My initial Maokai reaction: Low damage, Low cc/peeling abilities, meh utility, and it was unclear how much reduction/damage the ulti did, but it looked low.

Based on the preview at least, the numbers he has seemed pretty bad. But then again, his skills are good, and with the right numbers I think he could be a good tank.

Kinda wish his knock back was further though to help his peeling a bit.

I really don't think trying to judge a champion's damage potential is a fruitful endeavor with regard to champ spotlights. Likewise, it's hard to judge his peeling ability as low until we see the CD on W.

Remember how people thought Karma's damage was going to be a big deal from her spotlight? Look how that turned out.

TBH I think the biggest utility of the knockback is that it interrupts channels. I don't see it doing enough for any other purpose. At which point, it still looks poor, because you're getting the effect of Amumu's single bandage toss in two skills (Q+W)

I literally watched and rewatched the moments when the ult was detonated, and it was difficult to see either the graphical effect or the actual damage it did. It may have been that it was always Udyr, Trundle and Amumu running around in there, but it didn't seem substantial.

That said, I do recall that one of the stated reasons why the patch was delayed was because Maokai was underpowered.

that isnt even a knockback wtf...I was thinking like blitz pull range/janna ult knockback not a fucking centimeter. thats so bad.

You expected to get the knockback effect of Janna ult on someone's Q skill? When that champion ALSO has a positioning skill to set up a blowout if it were that big?

TBH I kind of wish it were a knockup instead of a knockback. Something like a weaker Pulverize.

I thought the current design was a circular knockback like Janna's, just way smaller?

And while Janna's heals, she also doesn't have a positioning skill to immediately jump into the middle of 5 people, nor does she have the tankiness to take CC/sustained fire when she gets there. Being able to W->Q into 5 people and perfectly destroy your opponents' positioning every time seems broken.

Guys. GUYS. Hey listen. So I just played a game with the #1 amumu. So, the build is this:

Wriggles -> Zerkers -> Spirit visage because amumu needs those deeps and that regen yo. Then, regardless of other teams comp, even if they're all magic damage, get a HoG and build a randuins. YOU NEED IT. Then get a FoN for the added regen. So good man. So good. Try it, you'll see. Regen up da shizza.

A good paladin is a dead paladin.

So how do you build Ezreal after his nerf? Still GB/B with an odd Manamune sometimes, or more AP-centric builds? Or not take Ezreal at all now?

I don't thing lasthitting in Dota is more difficult. Shure, some heros have insanely bad animations but when I switched to LoL it felt to me that the basedamage of heros in LoL is a lot less than in Dota. However in DotA there are denies so you need a lot more mechanical skill anyway.

But I think the main point is that lasthitting/CS is not as important as in Dota, making correct decision in fights etc. is a lot more important.

Ezreal doesn't change at all. You just pay a little more for boots.
