Instead what we are supposed to be happy with is what feels like side projects, expansions and graphical updates to old games. Then again I play dota a little and used to play lol a little and I'm not particularly attached to either title. If this is fun I'll try it.
Hearthstone is pretty new (at least to me). Titan, if it doesnt get scrapped, is pretty new and innovative. Heroes might be pretty innovative too. Especially since most MOBA's right now are DotA clones with minor variations in the mechanics. D3 and SC2 are mostly what people were asking for and wanting. I think most people wanted SC2 and D3 to be 1:1 clones of SCBW and D2:LoD. Well that sure woulda been better than what we have now. See: Dota 2

The "original" DotA is made by Eul, who is with Valve and Dota 2 now but it was basically sort of the starting point. "All Stars" was like the expansion for the original DotA and it was by Guinsoo, Icefrog, etc. It is very important to note that Dota 2 is currently based of the DotA All Stars which was built from DotA by Eul which was based off of Aeon of Strife mod in SC1. Icefrog deserves 95% of the credit for DotA, though, and here's why: Dota before Icefrog made it (i.e. pre-Allstars) was a mess. It was fun as hell, but it was super imbalanced, buggy, and, in some instances, flat-out ridiculous (some of those heroes...). Icefrog took it and made it into a phenomenon. Eul deserves credit for the original idea, Guinsoo for making it more streamlined, and Icefrog for taking it from "decent niche custom map" to multi-million dollar enterprise.
I agree that Icefrog is the main guy but I also say the others before him were as important too (in their own way or other). Icefrog is definitely the guy that takes something in the process of building and completes it and makes it awesome.
Eul set up the building blocks (the original DotA), Guinsoo adds a lot more (All Stars added new heroes and the main thing is item recipes which was probably the major thing added from Eul's version), and Icefrog polishes (he revamped a ton of heroes and made the abilities they had compliment each other) and completes it and adds more depth and interesting mechanics to it (Icefrog added things like denying, and added a lot of new mechanics with items and stuff and the new items for example helped open up a lot of different play styles for more types of heroes too which added a ton of depth).
Overall, I do agree Icefrog is definitely the guy the took DotA from a WC3 custom mod to this competitive game played by millions. I'm glad Eul is also with Icefrog and working together with Valve on Dota 2 and it's neat to see Guinsoo also have success with LoL too.
Anyway, back to the HotS name. Heroes of the Storm being better than Blizzard All Stars IMO because Blizzard All Stars sounds a bit too generic. Since Blizzard is a type of storm (there is a blizzard storm coming), and storm then can also refer to Blizzard the company itself, Heroes of the storm (the blizzard storm) can still be interpreted as a game featuring all the cast and characters of all Blizzard franchise.
So yeah, Blizzard are geniuses !
Another thing I want to point out - whenever people say "I want to play HotS", they wonder, do you mean SC2 HotS or the Heroes of the Storm HotS? And this confusion will spread ! People will ask this question everyday (which game do you mean?). And people who never heard of SC2 HotS but know Heroes of the Storm HotS, will know SC2 HotS, and vice versa.
Double the advertisement and double the marketing potential!
Blizzard are double geniuses for this!

I would have preferred improvements over the originals, but it would still have been better than what we got.

They're obviously saving that for Blizzcon. And you got to watch an extra carbot animation, wtf are you bitchin about?

Blizzard was never one to "expanding the genre or innovative". What they did was take existing ideas, combine/streamline them and polish till they were satisfied by those.

Wow, a lot of negativity in this thread :-/
Blizzard characters in a MOBA? That sounds pretty sweet, tbh.

If they copy league... with f2P and skins/wards/champs to be purchase...
I hope they add things such as maybe Purchasable swords (FF 7 cloud sword) for like a dollar or 2... or crazy scepters ...
They can't copy league exactly or there would be no point in me switching to this game. Dota 2 is such a bad game IMO... Please make it more like League (reason why it's the best game right now).
Hope the beta isn't like hearthstone as well... Only the streamers/personalities get to play it??

I highly doubt they're going to repeat what they did with Hearthstone's beta.
They are not happy at all with how the streamer give away thing turned out with people selling the keys.
