In other words, I don't know know how to not be an ass about this because I honestly know that with the title and resources available to Marcou I could at the very least make the tournament scene for this game at least 100 times better.

I agree with you, it's pretty amazing to me that someone works full time on these tourneys and they're so poorly organized. The random TL SC2 tournies, organized by people who don't work full time or get paid, are generally better organized and run than Riot tournies.

Do you know what kind of resources Marcou has? I'm curious to know exactly how much he is working with and still failing.

all I'm saying is that if you let me make announcement on Riot's Front Page and let me be their "eSports Manager" I could inform the play base of tournaments and actually reach out to the people putting them together to ensure that they don't do something as fucking retarded as doing a Single Elimination Bracket for their preliminary rounds.

assuming that's all I got (no coders and developers and DB guys to use for actually doing proper seeding or making a system on their website to actually integrate their DB with seeding a tourney like this), I would've announced the tourney and linked to Newegg as soon as it was announced, as well as 1 month and 1 week before signups closed. I would've also immediately reached out to newegg to inquire about the rules, helped them fine tune them for my game and worked to get them to use swiss for seeding into a larger bracket (preferable double elim too). Assuming the worst case (that they can't do Swiss OR the backup plan of doing 32 pools within their tournament system) I would make an announcement on LoL immediately that the bracket will be seeded 100% by your team's averaged Ranked 5 man AT elo so that teams who are interested in having a higher seed could actually have time to work towards that. Assuming I don't have the power to create a General Tournaments subforum on their website, I would make a thread in the General Discussion forum and get it stickied ASAP so that as Newegg falls apart with support at this phase, I can start lighting a fire under their ass to actually make my players happy.

Am I at 100 times better yet or should I keep going?

You can keep going if you like, I was really just curious if you had some inside knowledge of what Marcou has at his disposal (# of employees, if any, etc).

I guess the people who organize TL tourneys have the advantage that they mostly have been participants in highly competitive tourneys themselves, only a short time ago.
I don't know if the same applies to this Marcou and his staff, but I'd imagine it doesn't. (and if it applies, I don't know why he doesn't do a better job)
If you have a good reason to disagree with the above, please tell me. Thank you.

much more importantly, I don't know why he's in such a position if he literally doesn't know anything about what he's doing. these are incredibly simple mistakes that anyone with the faintest sense of how to run a tournament knows, there is simply no excuse for someone in his position to not understand how to do this correctly.

Don't you know that it's always the person with the least knowledge about the subject who is getting the position?

I think the worst part of it, for me, is that they don't seem to be learning.

Say you're starting a new job you know nothing about. Sure, the first few times you go to work, you're going to suck at it. But if you give a damn and try to learn, you'll get better with time, and then you'll be good at your job.

It seems like the Riot organizers not only suck, but they also don't give a shit because they're not learning anything from the previous fuck-ups they've had. It is a god damn shame, because they have a really excellent game that the community seems to give a shit about competing at (something most game companies would murder for), only they're continually fumbling the golden opportunity that they have to do something good for the community (and good for themselves, I might add).

It boggles the mind.

Mogwai:
The smash tournament scene has consistently been the most mature and well-run scene I have ever come across. Even TL tournies, though better than everything else, have paled in comparison to the organization and communication that Smashboards and its attendees have provided. It angers me to see other games fail at things that you and I would consider basic.

I don't think LoL can provide the level of tournament quality we all desire unless they are able to code replays and spectators into their engine. You'd think it'd be easy and they'd have it done by now. I'm not sure why they've failed on the development end thus far. A non-fail tournament requires a degree of trust amongst its participants- trust that's verified by replays and spectators. Without a way of proving a match occurred or happened in a certain way the tournaments will always be stuck in scrubtown.

That said, it doesn't really address your complains. You're completely correct and could probably do 100x better than what we're seeing. Unfortunately, in my experience with the industry, sometimes community managers and tournament organizers have their power neutered before a tournament is even announced to the wild. It may not be Marcou's fault. But it's certainly Riot's in the end.

Edit:
Oh, I forgot to mention: These tournaments are clearly for the publicity, public buzz, and investor interest. Remember how big of a joke Nintendo's Brawl tournament was?

Another Edit:
I upvoted and bumped your post: http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?p=4155336&posted=1#post4155336

Lol at Radjacob trolling your thread Mogwai. I also am in complete disbelief that the first I heard of this tourney was through this forum. I just believe that no one on the Riot staff has 2 minutes to make a front page announcement for a $7k tournament.

Its been said that the reason that they dont have replays and spectator modes is because they patch the game every 2 weeks. Compared to other games that patch every 6 months, they must make replays and spectator modes that wont be out of date one patch down the line.

That is nonsense tbh. There patches dont involve much besides a new champion and bug fixes. A decently setup framework around the game should have no issues with that. Let alone spectator mode.

I am much more inclined to believe they just dont want to spend the resources on it when they can instead make another regurgitated champion that silly kids will buy.
Likewise with there voice of esports. They just want to sucker in the veterans who play on a high lvl and keep them with vague promises without actual results. The sc2 tournaments run by people as a hobby have better structure and execution as mogwai has stated before.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

Does this game honestly make anyone else rage the **** out? I am so sick and tired of wasting 25 minutes or more in games where people honestly do not give a flying about winning or at least progressing as a team.

This is probably the 10th or 11th night since I've started playing this game that after 4-5 30+ minute games, I have not won a game with no fault of my own. It wouldn't be that big of a deal if the losses were close or if my team even stood a chance but thanks to some retard, I am forced to wait 25 minutes to surrender and even then some other retard can turn around and say "haha, red button yay!".

I guess I also wouldn't get so pissed off if I could earn my bonus IP/XP each night by losing 3 games in a row or something. I have played 80 games, "achieved" level 14 but the quality in players has certainly not changed. Now if I hang out with LiquidParty people who don't rage the **** out at me being low level, I get wrecked by the level 30s we queue against because of rune level differences despite being somewhat decent at the mechanics of this game.

I have actually made a few friends (shout MedicAndrew) since playing this game but the same bullshit still occurs. We actually had 4 games in a row where someone left after 10 minutes and feeding the enemy team 8-9 deaths to prevent any sort of comeback.

I really would like to get level 20 at least so I can start purchasing high end runes but at the rate of my IP gain, I really can't stand to play this game any longer. I am sorry for bringing this kind of bullshit to the TL forums but I had to put it somewhere. This diarrea in my brain is going to give me a heart attack if I don't release it somewhere. Do any of the "pros" that frequent these forums have any hints, or opinions that can help me? I'm on the border of quitting this game despite the game actually being fun sometimes. Its the times when I am matched up with the Asylum's magic four suffering from all sorts of disabilities that this game seriously makes me f00kin angry.

you aren't as good as you think

level difference doesn't matter

stop blaming your losses on things that aren't relevant. if you think you're good then carry the scrubs, i don't know what to say. i'm assuming you're losing a ton of games so learn to carry your teamates.

Honestly, this is what I'd like to learn.
How in the hell can you possibly be good enough to carry your entire team even if you're solmid when for example, both top and bottom lose your lanes and they all come mid to gangrape you, you have an 0/8 Garen on your team...etc.

(Just an example of some games I played yesterday.)
Obviously there must be a way considering so many people have done it in solo queue, but HOW when your team won't listen to you or support you, or feed?

There are games that are just plain unwinnable, but there are also a lot of games that seem unwinnable but are doable if you know exactly what people should be doing and make the right calls in directing them (of course, they also have to be willing to listen to you).

Thoughts? Criticisms?

Team Names:

pt2

Pretty Simple. What do u think?

Add team name by captain in selection screen (only works when 5 people in group)

shows up in load screen

should I add this to LOL forum?
