People who complain about music on a stream can shove it where the sun don't shine. There's a mute button for a reason. People will complain about anything, given enough time.

There's very little useful information from in-game sounds. The most notable thing is hearing a skillshot hit someone in a bush when you're checking if anyone is there -- you can't always visually tell if the projectile dissipated or hit someone at max range.

Non Sequitur: How necessary is background music when you're streaming?

There's a relatively small LoL group based out of the Elitist Jerks forums that has a number of people looking to improve, so I've started streaming to help them out. All I do is constantly talk about what I'm doing and why while veering off on relevant tangents, so I figured music wasn't necessary since I was always saying something. However, one person told me I needed music.

My take on it is that music is distracting from what I'm trying to accomplish (I would hazard a guess that outside of hilarious commentaries on trumpets and midgets, Day9 would say the same), but I don't like dismissing opinions outright so I thought I'd get a second (and third/fourth/seventeenth) opinion.

Also, so many stream threads. Do we really need separate threads for everyone?

Sequitur: Where can I find your stream? ^^

I would agree most music would be distracting (dubstep and mainstream songs) but if you played some Oscar Peterson in the background like Loci I think you'd only be enhancing the experience

Here's the link. I'm at work now but in three or so hours I'll be home and online (around 2:30 CST). I'd make a thread except I kind of think we're overwhelmed with random person thinks they are interesting enough to stream threads as it is.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I think I'll hold off on music until/unless I sense that I'm losing steam on my endless chatter (which tends to happen after 3-4 straight hours of talking). If what I'm saying isn't interesting enough to hold anyone's attention then adding music doesn't really solve the core problem.

That's me! It's been almost exactly a year since I posted that guide (tomorrow, in fact, to the day) and started making videos. Funny how the time flies.

It's dangerous to tell me my guide was "well done". It might inflate my ego.

Support Alistar is so fun. Used to play tanky Ali but support Ali is much more fun. ^_^

Support Alistar is just tank alistar adapted to the modern meta, jungle, AD and AP are the weird builds that works because Riot feels like Alistar should be playable in all role except range AD.

This has probably been asked before, but when you are Duo Queueing in ranked and your attitude is "fuck everyone else, us two are carrying everyone", which positions are the best to play?
My friend has told me it is top lane and jungle, but I have heard from other sources you should have mid and jungle.

you should both take bot lane
if you can fuck their ad carry and support that's much stronger than shutting down their top or w/e

actually just as long as one of you is playing support and you can keep your carry alive, you'll be in great shape to win the game

It depends on who my Duo Que partner is. One of them is a tried and true support so I'll usually just bot lane with him and just put on my "deal with it" shades. The other is a jungler, at which point I just try to fill the carry role and go bot because it's the easiest to make them push it.

I think the best combo (if you're capable of playing it) is mid lane + jungler. Partly because these two roles give you the most control over the whole map and partly because when you're on the same page as mid/jungler, you can pull off some pretty nasty combos (e.g., jungle Warwick comes to mid and blows his ult every time it's up allowing solo mid to blow up their opponent).

jungle + mid or top, keep farming the opponent in your lane until the other team starts raging at him for feeding and falls apart

solo q ranked is decided by which team starts arguing first

Thanks! I'm in a situation where I'm very bored at work and watch streams when I have time. Unfortunately we work nearly identical hours XD

Jungle and any solo has the greatest impact on a game.

Avoid bot if possible.

if you have to bot, do it as support GP so that you can actually just say fuck it and grab the farm and 1v2 and carry if it turns out your lanemate is completely incompetent.

Honestly a good bot lane combo that steamrolls the other one fucks up the game too.

if you're flying solo though, you'll frequently have a partner you cannot count on and if you're duoing, you can only win 1 lane if you put both of you guys bot.

It depends on how you look at it, IMO anyways. For instance if you stick your two worst players bot there's a huge likelihood that they get smashed and you're looking at this unstoppably farmed/fed ranged AD with a support player who's so far ahead of your team's that he's got oracle and just cementing their victory. I prefer to be bot there and babysitting the crappy guy (canceling out his bad-ness) and shoring up the team's weakness, while doing my best to prevent stranglehold map control. But that's because in general I play to eliminate errors as opposed to carry.

So I tend to like being bot, although I have binges where I get angry and go carry instead. But that doesn't necessarily mean that I'll win "more often," nor does it actually turn out such that I have "more of an effect on the game." Because by having a solo lane you automatically have "more that's required of you," which can just as well mean "more chances for you to fuck up without you realizing it."

I was listening to Saint's stream the other day and he made the point (which I agree with) that it's better to have one of your last 2 picks solo than to put both of them in bot lane as the AD + support combo. I generally really hate being bottom in solo queue but it's often better than forcing your worst two players to combo the lane.
