It was more that they took damage out of his E and bumped up the scaling so you need to buy damage items to hit hard enough mid/late.
Sunfire's stacking was hardly relevant in a serious setting. HoG->Randuin gave more utility and cost-effective stats than getting a 2nd Sunfire (particularly when it was giving 15% CDR), and after that, you probably wanted an MR item, if you hadn't gotten one already. Most games didn't last to the point where Sunfire stacking was relevant, unless you were stacking them just for lolz.

If I made a guide for jungle mordekaiser, would it warrant its own thread (as it's so drastically different from 'normal' morde play), or should I just put it in the regular one?

I've always just gone full tank with maybe an atma's at the end just think of it as a cheaper way of finishing off the sunfire recipe wut. dblade is taken for the hp and ad. the lifesteal is a bonus. tank garen stopped being viable/popular after sunfire passive no longer stacked.
I'm assuming he means b/c you get AD from doran's blade, it adds damage to his E, which does AoE damage around you similar to how a sunfire does.

My team won when we were down 20 or so kills for most of the game (5-20 at one point, finished as something like 25-45). But I was farming like a boss as Mordekaiser, and we got baron + stole another one + got most of the dragons I think, so the gold disparity probably wasn't that bad. trolololol though.
