Well, the current LoL has no observer mode, so any release is an improvement. Since Riot was likely involved in gettint LoL into MLG, I'm sure they will get the observer mode set up for it. MLG is considering HoN and DotA2 since Sundance has tweeted about both those games. I think someone earlier in this thread said that it's going to be LoL for Raleigh and HoN for Orlando just to test the waters for both games. Not really sure how accurate that statement is though.

The problem with LoL is that the competitive scene is so underdeveloped. Sure Riot is making their product show up at a lot of lan tournaments, but look at the actual competitive scene. Between tournaments do you see scrim channels on quakenet or gamesurge full of 5v5 teams looking for scrims? Nope, what you see are people like bigfatjiji solo/duo queueing with some girl he is carrying. These top LoL players are top because they've played the most and get the most practice with other good LoL players, but they act like they've never been good at anything before so they are totally in it for the personal fame/glory. It's just unfortunate they are too shortsighted to realize that if they really wanna grow their fame, they need to perpetuate the 5v5 competitive scene, getting scrim channels setup, encouraging the masses to make 5v5 teams and practice constantly, as opposed to living off of the solo/duo queues in the off time. Basically it needs to be more like cs 1.6s competitive scene (at least from years ago)

Once a few pages random person keeps saying this but with no argument behind it. Of course picking LoL over HoN is better for everyone except HoN's fans (since LoL is so popular now) so why would MLG bother? Especially since HoN aims at the EXACTLY same playerbase as DOTA2 ("hardcore" DOTA fans), while LoL doesn't (Riot wants the game to be accessible to everyone, not just gosu players)

But only because I played it cos it was free and understand the game. If you don't play it there's really nothing to appreciate.

If you want a spectator friendly UI, SC2 is a clearly a good example, but also look at hon's spectator UI.. popouts of the items when everyone someone buys it... good detailed info on the stats from last hits, g/m, and just very informative and spectator-friendly. Furthermore, the lack of a pause function really makes LoL a joke when compared to any game such as this where one game could easily take 30+ minutes and restarting a game is a very controversial thing to do. I'm not a HoN fanboy who hates LoL, seeing as I play both at a high level but the two games have issues that will stop them from being successful in the esports scene unless things change. S2 has a horrible esports department and marketing that they just lagged in player base and will never truly bring enough players or anywhere near LoL to make HoN a heavily-supported game. (remember advertising is everything when it comes to sponsors). Riot also runs LoL as a business and the game was 100% never intended to be concentrated as a esport at the start If you want to argue this, you'll have to explain the lack of a pause, when the bane of dota was the fact that pausing/reconnecting was impossible.. which was btw what made HoN very friendly to dota players. This is also ignoring the fact that they need to have a special server where all heroes are available and observer. Also you need to download a third-party program to get replays? This definitely does not seem to be the making of a game with esports in mind. Most esports-oriented games will try to start people on even-footing and let the skills take care of the rest, not provide perks in which people need to purchase or play for a while to earn. Riot runs LoL like a business, which is fine, but they haven't been and need to start making changes to the game that makes it spectator-friendly and develop it towards being a esport.

Potential being the key word... Any team based game has way more potential as an esport... Look at cs 1.6... look at even WoW. WoW arena was pathetic as an esport, and blizzard made it impossible to continue promoting it at lans... but it got more viewers than any other esport game.

Idk why people keep saying this????!! At least say something to prove your argument. It's the same sentence "they should have HoN instead of LoL" but no plausible reason "why". LOL has a huge fan base, more users/players and the fact that player streams can go up to 30k+ ie. Hotshot. HoN was pressure to make it to F2p but i think its too late. I think LOL was an obvious choice, DOTA2 will surely be popular once it comes out but both games can coexist just like BW and SC2. Tbh i think LOL will stay dominant in NA and kinda EU.
