Almost all the heroes specified above cost a bunch of gold. Malfurion, Muradin and Valla are the exceptions, but I fin them a bit to binary to play.
Raynor isn't great unless you talent him right. A lot of focus on damage, and especially searing attacks helps him immensely. Keep you distance a lot with him. He can survive some ganks and hits because of his heal, but he really is a high dps dmg dealer. You can't deal damage if you re dead or have to run away, so keep your distance (which is why I like the +20% range talent a lot). Thanks a lot! That opens up a few more questions though... What is the difference from ranked play to unranked (besides the fact that I'll get ranked)? How do I get into ranked? Is there a page somewhere where I can see how I can get gold or what rewards I can expect for leveling up? (I'm working on being more disciplined with my money, so I'm not spending any money on games for the next few weeks/months.) I know I can see the rewards for the hero levels in the game itself, but I haven't found anything for the player levels.
It says it in the game, you need to be level 30 and own 10 heroes to get into ranked. Doesn't do much more but give you mmr I guess.
If you click on your portrait on the bottom left and select rewards you can see what upgrades you achieve for leveling. Basically you get a couple thousand gold and 2 extra hero rotation slots from leveling. Every fifth hero level (not player level) also gives you 500 gold.
Basically it means that you need to play about 150 - 200 games to open up ranked mode, assuming you get the reward each day (or 3 every three days), win 50% of the games and only buy 1 hero that costs a lot of gold. Seeing that a game is about 22.5 minutes (some are 15 some are 30), this means that you can play ranked mode after 56,25 hours to 75 hours of playtime.

so all I need now is a clever plan to get my wife and kids out of the house for a week so I can rack that gold up... hmm

Incoming nerf (?) to void prison: http://us.battle.net/heroes/en/forum/topic/15699386712#19
I'm disappointed tbh, I feel like they're going to nerf everything that doesn't sound "fun" for the average player, even when the counterplay is just "learn the game". The main strength of VP is in team fights, stealing a boss is just a cool and risky individual play that rarely happens in high level games (and still makes Zera much less useful for 100 seconds).

Almost feels like this was planned! Interesting, I am seriously so tempted to just go sell plasma for $60 to get into this beta. I would play a lot of Raynor if I did get it, but I would go through the whole free rotation and test everyone before buying an additional hero. It seems like thi would be a long process though.
I can't tell if the rotations are set but this is my third week of rotations since founders pack and no heroes have been repeated as yet. I played a fair bit (now lvl 27) but have stuggled to get all rotation heroes up to level 5 in a week. Obviously that will change this week. I have only bought Tassadar so far as there has been plenty of variety to keep me occupied while having 23k gold left. You can certainly have a blast for 4-5 weeks without buying and amass some decent gold levelling heroes to 5. I guess when I'm lvl 30 I'll have to focus on buying to get up to 10 which might make the gold grind noticeable. I could buy the 2k 4ks only and get in straight away but not sure how exciting my hero pool would be.

No offense, but using your ultimate to steal a 5-man team's Boss from them, is just not (and will never be) excellent play. It's absolutely insane that it took this long before Blizzard got out with their statement regarding this issue. There's no counter-play except having 2 people on your boss while 3 people scout for Zeratul because of his in-direct pressure.
|
Agreed merc steals via VP isn't high level play or anything. It is just frustrating.
|
lol they are really nerfing it? That's ridiculous. I am not even zeratul but this just doesn't seem right.
|
Zeratul is currently a top pick and a very common ban, only behind Stiches. Let's talk about how ridiculous it is when we actually see the nerf. To me, the boss stealing is neither cool or creative, it's just a straight page taken from the big book of protoss bullshit.
|
Eh, I have kinda mixed feelings on this. On the one hand, it really isn't that easy to jack a boss with VP. I consider it to be a very high risk play that usually will result in Zeratul dying if he actually tries it. It really only works with regularity against bad players, thus I don't consider it a "high level play." That said, there is a certain level of excitement to it because it can flip a game so dramatically.
|
So they feel it's just an undue burden of knowledge for players not group within the void prism size when taking a boss and feels terrible when a Zeratul pulls it off? As a casual, if that happened to me I'd tip my hat. What really feels terrible is when the Zeratul freezes 4 of your team and his team isolates and kills the one member not frozen... yeah, take that away I hate that feeling... tyty.

At lower levels it may be frustrating but still, I've managed to do it 4 times out of 80 games - against people that had trouble spotting stealth heroes anyway. VP in team fights is much stronger.

I play at a fairly high level and i see it happening from time to time. Granted i see it happening more from my enemy rather than my ally. Glad i don't have to think about it anymore soon :>

Personally, it feels like bullshit when you are standing on the cap point, but you are not counting towards the cap because he used an ulti on you. Even if you are Zeratul ultimated, you should be counted as on the point for those purposes.
This mechanic is just doesn't feel right. Just feels wrong.

Is there a tier list of best to worst heroes?

On February 05 2015 01:51 TKSaga wrote: Is there a tier list of best to worst heroes? Here is iDream's and here is Zuna's. Each will give you a pretty good idea where the heroes stand, though there is significant room for disagreement depending upon map choice and team composition. As was discussed a few pages ago in the thread, Hammer, normally considered a low-mid tier hero, becomes a top tier hero on Dragon Shire and against melee-heavy comps.
EDIT: As just an example, I played a game as Hammer yesterday on Dragon Shire against a team that had Thrall, Arthas, Uther, Zagara, and Valla. I wrecked bottom lane very quickly to help us get an early xp lead. When it came to teamfights, the futility of the enemy team's attempts to engage on us was hilarious. Mines and concussive blast made it almost impossible for any of their melee to approach properly.

Getting killed is also frustrating and unfun. Blizzard should nerf that.

So on the topic of Zeratul and since he's free this week I've been trying him out.
He just doesn't feel like he can stand up in a duel early on and has to pick off overextended / preoccupied heroes. Is this right? Or am I wrong and he can actually get in there and kill a Valla or Rehgar right off the bat?
Late game he seems to be about using wormhole to blink offensively to burst something down and getting back out asap. But then I have to rely on the team to secure the kill? Or do I just need to pick my targets better at this phase of the game?
I'm very bad at assassins (especially melee assassins) so rather than muddle through another frustrating week I figure I'll ask some advice instead.
