The map needs some changes, as the temples are far too overpowered and often times you will never even attack a building an entire game because the objectives spawn so quickly and there is mercs and minion waves to be doing instead. And the fact that you have to stay at the temples until they are completed. My solutions: Reduce the overall damage of the temples. Make the normal laser shots do less damage, and make the final 5 shots do more. (like 50% of the damage) This doesn't inherently change the total damage but it puts more focus on having the last part of the cap. Either lower the amount of ammo all together, or better yet change what it targets. It could be interesting to have the lasers shoot at the enemy minion waves, or shoot at mercenary camps on your side of the map to leave them open to being capped by either team. (so as to force decisions on who to stay holding the point and who to cap the mercs). And if they shoot at minions, this would also force people back into lanes in order to soak that exp or lose it and get behind. if the lasers shoot at mercs or minions, this mitigates the ammo or damage output to structures. And to combat this if you want more structure damage, you can actively keep your merc camps capped or the minion waves in check. It ultimately provides more depth and decision making, while still keeping team fights for the points, but forcing people to do other things as well during. (kind of like how we need people to stay on the sun and moon shrines while someone to cap the DK). As it is right now, to win a shrine you will have had gotten exp from winning the team fight. And then you net a huge exp gain from the bldgs dying immediately. There needs to be more of a delay to this imho. Capping mercs or killing the minions to open you up for killing those structures more easily in the next minute or so would accomplish that much better.

Temple shots should deal less damage early and should scale the longer the game goes on. As is, I think the games on ST are too short. Temples should also deplete their shots slower if anything, not faster. That way, a team that wants to cap it has to commit more time to controlling it. That way, a team can concede a temple and take more advantage of being up 5v4 while the other team leaves at least 1 person to control the temple. Maybe you could buff the temple guards so that you need to commit more to killing them, too. First temple needs to be top temple and only top temple. That way, it's easier for the team that loses it / concedes it to soak all lanes and harder for the team controlling the top temple to do the same. The second temple needs to be bottom temple and only bottom temple for the same reason. After that I think it makes more sense to have double temples up. The other important thing is some of the map geography needs to be tweaked. Bottom temple needs to be easier to attack into. As is, it's damn near impossible to break that temple if you are not in position first. The boss pit needs to be changed so it's no longer known as the throw pit. It should be a more viable choice to concede a temple and go for boss instead. Having another watch tower that gives vision over the boss + bottom temple would be good.

Its interesting cause people on the heroes community treat zuna as this sort of sage of wisdom of the game (don't get me wrong, i've listened to a lot of his tips and stuff and i agree completely with him, its just that some people kind of go around repeating whatever he says withouth thinking about it, specially the tier list). It would be sad to see him go, but maybe they're forming another team?

Edit: so the Vortex roster update is on their website, too. Nirak, Syracuse, and Cauthonluck are on their roster. Sheth is now a coach? Edit2: Zuna and Kenma starting their own team... I don't see it. I mean the amount of talent in the NA scene is pretty limited. There are a handful of people that they could recruit and it's a gamble if they don't know about their chemistry as a team.

Anyway, the pro scene right now is kind of laughable, it will get better once the game gets closer to release.

The only team i think right now that has like, a 99% chance to still being a top team six months from now is Tempo Storm (used to be symbiote gaming) those guys simply have too much of an amazing record vs other sablished and better funded teams to not be taken seriously. The other teams are a gamble, they could be around the top, or they could not, who knows.

Don't get me wrong: they're good, but the gap between them and the top of the amateur ranks isn't very large. The biggest difference is that the pro guys have the benefit of having additional experience that they can leverage, resulting in them making better tactical and strategic decisions on average.

And Phantom you are forgetting the entire EU scene which has plenty of healthy teams.

If you're any good, you're on some team's radar either as someone they rotate in for scrims as a sub or tryout or just as someone they play with. This is going to change as the player base grows and as more money is put into the scene but you really have to be delusional to think that even a full team of the top 5 MMR "amateurs" on Hotslogs would take 1 game in 100 off TS. Don't conflate the players with the team. I agree that 5 amateurs would never take a game off a top team. Where I differ from you is that I believe that the reason for this is the differential gulf in organization and teamwork, as opposed to some gigantic qualitative difference in the players themselves. I also think that you have it backwards: the gulf between the pros and the amateurs is only going to widen as the game ages and develops.

A real shame as I was looking forward to that match. Symbiote / Tempo Storm have been dominating all the competitive matches lately, but I've been watching Zuna's streamed scrimmages and they've been sweeping all of those. In any case Zuna still has Cloud 9 stuff all over his stream and didn't mention anything about a team change today. When he was done he hosted Kenma who was answering a bunch of viewer questions. One that stood out was: "Cloud 9 has 2 teams, Zuna and I are going to start another team". I don't know if that means Cloud 9's going to have three teams, which would be odd. Either way it's confirmation him and Zuna are going their own way. Plus Kenma kept talking about how the HotS scene was still young, it would grow with time, ect. Basically he didn't seem to be sweating the lack of NA talent available for pick up.

I got in the beta and started playing on Monday. My whole Moba-experience is basically Tides of Blood (and lots of it, if anyone remembers that WC3 custom map), and that is a few years ago. I never liked Dota for its last-hitting (not saying it's bad, it's just not my thing) and never tried LoL. So, I will probably only play occasionally and don't plan to spend any real money on the game. Which heroes should I buy first? Also, do you have some common tips on which skills to use / how to use them? I played Kerrigan on Monday in a QM and found her really fun to play (despite losing the game), I played Raynor yesterday and got crushed (we still won the game). I either have no idea how to play him (very likely) or he sucks. So yeah, I'd be glad for any insight/tips you guys can give me. Or perhaps you already have a good post in this thread to which you could reference me?

The strong/fun ones differ with how you like to play. Tank: - I love stiches, and I think most people do, but you won't be able to play him in ranked mode since he is always banned. - Arthas is a good pickup which is strong and hard to kill. Not as much damage as tyrael, but lives eternally. - Tyrael is good and can do a lot of damage on assasins. My second favorite. - Muradin is also solid and only costs 2k, but somehow I don't find him very fun to play Assasin: - Tychus is strong as a truck. Solid HP and continued damage. Not bursty. - Falstad can output a lot of damage and can be fun wiht his fly. Favorite assasin for me. - Valla (who is cheap too!) can be strong. Not very fun imo though. - Support: - Uther. Costly heals but good support with stuns. - Tassadar is a beast. Good damage, nigh unkillable with his shield en escape and can do monster damage with archon. - Brightwing is pretty much top support together with uther. - Malfurion is ok, not great though. - They murdered Lili's usefulness, don't take her. Specialist: - If you play with a friend a lot, a combo with sergeant hammer can be a lot of fun, but hammer is somewhat vulnerable if you don't have solid teamplay. - Nazeebo is good fun and can make some nice plays. - Azmodan can be awesome. Almost all the heroes specified above cost a bunch of gold. Malfurion, Muradin and Valla are the exceptions, but I fin them a bit to binary to play. Raynor isn't great unless you talent him right. A lot of focus on damage, and especially searing attacks helps him immensely. Keep you distance a lot with him. He can survive some ganks and hits because of his heal, but he really is a high dps dmg dealer. You can't deal damage if you re dead or have to run away, so keep your distance (which is why I like the +20% range talent a lot).

What is the difference from ranked play to unranked (besides the fact that I'll get ranked)? How do I get into ranked? Is there a page somewhere where I can see how I can get gold or what rewards I can expect for leveling up? (I'm working on being more disciplined with my money, so I'm not spending any money on games for the next few weeks/months.) I know I can see the rewards for the hero levels in the game itself, but I haven't found anything for the player levels.

Interesting, I am seriously so tempted to just go sell plasma for $60 to get into this beta. I would play a lot of Raynor if I did get it, but I would go through the whole free rotation and test everyone before buying an additional hero. It seems like thi would be a long process though.
