choice you make like this: If I get dived by multiple people every fight and my team is a sustained damage type, buy Guardian Angel. If there is a single skill that really screws me over(Warwick ulti, Veigar Stun), buy Quick Silver Sash. If the opposing team has no proper poke that is able to easily remove Banshee Veil and they have a Sion who usually instantly targets me, buy Banshee Veil If the opposing team has a fed melee carry like Tryndamere who enjoys diving me every fight and going for sort of a killtrade and their team is AD heavy otherwise as well, buy Randuin's Omen. If the opposing team has a Poppy... ... . ... Buy gunblade and Shyrelya's reverie and have Ghost and run like hell? I get the GA stuff, but randuin's omen? Never ever seen that on an AD before. I had an unfed yi dive me just now. He alpha striked, double striked, and attacked me twice according to death screen. I went from 100-0. I think having 2 defensive items is necessary. Only QN Which 2.
