Its all up to luck though. I have had periods where I wonder why people even bother to queue when they don't know what their character even does. I have also had periods where I go on streaks because the same happens to the other team. Today I won a game simply because the other team took all magic damage characters and even though my teammates fed the first 10 minutes we won when we all built up magic resist :/

My point is, my 3rd game Riven or 4th game Renekton are still enough to win lanes and carry around 1400/1500. When it's a tournament game I'll stick to my 200 games WW or Tristana - those are champs where I can push them to their limit. tl;dr: Winning lanes/carrying around 1200-1600 elo isn't something you need to be afraid of and therefor "don't jump into ranked directly when you hit lvl 30" is utter crap imho. That was the original discussion, sorry for driving slightly offtopic. =D Edit: What I'm trying to say is that imho it's not hard to play a champ to 80% of his potential within just a few games, while playing him at 99% of his potential may take like 400 games at a high level.

Honestly you don't need to play Noct or Lee Sin to do well as a jungler. So many people underestimate the junglers that are not on the top tier so you'll be able to surprise folks quite well. Advanced stuff? Eh find a jungler streamer and watch what they do and why. I learned loads and loads by spending a few evenings watching someone like saintvicious.

HP quints are pretty good for someone new to 30 though and have 2 rune pages (especially when the Halloween ones were around). I probably wouldn't get all 3 since they're 2k each, but they give a lot of room for error at low levels, which is incredibly useful for those newer to the game. As you improve and get more rune pages I would slowly swap them out though.

I don't care why he's a good champion. You don't need to play OP champions to be successful at low level. If you're trying to learn jungling, you want a cheap champion that teaches concepts applicable to jungling on other champs, and the 450/1350 IP junglers do that just fine.

More important, he has very high sustain in the jungle, and can run almost any rune page and clear. He can also start at any camp, making him very hard to gank in the jungle. He's not the fastest, but definitely the safest.

As you improve and get more rune pages I would slowly swap them out though. I'd steer away from using "good for low level runes." I've recently taken up learning to play without mp5/lvl seals because I've been using them since I hit 30. Back when I started playing almost everybody used them but they got nerfed and now there are much better options. I realized I have absolutely no idea how to manage my mana because of this when I want to play champions with different seals so I have begun to remedy that situation. My point being: you shouldn't learn how to play the game with runes you're using to provide yourself with an unneeded crutch. Health quints are largely ineffective now for the same reason as the mana regen runes. You don't want to force yourself into a bad habit.

(Or at least that uses Rogers or something?) The only thing holding me back is my abysmal upload speed and I'm wondering if anyone has managed to subvert the fact that Canadian internet is still back in the stone age.

I know the general trend of late has been to focus counterjungling at level one and do less of it after you have started your route simply because the trade off is really not all that high. Sure, you take your enemy's jungle, but you lose time, buff time, and exp traveling, especially if your opponent is any good. I know Saint especially has become a bigger proponent of not counterjungling until after your first clear, once you have a way to clear camps very quickly and keep your mobility up. The best way to learn to counterjungle is to get counterjungled yourself. This anecdote is straight out of a ranked game yesterday: I was phoenix udyr, going against a jungle yi. My standard path is wolves, blue, wraiths, red, gols. Depending on the enemy jungle, I will run a wraith jack after blue simply because I know that a wolf first start will make me faster than my opponent, and pheonix udyr clears wraiths really quickly, quickly enough to get out before the enemy knows I am there. Against Yi however, I will not do that simply because I know most jungle yis tend to do the fast 6 route, and take their wraiths before I can get there. So instead I did my standard wolves- blue, only to find that yi had taken my wraiths. So my next thought was to go to gols, since I know that I only need 3 to do red, regardless of where I get it. However, Yi jacked my gols too. Rather than get ticked at yi, my first thought was how to continue my route. I was full health and level 2, and unable to do red. So I had my support cv enemy red/gols. The thought here is simple. If I see him on that side, I can run to blue and take that. If gols are still up, I know he went to blue after jacking my jungle and I can go take his side of the jungle. In reality, I saw him going from his wraiths to the small gols, level 3, no blue. That tells me he has done my wriaths, my gols, and his wriaths. Since he was going to small gols, I simply went over and jacked his blue, then went back and did my wraiths and gols, backed, got red, and ganked top for a kill. Essentially, he traded ~ a minute off of my level 3 for his blue, at which point I was able to get a faster level 4 simply because I had all of my jungle up at once, which allowed me to gank at level 5 instead of 4. ^That is the sort of knowledge and decision making you want to have when attempting to counterjungle. Yi tried it, and I punished him for it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect in a nutshell. don't listen to what other people tell you, especially from TL, although I'd take TL over the general LoL forums. We are all bad at this game. Some are more bad than others, but everybody here is still bad. Find out for yourself how you enjoy playing the game, and not what someone else tells you is the "right" thing to do. Right now we are listening to what Europeans told us to do. The last time something like that happened, we had World War I and II.

![]() Crits are a cool mechanic. It, dodge, and procs, no matter how pseudo-random, are all bad mechanics.
