...or while watching a stream of someone else stuck in queue. Here's a bunch of free or cheap-as-free distractions that can be operated in windowed mode, so you can play while you play.
Game Terraria $9.99 for endless treasure hunting and giant bosses fun. Not Minecraft in 2D. Get it on steam and maybe we play together.
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup Free Roguelike. Best one I've played. Still actively being updated with new content and bugfixes. To change the window size: + Show Spoiler +Find tiles_options.txt in the settings folder and uncomment these three lines:
tile_full_screen = false tile_window_width = 1024 tile_window_height = 768
set those two numbers to whatever you need
POWDER #1 iPod app that can also be played on PC. Free. More simplistic than your Nethacks and a good entrance point to the wonderful world of Roguelikes.
Iji If System Shock 2 was an indie platformer with moral choices. Sorta. Good game with a good soundtrack. Free.
Hero Core 8 bit Metroidvania or so I am told. Free.
Dwarf Fortress It's a popular one.
I hear Frozen Synapse is pretty good for this sort of thing too but I haven't played it.
Music jiji's Last.fm account I dunno what else I'd put here but people like jiji's music. I do not think Bob uses Last.fm. You could an account and start finding music of your own.
Video Here is some BEAST WARS for you to watch Season 1 Season 2 Season 3

I usually just browse TL and make random comments on people's threads. Games I play: Osu! Stepmania Touhou (Mostly the fighting games though, but I do enjoy the shooters)

if you're going to advertise roguelikes, what about nethack + angband, the kings.
In fact, soon you'll be dodging queues to try and get Dat Amulet.

Crawl is like Nethack except good. Nethack is far too broken to be enjoyable imo.

You get a magic word that makes you effectively invulnerable against almost anything that's not an @. In addition your god gives you a get-out-of-jail-free card in prayer. You are encouraged to do grindy things like credit cloning and you are discouraged from ever actually use-identifying anything. By the time your pet stops being stronger than everything you run into you're already past the otherwise-most-difficult part of the game! Once you get to the Castle and grab the wand you're basically invincible (unless you wish for dumb stuff) except that you can still succumb to any of the numerous instadeaths available (I've only ever lost one game post-Castle, and that was by being really dumb and taking off my gloves) ... but you still have to slog through another twenty-plus floors that are expressly designed to be as un-threatening (no more than two enemies can possibly attack you at one time in most spots) and time-consuming as possible.
I mean, Nethack still isn't easy, but the difficulty is there for all the wrong reasons and way, way too frontloaded.
Adding to this, yes, Nethack seems to be purposely obtuse unless you seek spoilers.
Sporkhack fixes a lot of the problems (or it did when I quit playing Nethack and its variants, I've not kept up with Spork dev since) but in the end it's still Nethack.
Crawl has none of the problems above. It's certainly not perfect but it has a very similar feel to Nethack except that the dungeon is larger and the interface much smoother and it's much less broken. It is admittedly far more difficult ... but that's probably because you can't just engrave a word whenever anything threatening shows up and be perfectly safe and monsters are actually powerful enough to kill you one-on-one even from full HP if you pick a bad fight (basically never happens in Nethack).
The one thing Nethack almost got very right is the ascension run, which is very cool. Unfortunately vanilla has the mysterious force which needlessly and uninterestingly extends the run, and none of the monsters you encounter except on Air and Astral are dangerous in the least by that time. Spork definitely did a great job here because monsters in general aren't quite as harmless (though you're still basically invincible if you want to be by the endgame) and it replaces the mysterious force with summoning monsters instead. Crawl's post-Orb run is mediocre at best.

You can't forget ADOM for roguelikes! I like the feel of it better, what with being able to walk around the wilderness and having multiple dungeons. I also think it's not quite as hard to get started as Crawl or Nethack (although that isn't saying much), but maybe it's because I've played it more.

Yeah I love Slash'EM/Nethack but I really only bother with Crawl while I'm at home and POWDER when I'm elsewhere.

Oh god. DC:SS is a bit rough to learn, but will eat up so much of your time once you have it down.

I like to have streams up on a second monitor and play Gemcraft Labyrinth on the main monitor. It's a tower defense with a pretty amazing amount of levels and depth for something free. There is a premium upgrade but it mostly just adds a few challenge modes.

If you're running Chrome, you can play Angry Birds on your browser and other cool games.

Or, you know, watch some SC games.

here's an in browser, tile based version of stone soup. https://tiles.crawl.develz.org/#lobby
from the something awful thread: "Use Chrome or Firefox, if Firefox, you must set network.websocket.override-security-block to true. Must have a CDO account."
Dunno what that stuff means.
