This isn't really a post saying to get rid of ally chat but it is something to highlight that people are very, very annoying. I don't have an issue ignoring BM in Starcraft because I know I don't need to rely on anyone to win. But when your team is just talking shit the entire time and you know you need them in a competent mental state to win the game it gets really annoying really fast. Toxic breeds toxic and once there is one person in ally chat shitting it up eventually the team will get drug down by his bad attitude.

It sounds like such a pussy move. (Disclaimer that seems to be needed for people for some reason: My initial post, like this one, are just some thoughts. I don't really care that much if chat is disabled, enabled, or some sort of inbetween. I am more looking at this from a more casual player's perspective as I have known people who avoid the genre due to how it treats those who aren't good at video games). The problem with muting one's own team is simple: too much strategic information is given via chat and I want human interaction. I want that "good job" or "nice play" along with coordinated teamwork as that is what a MOBA is all about. If I simply disable the chat of all my teammates, then I cannot effectively play the game nor interact with them at all. If I reactively ignore people, then I still have to deal with their initial spew of negativity that may pull others into spewing their own insults to force me to mute others as well. Furthermore - it will annoy my teammates when I don't participate in objectives because I simply don't see them trying to coordinate a team effort. Chat is not needed for either of those two goals mentioned above since pings and emotes fill the same roles while limiting how one can be toxic. If everyone is using this alternative system, then it works since we are all communicating via the same means that we all receive. If not everyone is using the same alternative communication system, then suggesting to simply mute one's teammates makes zero practical sense. (As an aside: I think the best suggestion I have read from this thread is for it to be enabled at a certain level. This allows newer players to the genre time to get used to the mechanics and gameflow while being less judged for their mistakes. It also gets people used to using pings and whatever other quick communication "emotes" Blizzard implements that is more effective than taking the time to type).

In my day even the bots insulted your mother. I love banter, trash talk - whatever you want to call it. It goes hand in hand with anything competitve. I got over trash talking in my early 20s. I have enough angry people at work complaining about stuff the really matter. I have no time for kids telling me how pro they are. Now I just mute people and my time is way more enjoyable.

Maybe it's just that everyone is new, but even when people are doing really terrible things I haven't had an issue in HotS. It is rare. I've played maybe 20 games and only had allies shitting up chat twice. But I assume since the playerbase is so small the chance for the immature is lessened.

No what makes zero practical sense is to suggest that being able to talk to people in an online game is a net loss compared to ape-like grunts, smoke signals and sign language. This is like suggesting that children remain silent for the entire school day and wait for the end of the day to socialize because there's a bullying problem in the district.

The drawback you get is more leavers though.

Just because you're playing unranked doesn't mean you're not playing against someone who queued as ranked. I know, but it helps with the anxiety of some of the playerbase (at least the # of reddit threads suggest it somewhat). Probably not the best solution to combine player base in a MOBA, but the larger point is on the separation of competitive/casual players. Don't remember if LoL had separate game modes (Dota 2 has custom all-mids but it's not a game mode), but I'm thinking something like HoN where playing 1800 in NM means you're locked into your role vs Mid/Rift wars where there's no ranking and everyone kinda messes around.

I think of the maps, the Dragon Knight one is my favorite thus far. The objective seems reasonably balanced in that it is strong... but isn't something that will cause a team snowball too quickly like the cannons or curse imo.

How pro are you looking for? Catz, idra, InControl, DjWheat, Artosis, Khaldor and Destiny have all been streaming some games. Not sure how many pro MOBA players actually have Battle.net accounts to even get invites.

I was aware of most of those but they're not exactly what I had in mind, although Artosis is pretty damn pro at Hearthstone xD. Regardless, thank you for the information! I guess if top players were streaming this in their free time or tweeted about playing it then all the drama buzzards would've gone on a rampage about sc2 being ded and all that, so maybe they're not interested or Blizzard wasn't interested in reaching out to them for the time being. Still, I wanted to check. As someone who has played some DotA 1 way back when and didn't particularly enjoy it, I have to say HotS looks to be a lot more interesting to play and perhaps even fun to watch, but also a lot more infuriating to solo queue.
