the last few days i've been playing a little bit lol and i really like it, but i have no previous experience with this type of game. is there someone like day9, who does videoguides for lol? i found some pages with hero build guides etc, but no videos explaining the basics. i watched a few streams, but no one talks about the basics as far as i can tell. i know a little bit about lanes, last-hitting, hero builds and basic strategy, but not enough to undestand everything going on in a 5vs5. any tipps?
Best thing to do is figure out which hero you want to play and then go to that thread, read it, and ask for advice. The biggest key to learning lol is understanding the importance of last hitting and building well, which you seem to already be well on your way to grasping.
You also can try Solomid.net, as they do post quite a few video guides for various champions, and even if they dont have your specific champion, watching a guide for a champion in that role can give you valuable insight.
Finally, if you have little questions just ask them here. Most of the time you will get a quick response. Just make sure that if you have a specific champion question to go to that thread.

Quite a few on youtube. None are too extensive imo.

Pretty impressive, TOO does always say that Lee Sin is the solo queue terror.

I just noticed that Riot killed my only penta kill, since right after that they had some sort of match history error and had to delete it. Best game in history, best comeback and they delete my freakin' penta kill !! I'm a sad puppy now

first things first. learn to farm, that means being able to get last hits in without getting raped by the enemy.
2nd thing, learn to farm.
3rd. learn to farm more
4th, carry team after farming.

For example, if I play Tristana, people dive on me or go far out of their way to kill me. This is obviously normal as a carry, but for one who essentially has 3 escapes (flash, w and R), it often feels like this small creature with a big gun is drawing even more attention than needed. In contrast, as Corki, people are far more cautious when trying to dive me - slightly intimidated by the bomber with a machinegun.
Whenever I play Maokai, as I W in, people can't resist focusing on me in team fights. I think it's just the psychological effect of a massive teleporting tree turning up.
Anyone? People should be diving tristana. I think people do focus corki correctly and I know they focus AP sion correctly. I think the problem just occurs when you're playing someone annoying like teemo twitch or shaco. People don't forget that time you ganked them or they ran into a bunch of mushrooms.
If you want to mess with people's heads though, you can do something strange like AD lux. I always expected lux's ult to hit me harder than it did one game.

A couple days ago there was a discussion about manaless heroes and League's champion design. As sort of a continuation to this, I'm going to make the claim that Lee Sin is one of the most poorly designed champions in League of Legends.
I don't mean because he's bad or he's not fun to play (or even that he's overpowered). Simply put, what is Lee Sin bad at? A hero with no mana should have some tradeoffs, but Lee Sin has good damage, good sustain/tankiness, and near-infinite mobility, especially when you consider ward jumping (which I also think is a stupid mechanic but that's beside the point).
|
Question about Fizz ulti: Will it stick to the target even if they teleport a long distance? Or more precisely, could you ulti a Shen who's ulting and the fish will follow him?
|
It's not so much that it's a "bad" design of a champion, it's possible to still have interesting decision paths on a cost-free champion. Nor does each champion neccesarily need the complexity of managing resources. It's just completely pointless to have resource costs if they're neligible anyway. Shen's Energy design introduces actual decision paths into his play; he needs to choose how to efficently spend his Energy. Lee Sin's costs are small enough to be irrelevent in most situations, further offset by his passive.

A hero with no mana should have some tradeoffs, but Lee Sin has good damage, good sustain/tankiness, and near-infinite mobility, especially when you consider ward jumping (which I also think is a stupid mechanic but that's beside the point). Lee Sin was a top-down design where the champion was designed to cater to older and more skilled players. Part of this was because the lore of the Blind Monk was something veterans tended to know about and care about, and they were instrumental in campaigning for him. As such, a lot of elements such as his mobility are there to reward players who learn the intricacies of him, rather than some of the QWER-spam happy champions we have. The tanky-dps comes from how you expect a blind monk to be bad-ass, and not some pansy. Again, this was due to the community's strong views from his lore. Energy usage fitted in nicely with the Iona background (all energy champs are disciplined fighters from Iona) as well as giving him a maximum cap on his skill usage. I've talked about the resource management the design team has before, but basically Lee Sin only ever has a maximum he can spam his skill which he can't break since there is no itemisation for Energy and CDR just makes him run "ooe" faster. So it also means you need to think through the pacing and usage of your abilities. Now, whether the energy costs of the skills were priced correctly with regards to their damage and utility is a different matter.

So I've come to the realization that unless I have the advantage, I have no idea what to do, at all, late game.
Any advice?

Pray the other team makes a mistake and exploit the hell out of it. It's what I do.

Just got my stream set up. Don't feel like I'm good enough to be thread worthy, but if anyone wants to watch and/or give advice I'd appreciate it <3! http://www.twitch.tv/mondorocksu#
